Agra, September 11, 2026 — The body of a 35-year-old Indian Air Force airman was recovered from a railway track near Achhnera railway station in Agra district on Thursday morning. Government Railway Police (GRP) officials are examining both accidental fall and suicide as possible explanations.
The deceased has been identified as Nainaram (also reported as Naina Ram), a resident of Khinvsar in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district. He was travelling with his wife, Shobha, and two children on the Jodhpur–Howrah Express towards Prayagraj. Identification was established from an identity card and a railway ticket recovered from his person.
Railway staff and villagers alerted the authorities after the body was found on the tracks near Achhnera, about 26 kilometres from the Agra district headquarters, around 8–9 a.m. GRP and local police teams reached the scene, prepared a panchnama, and took custody of the remains. The body was recovered in two parts, with the head severed from the torso. It has been sent for post-mortem examination. Indian Air Force officials have been informed.
Police account and competing lines of inquiry
According to GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dixit, the train halted at Achhnera around 9 a.m. Police say the airman alighted on the side opposite the main platform, moved towards the track, and, as the train began to move, lay down in its path. “Prima facie it appears to be the case of suicide, but the exact reason for the extreme step is yet to be identified,” Dixit said.
A parallel account, recorded by the Times of India, states that investigators are also examining whether he fell from the moving train. GRP Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Jha confirmed that legal proceedings were under way at the Achhnera GRP outpost. No suicide note has been reported in official briefings. The motive, if the death was intentional, remains unknown.
Family unaware until later
Family members travelling with him were initially unaware of what had occurred. They believed he may have boarded another coach when the train departed. After being informed, they alighted at Tundla station and returned to the scene, where they were questioned by police. IAF colleagues also reached the station after receiving news of the death.
Reports have described the deceased variously as a sergeant and as a corporal. Official confirmation of his exact rank and unit posting had not been issued in public statements available on Friday morning.
Investigators are collecting evidence from the spot, reviewing the circumstances of the halt at Achhnera, and recording statements from family members and railway staff. Authorities have not closed either the accident or the suicide line of inquiry pending the post-mortem report and further inquiry.
