Indian Army Naib Subedar Pragat Singh was martyred while on duty in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, making the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The 31-year-old soldier, a resident of Ramdass in Amritsar district of Punjab, was serving with 19 Rashtriya Rifles, a unit at the forefront of counter-terrorism operations in the region. Naib Subedar Pragat Singh was inducted into the Indian Army on December 23, 2015, and had since served with dedication, courage, and professionalism.
The mortal remains of the martyr are expected to reach his native village by the evening, where preparations are underway to receive him with full military honours. The last rites will be performed tomorrow in the presence of family members, local residents, and representatives of the Army.
Naib Subedar Pragat Singh is survived by his elderly parents, his wife, and two young children. His martyrdom has cast a pall of grief over his village, with the local community remembering him as a disciplined soldier and a devoted family man.
