Security agencies in Jammu went on high alert on Sunday after the Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered a Chinese-made rifle telescope from an area close to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) office in the city.
According to officials, the telescopeโbearing Chinese markings and commonly used as an attachment to assault and sniper riflesโwas found lying in a patch of land with dense wild growth between the NIA office and the Jammu and Kashmir Police Security Headquarters. The battalion headquarters of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are also located in close proximity to the spot.
While senior police officers who rushed to the site refrained from making official statements, security sources said the recovery of a Chinese telescope near four vital security installations has raised serious concerns. The development comes amid heightened vigilance following intelligence inputs about possible infiltration attempts under the cover of fog from across the border.
For the past four days, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security forces, have been carrying out joint search and area domination operations from areas near the International Border (IB) to the mountainous stretches along the Line of Control (LoC) to rule out any infiltration.
These operations were launched after intelligence agencies warned of renewed infiltration bids amid a sudden surge in terrorist activity at launch pads across the border, particularly opposite Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Rajouri districts.
Sources recalled that a senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer had stated last month that nearly seven months after suffering significant damage to its terror infrastructure during Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has reactivated around 72 terror launch pads opposite Jammu province.
According to the officer, 12 launch pads have become active in the Sialkot and Zafarwal sectors near the International Border, while around 60 launch pads are operational across the Line of Control, posing a renewed security challenge.
Security agencies continue to maintain heightened surveillance and intensified operations to prevent any attempt to breach Indiaโs borders and target critical installations.
