The historic 150th Course of the National Defence Academy culminated with a spectacular Passing Out Parade at Khadakwasla, producing a new generation of military leaders led by three outstanding medal winners whose journeys reflect determination, discipline and resilience.
President’s Gold Medal: BCC Rohit Kajla
Battalion Cadet Captain (BCC) Rohit Kajla, an alumnus of Rashtriya Military School Bengaluru and a native of Jhajjar, Haryana, secured the President’s Gold Medal by topping the overall order of merit of the 150th Course.
The son of an Army veteran, Kajla credited his father as his greatest inspiration. While his military school years provided a strong foundation in discipline and military values, he said the NDA transformed him into a leader capable of handling multiple responsibilities under pressure.
Reflecting on his tenure as Battalion Cadet Captain, Kajla said one lesson stood above all others.
“Before becoming a successful senior, I had to become a good senior to my juniors.”
Leading 504 cadets during his appointment helped him grow not only as a leader but also as a person, he added.
President’s Silver Medal: ACA Peeyush Rautela
Academy Cadet Adjutant (ACA) Peeyush Rautela of Mike Squadron was awarded the President’s Silver Medal after securing second position in the overall order of merit. He also topped the Science stream (B.Sc. Chemistry) with an FGPA of 7.97.
An alumnus of Sainik School Ghorakhal, Rautela said his motivation to join the Armed Forces began during his school years. The disciplined environment, dedicated instructors and strong camaraderie among cadets inspired him to pursue a military career.
Notably, he is the first member of his family to join the Armed Forces.
“Whatever I have achieved till now is due to the hard work of my parents, sister and the instructors who helped me reach here,” he said.
Rautela credited his success to the mentorship of teachers, instructors and seniors who guided him throughout his journey.
President’s Bronze Medal: BCC Sahil Sharma
The President’s Bronze Medal was awarded to Battalion Cadet Captain (BCC) Sahil Sharma, a native of Jammu and former student of Rashtriya Military School Chail.
Sharma’s achievement is particularly inspiring because he cleared the NDA entrance examination only on his fifth attempt.
Inspired by his father, an ex-serviceman, Sharma remained determined despite four unsuccessful attempts. He credited his family and mentors for helping him persevere through setbacks.
“Through the four unsuccessful attempts, what kept me going was the unwavering support of my family and the encouragement of my mentors from school,” he said.
Looking back at his NDA journey, Sharma described the past three years as the most challenging, rewarding and enriching period of his life.
A Historic Course
The 150th Course Passing Out Parade was reviewed by General Upendra Dwivedi, himself an NDA alumnus. A total of 353 cadets, including 18 women cadets and 24 cadets from 12 friendly foreign countries, crossed the symbolic Antim Pag, marking the completion of their NDA training.
The stories of Rohit Kajla, Peeyush Rautela and Sahil Sharma showcase the values that define the National Defence Academy—leadership, perseverance, humility and excellence. As they move on to the next stage of military training, they carry forward the legacy of one of the most significant courses in the Academy’s history.
