The Indian Army has confirmed the supreme sacrifice of Sepoy Akshit Sharma of the 9 Punjab Regiment, who lost his life on March 10, 2026, during a training exercise in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps and all ranks paid solemn homage to the brave soldier, honouring his dedication and service to the nation.
According to earlier reports, Sepoy Sharma went missing during a military exercise when he reportedly slipped and fell into the Munawar Tawi river while participating in routine training activities. Fellow soldiers present at the site immediately initiated rescue attempts, but the strong currents and difficult terrain prevented them from recovering him at the time.
Following the incident, the Indian Army launched a massive search and rescue operation in the river and surrounding areas. Teams of soldiers and local rescue personnel conducted extensive efforts despite challenging water conditions and rugged terrain.
Sepoy Akshit Sharma had been serving in the Indian Army for approximately seven years and was part of the highly respected 9 Punjab Regiment, known for its long tradition of courage and battlefield excellence.
In an official tribute, the White Knight Corps expressed deep condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family.
“In this hour of profound grief, the White Knight Corps stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and prays for strength and courage to the loved ones of the Braveheart,” the formation stated.
The Indian Army community has come together to remember Sepoy Sharma’s commitment and sacrifice. His service and dedication to duty reflect the spirit of the soldiers who continue to safeguard the nation under the most demanding conditions.
Further details regarding the incident and final rites are expected to be shared by authorities in due course.
