In its statement, the Director General of the BSF and personnel across all ranks conveyed their condolences, stating, “DG BSF & All Ranks express heartfelt condolences on demise of Shri B N Sharma, IG (Retd). Prahari Parivar stands firm with his family in these trying times.” The message, accompanied by hashtags such as #eShraddhanjali and #JaiHind, reflected the deep sense of loss within the force.

Bhola Nath Sharma joined the BSF in 1977 as an Assistant Commandant in the ACDE batch and went on to build a distinguished career in border management and internal security. Over the years, he served in multiple operational theatres across the country, gaining extensive experience along India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Among his notable assignments was his tenure as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of Mizoram from 1982 to 1987, a role that highlighted his professionalism and trustworthiness.

Even after retirement, Sharma remained actively engaged in public discourse on security issues. He frequently shared his views on matters such as the extension of BSF jurisdiction for improved coordination in internal security, the evolving challenges in Punjab, and the importance of professional policing. He also advocated for the mental well-being of security personnel, often highlighting the need for balanced postings to reduce stress among forces deployed in high-pressure environments.

Through interviews, discussions, and his presence on social media, Sharma continued to contribute to conversations on border management and national security. His insights, drawn from decades of field experience, earned him respect among both serving personnel and the wider strategic community.

Following the announcement of his passing, tributes poured in from former colleagues, veterans, and citizens across the country. Many remembered him as a dignified officer, a brave leader, and a committed patriot. Messages described him as a “noble and dignified soul” whose dedication to the nation would continue to inspire future generations.

The BSF, often referred to as the “Prahari Parivar,” has assured full support to his bereaved family during this difficult time. His passing marks the loss of a seasoned officer who played a vital role in safeguarding India’s borders and contributing to the nation’s security framework.

Details regarding the cause of his death and funeral arrangements have not been publicly disclosed so far.

Shri B.N. Sharma’s life and service stand as a testament to the ethos of the BSF — “Duty Unto Death.” His legacy of dedication, integrity, and patriotism will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
