The Indian Army and the Russian Land Forces held high-level military discussions during the 5th Sub-Working Group (Land) meeting under the India Russia Inter Governmental Commission (IRIGC) on military and military-technical cooperation.
According to the Indian Army, the meeting concluded successfully and marked another important milestone in strengthening the longstanding defence partnership between India and Russia.
Both sides held detailed deliberations aimed at enhancing mutual learning, operational synergy, and bilateral military capabilities, while exploring new avenues for cooperation between the two armies.
As part of the engagement, the visiting delegation also visited the Shatrujeet Brigade to examine additional opportunities for defence collaboration and operational exchange.
The discussions come amid expanding India-Russia cooperation in key strategic sectors, including defence manufacturing, space exploration, and military technology.
Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had stated that New Delhi and Moscow were engaged in detailed discussions on joint weapons production, defence industrial cooperation, and collaboration in the space sector.
Officials also highlighted the implementation of a bilateral military logistics agreement between the two countries, which came into effect on January 12, 2026. The pact allows India and Russia to station up to 3,000 troops along with limited naval and air assets in each other’s territory for exercises, training, and cooperation activities.
The agreement, signed in February 2025, is viewed as a major step towards enhancing interoperability and long-term strategic coordination between the armed forces of both nations.
India and Russia continue to maintain deep defence ties spanning decades, with cooperation extending across military hardware, training, technology transfer, and joint production initiatives.
