Gurugram Police have arrested a 24-year-old parking attendant in connection with the assault on retired Indian Air Force Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta following a parking dispute. The accused, identified as Deepak Mavi, was arrested within seven hours of the registration of the case, according to police.
The incident occurred at around 8 PM on September 10 when Group Captain Gupta had gone with his family for dinner at a restaurant in a commercial complex in Gurugram. Gupta is a Kargil War veteran who was part of the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 conflict.
After dropping his family near the restaurant, Gupta proceeded to park his vehicle. According to his complaint, he was directed between different parking areas before an altercation broke out with a parking attendant over the vehicle and parking arrangements.
Gupta alleged that during the confrontation, the parking attendant attacked him with an iron rod, striking him on the arm and head. The assault left the retired officer with a serious head injury and a fracture to his left arm/elbow. CCTV footage examined during the preliminary investigation also showed the retired officer being assaulted with an iron rod, police said.
Following the incident, Gupta was taken to hospital for treatment. Police subsequently visited the hospital to record his statement, but the retired officer initially indicated that he was not in a condition to provide a detailed statement and would do so later.
The detailed complaint was subsequently taken up by police and an FIR was registered at Sector 65 Police Station under relevant provisions of law.
