The Indian Navy celebrated a historic sporting achievement after Petty Officer Gurindervir Singh became the fastest Indian ever in the men’s 100m sprint at the 29th National Federation Cup Athletics Championships in Ranchi.
Gurindervir Singh clocked a sensational 10.09 seconds at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium, becoming the first Indian athlete to run the 100m in under 10.1 seconds and setting a new national record.
Hailing the achievement, the Indian Navy posted, “The Fastest Man in India Wears Whites,” congratulating the naval athlete for his historic performance and qualification for the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The Navy praised Gurindervir’s spirit, speed, and dedication, calling his performance a proud moment for the service and Indian athletics.
Speaking after the race, Gurindervir expressed happiness over his achievement and credited mental toughness as a key factor behind his performance.
The Indian Navy athlete had already stunned the field during the semifinals by breaking the national record with a timing of 10.17 seconds. Shortly after, fellow sprinter Animesh Kujur improved the record to 10.15 seconds in the next semifinal.
However, Gurindervir had the final word in the championship final, producing the historic 10.09-second run to reclaim the national record in emphatic fashion.
Animesh Kujur finished second in the final, while Pranav Gurav secured third place.
The achievement marks a major milestone for Indian athletics and further highlights the growing contribution of Armed Forces athletes in international-level sports and competitive excellence.
