The 29th edition of the India–United States Army-to-Army Staff Talks (AAST) was held in Hawaii, reaffirming the growing strategic and defence partnership between the two nations.
The talks were co-chaired by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (Strategy) of the Indian Army, and Lieutenant General Joel Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of United States Army Pacific.

The high-level military dialogue focused on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, enhancing interoperability between the two armies, expanding professional military exchanges and deepening collaboration in support of shared regional and global security interests.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the progress of ongoing military engagements and explored opportunities to further strengthen cooperation through joint training, operational exchanges and capacity-building initiatives.

The talks also highlighted the importance of fostering closer military-to-military ties and improving interoperability to address emerging security challenges in an increasingly complex strategic environment.
Officials from both armies appreciated the growing scope and depth of India–US Army engagements, which have expanded significantly in recent years through exercises, training programmes and professional exchanges.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing defence cooperation and further strengthening the broader India–US strategic partnership based on shared democratic values and mutual security interests.

The Army-to-Army Staff Talks serve as an important institutional mechanism for promoting dialogue, enhancing understanding and identifying new avenues for defence collaboration between the Indian Army and the United States Army.
The successful conclusion of the 29th AAST underscores the continued momentum in India–US defence relations and reflects the commitment of both nations to maintaining a stable, secure and rules-based regional security environment.
