The contract was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and marks another significant step in strengthening the Navy’s electronic warfare capabilities through indigenous technology.

The procurement has been undertaken under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category and incorporates a minimum indigenous content of 75 per cent, reflecting the government’s continued emphasis on self-reliance in defence production.

Enhancing Electronic Warfare Capabilities

The ECGNSS Jammers are designed to disrupt the acquisition and tracking of satellite navigation signals by adversary Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers. The systems are equipped with advanced signal spoofing and deceptive jamming capabilities, enabling naval platforms to operate effectively in contested and electronically challenging environments.

According to defence officials, the induction of these systems will significantly improve the operational safety, survivability and mission effectiveness of Indian Navy warships in multi-threat scenarios by enhancing their ability to counter emerging electronic and navigation-based threats.

Strengthening Maritime Security

The acquisition is expected to bolster India’s maritime security architecture by providing naval platforms with advanced tools to deny, disrupt and deceive hostile navigation and positioning systems during operations.

As modern military operations increasingly rely on satellite-based navigation and targeting systems, electronic warfare solutions such as ECGNSS Jammers have become critical force multipliers in safeguarding naval assets and ensuring operational superiority.

Boost to Indigenous Defence Manufacturing

The Ministry of Defence stated that the project aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives by promoting the indigenous development and production of advanced defence technologies.

The contract is expected to support India’s growing defence industrial ecosystem while reducing dependence on imported electronic warfare systems. It also highlights the increasing role of Indian private industry in delivering sophisticated defence solutions for the Armed Forces.

Officials noted that the programme represents another milestone in the government’s efforts to increase indigenous content in defence procurement and accelerate the development of homegrown capabilities across all three services.

The signing of the contract underscores India’s commitment to modernising its armed forces through advanced indigenous technologies while strengthening the country’s long-term defence and maritime security preparedness.
