Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh arrived in Yerevan on August 16, 2026, for a two-day official visit aimed at further strengthening defence and strategic cooperation between India and Armenia.
Upon his arrival, Singh was received by the Ambassador of India to Armenia and senior representatives of the Armenian Ministry of Defence. During the visit, the Defence Secretary is scheduled to engage with the Armenian leadership to discuss the future roadmap for bilateral defence cooperation.
The visit comes amid growing defence engagement between New Delhi and Yerevan, with both countries exploring avenues to expand cooperation in defence technology, military capability development and strategic engagement.
Singh’s visit builds on a series of high-level interactions between the two countries. Earlier this year, Armenian Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Edvard Asryan visited India, where he held discussions with senior Indian defence officials on strengthening bilateral military cooperation.
During his visit to New Delhi, Lieutenant General Asryan met Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to deliberate on enhancing cooperation in the defence sector. He also held discussions with Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and then Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
The engagements explored potential avenues for closer cooperation, including opportunities for joint ventures and co-development of military hardware.
The Defence Secretary’s current visit is expected to build on these discussions and provide fresh momentum to the India-Armenia defence partnership. The talks in Yerevan will focus on identifying new areas of cooperation and strengthening existing institutional and strategic linkages.
The visit underscores India’s growing engagement with Armenia and New Delhi’s efforts to develop mutually beneficial defence partnerships based on capability development, technology cooperation and long-term strategic interests.
