Security agencies have apprehended a 20-year-old man from the Itarana Military Cantonment area in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on suspicion of espionage activities linked to Pakistan.
The accused, identified as Kundan Bishnoi, a resident of Jodhpur, is alleged to have been in contact with a Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO) and is currently being questioned by multiple intelligence and security agencies.
According to preliminary investigations, Bishnoi allegedly collected and shared information related to Indian Army cantonments and other sensitive locations in exchange for monetary payments. Investigators are examining his communications, financial transactions and possible links to a wider espionage network.
The suspect reportedly gained access to the cantonment area through an acquaintance residing within the military station. He came under suspicion on Sunday night when Army personnel noticed him interacting with a female student inside the cantonment premises. Following initial questioning by military authorities, the matter was referred to Army Intelligence and subsequently to the Military Intelligence Area (MIA) Police Station in Alwar.
Sources indicate that a joint team comprising the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other intelligence agencies is conducting an extensive investigation into the case.
During the examination of the accused’s mobile phone and digital records, investigators reportedly uncovered evidence suggesting that he used social media platforms, including Instagram, to befriend school and college students residing in or around the cantonment area. He allegedly attempted to gain their trust through frequent communication and by sending expensive gifts on special occasions.
Investigators are also probing allegations that the accused transmitted sensitive information during Operation Sindoor, a major Indian military operation conducted in 2025. These claims are currently under investigation, and authorities have not yet released official details regarding the nature or extent of any information allegedly shared.
Officials believe the accused may have received financial compensation in return for gathering and transmitting information, though the exact details are still being verified.
Alwar Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that further disclosures will be made after a comprehensive examination of the evidence.
Security agencies are continuing to scrutinise the suspect’s contacts, digital footprint and possible associates as part of efforts to determine whether the case is linked to a larger espionage network operating in the region.
