The Garhwal Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army has launched a major mountaineering expedition to Mount Mana, one of the formidable high-altitude peaks of the Himalayas standing at 7,274 metres.
The Garhwal Regimental Mountaineering Expedition was formally flagged off by Brigadier Vinod Negi, VSM, Centre Commandant, marking the beginning of a challenging journey that will take the soldiers through demanding Himalayan terrain.
The expedition comprises 31 mountaineers drawn from sister battalions of the Garhwal Rifles Regiment. The team will attempt to scale Mount Mana while demonstrating the physical endurance, technical mountaineering skills and teamwork required to operate in extreme high-altitude conditions.
Situated in the Garhwal Himalayas, Mount Mana presents mountaineers with difficult terrain, severe weather and the challenges associated with operating at altitudes exceeding 7,000 metres.
For the participating soldiers, the expedition will serve as a test of courage, endurance, leadership and determination. Such expeditions also provide valuable experience in high-altitude movement, survival and teamwork under demanding conditions.
