The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth ₹975 crore with Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics India Private Limited for the procurement of TRAWL Assembly systems for T-72 and T-90 tanks.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
Enhancing Minefield Breaching Capability
The TRAWL system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, is a critical combat engineering equipment designed to:
- Create vehicle-safe lanes through minefields
- Neutralise anti-tank mines with magnetic proximity fuses
- Improve mobility of armoured formations in combat zones
Boost to Indian Army’s Operational Effectiveness
The induction of TRAWL assemblies will significantly enhance the combat effectiveness and survivability of armoured units of the Indian Army, particularly during offensive operations in minefield-heavy environments.
Push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat
The procurement falls under the ‘Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)’ category, reinforcing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production.
Employment and Industrial Growth
The project is expected to:
- Generate direct and indirect employment
- Boost participation of MSMEs in defence manufacturing
- Strengthen India’s indigenous defence industrial ecosystem
