Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command, visited the Western Naval Command (WNC) in Mumbai on June 5, 2026.
Upon arrival at Headquarters Western Naval Command, the Army Commander was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour in recognition of his visit.

Lt Gen Sharma subsequently called on Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Western Naval Command. The two senior military leaders held discussions on key operational and training matters aimed at enhancing inter-service cooperation and strengthening jointness between the Indian Army and the Indian Navy.
During the interaction, the Army Commander was briefed on ongoing operational activities and major initiatives being undertaken by Western Naval Command to maintain maritime security and operational readiness.

At the Maritime Warfare Centre, Lt Gen Sharma received a detailed overview of the command’s operational framework, training methodologies and initiatives designed to enhance maritime combat preparedness.
The Army Commander also visited the Naval Dockyard Mumbai, where he was briefed on the dockyard’s rich heritage, ongoing maintenance and support activities, and its crucial role in sustaining the operational readiness of the Indian Navy’s frontline fleet.

Officials highlighted the dockyard’s contribution to fleet maintenance, repairs, upgrades and indigenous capability development, all of which are essential to ensuring sustained maritime operational effectiveness.
The visit underscored the growing emphasis on jointness and interoperability among the Armed Forces, reflecting the shared commitment of the Army and Navy towards integrated operational planning, enhanced training cooperation and national security.
Lt Gen Sharma’s engagements in Mumbai reinforced the importance of inter-service collaboration as the Armed Forces continue to pursue greater synergy and preparedness for future multi-domain operations.
