The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army have successfully carried out a first-of-its-kind precise para-drop operation of a critical trauma care cube in a high-altitude area at nearly 15,000 feet.
The operation marked a significant milestone in India’s indigenous humanitarian assistance and rapid medical response capabilities under Project BHISHM.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the trauma care cubes were indigenously developed under Project BHISHM — Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri — aimed at delivering life-saving medical support to remote and disaster-affected regions.
The mission was conducted in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening India’s humanitarian aid and disaster relief capabilities through advanced indigenous solutions.
During the operation, the IAF deployed its advanced tactical transport aircraft, the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules, to airlift and accurately para-drop the critical healthcare unit in difficult high-altitude terrain.
The successful demonstration highlighted the capability of the Indian Armed Forces to rapidly deliver emergency medical infrastructure and critical supplies to inaccessible regions during combat situations, natural disasters, or humanitarian crises.
Project BHISHM is expected to significantly enhance India’s preparedness for emergency response operations while also contributing to the country’s broader push towards indigenous defence and healthcare innovation under the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
