The 1 Mechanised Infantry (1 MADRAS) Battalion of the Madras Regiment marked a historic milestone as it celebrated 250 years of distinguished service to the nation, commemorating its sestercentennial anniversary with pride, tradition and renewed commitment to duty.
The landmark occasion was attended by Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, Army Commander Sapta Shakti Command and Colonel of the Madras Regiment, along with Lieutenant General PS Shekhawat, Chief of Staff, Sapta Shakti Command and Colonel of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.

During the ceremony, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh paid rich tribute to the indomitable spirit, valour and supreme sacrifices of the battalion’s bravehearts, whose exemplary service over two and a half centuries has shaped the proud legacy of the unit. He emphasised that the ethos of “Fighting First” continues to define the battalion’s character and operational excellence.
The Army Commander also commended the soldiers for their professional competence and operational achievements, exhorting the present generation to uphold the time-honoured traditions, values and fighting spirit of the regiment and the Indian Army.

As part of the celebrations, a Special Day Cover was released to mark the historic milestone, symbolising the battalion’s enduring legacy and its unwavering service to the nation.
The sestercentennial celebrations reaffirmed 1 Mechanised Infantry’s place as one of the most storied units in the Indian Army, embodying courage, grit and selfless service across generations.
