According to preliminary information, the fire erupted around 10:15 pm at the Survey Yard building located within the premises of the Western Naval Command. Visuals circulating on social media showed flames rising from the affected area, prompting immediate deployment of naval fire tenders.

Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar said multiple fire tenders and water tankers were rushed to the scene. While the Naval Fire Brigade initially handled the situation independently, assistance from the Mumbai Fire Brigade was later accepted to fully contain the blaze.

In an official statement, a naval spokesperson said the fire had broken out in a waste stockyard area of the dockyard and was controlled through prompt action by naval firefighting teams. “No casualty has been reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated,” the statement added.

The incident once again draws attention to past fire-related accidents at the Mumbai Naval Dockyard. Over the years, several such incidents have occurred, including the 2013 INS Sindhurakshak submarine explosion and the 2024 fire aboard INS Brahmaputra, underscoring the critical importance of fire safety in naval installations.
