Multiple explosions were heard across Caracas in the early hours of Saturday, triggering panic among residents as loud blasts echoed through several neighbourhoods of the Venezuelan capital. Reuters witnesses reported that parts of southern Caracas, including areas near a major military installation, experienced a power outage following the explosions.

According to the Associated Press, at least seven explosions were reported, accompanied by the sound of low-flying aircraft over the city. Videos circulating on social media — though unverified — appeared to capture flashes and loud detonations, with people seen running out into the streets in alarm.

Residents in multiple districts said the explosions were audible from long distances, with the blasts lighting up the night sky and briefly disrupting normal life in parts of the capital.

Tensions with the United States in the Background

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Venezuela and the United States, following recent actions by the administration of US President Donald Trump against the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Washington has intensified pressure on Caracas through tougher sanctions, the seizure of oil tankers, and at least one reported airstrike on Venezuelan territory in recent weeks. The US military has also conducted multiple maritime strikes against vessels accused of drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific, operations that US officials say have resulted in more than 100 deaths across dozens of strikes.

President Trump has repeatedly warned of potential land operations in Venezuela, stating that all options remain on the table to force political change in Caracas.

Maduro Rejects US Allegations

President Nicolás Maduro has firmly denied any links between his government and criminal activity. He has accused Washington of attempting to overthrow his administration in order to gain access to Venezuela’s vast oil reserves and rare earth mineral resources.

As of now, neither the Venezuelan government nor the Pentagon has issued an official statement clarifying the cause of the explosions or confirming any military activity related to the incident.

Authorities in Caracas have urged calm as investigations continue into the source of the blasts, while uncertainty and speculation persist amid an already volatile geopolitical environment.
