Surgeon Rear Admiral Samir Kapoor assumed charge as the Command Medical Officer (CMO) of the Western Naval Command on May 29, 2026.
A highly experienced medical officer with a distinguished career spanning more than 35 years, Surg RAdm Kapoor has held several important command, staff and operational appointments across the Armed Forces medical establishment.

An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, he holds an MD in Aerospace Medicine from the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, Bengaluru, and is widely recognised for his expertise in military and aerospace medicine.
During his illustrious career, the Flag Officer has commanded INHS Nivarini and has served in key staff appointments at the Naval Headquarters, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and Andaman and Nicobar Command.
Prior to assuming his new responsibilities at Western Naval Command, he served as Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical) at HQ IDS and subsequently as Command Medical Officer, Southern Naval Command, where he contributed significantly to strengthening medical support systems and healthcare delivery for naval personnel.
As Command Medical Officer, Western Naval Command, Surg RAdm Kapoor will oversee medical services, healthcare infrastructure and operational medical support for one of the Indian Navy’s most critical maritime commands.
His appointment is expected to further enhance medical preparedness, healthcare delivery and operational medical support within the Western Naval Command while contributing to the overall wellbeing of naval personnel and their families.
