Mahindra Group has unveiled a new Thar Roxx-based All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) designed specifically for military use, with plans to offer it to the Indian Army for evaluation and trials.
The vehicle, developed as a purpose-built platform for security forces, incorporates multiple structural and functional modifications to enhance its performance in combat and extreme terrain conditions. It is expected to be assessed by the Army before any procurement decisions are made.
Based on the Thar Roxx, the ATV features a ruggedised design including all-terrain tyres, a reinforced roll cage, rock sliders, and underbody protection. The doors and roof have been removed to reduce weight and improve operational flexibility, while metal pipe structures and grab handles enhance mobility and accessibility in field conditions.

A key highlight is its modular design, which includes a 360-degree turret mount compatible with a 7.62 mm medium machine gun, along with mounting points for additional equipment. The vehicle is also equipped with a winch, farm jack, and jerrycan holder, making it suitable for extended operations in remote areas.
The ATV runs on a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 172 hp and 400 Nm of torque, paired with a 4×4 drivetrain and automatic transmission. Its suspension setup and increased ground clearance allow it to navigate challenging terrains such as rocky landscapes and off-road environments with ease.
Additional features include MOLLE storage systems for carrying military gear and reinforced hoist brackets, enabling airdrop capability—an important requirement for rapid deployment.
This development marks another step in Mahindra’s long-standing collaboration with the Indian armed forces, having previously supplied vehicles such as the Armado, Marksman, and Scorpio Classic.
The new ATV reflects a growing emphasis on indigenous defence mobility solutions, aligning with India’s push for self-reliance and modernisation of military equipment.
