According to police officials, the tragedy unfolded during a violent road-rage confrontation between occupants of two vehicles. The dispute reportedly began over an overtaking issue, which escalated rapidly into an exchange of gunfire. Brigadier Joshi, an innocent bystander with no connection to the altercation, was struck by a stray bullet and died on the spot. He was a resident of the Rajpur area and had stepped out for his daily morning walk at the time.

Dehradun SP City Pramod Kumar addressed the media and confirmed the details in a self-recorded video statement. He stated that the firing took place following an argument between individuals in two vehicles on the Dehradun-Mussoorie Road. “One person was injured in the incident and taken to the hospital. We have now been informed that he has died during treatment,” the SP noted, clarifying that the victim was Brigadier VK Joshi.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched a district-wide manhunt for the suspects involved in the firing. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity and have recovered a vehicle with broken windows believed to be linked to the incident. The accused reportedly fled the scene after abandoning one of the vehicles. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.

Brigadier VK Joshi served with distinction in the Indian Army before retiring. However, specific details regarding his regiment, years of service, or notable achievements remain unavailable in public records at this stage, as the news broke only hours ago. He is survived by his family, who have not yet issued any public statements.

The incident has highlighted growing concerns over road rage and the reckless use of firearms in urban and semi-urban areas. Local residents expressed shock and demanded swift action to ensure the safety of morning walkers and commuters in the otherwise peaceful Rajpur locality. Senior police officials have assured a thorough probe and have appealed to the public for any information that could aid in identifying the perpetrators.

Further updates on the case, including post-mortem reports and potential arrests, are awaited as the Uttarakhand Police intensify their efforts. This remains a developing story.
