Cadet Quartermaster Sergeant (CQMS) Mannela Nithin of Golf Squadron emerged as the top performer in the B.Tech stream at the Convocation Ceremony of the historic 150th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA), securing first position with a CGPA of 8.18 in Applied Electronics and Communication Engineering.
For his outstanding academic achievement, CQMS Nithin was awarded the prestigious Commandant’s Silver Medal and the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) Trophy during the convocation ceremony held at Khadakwasla on May 29. The awards were presented by the Chief Guest, Dr Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd.), former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
Hailing from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Nithin comes from a humble family background. His father works as a supervisor in a private firm, while his mother is a homemaker. He completed his schooling from Class VI to XII at Sainik School Korukonda, where he emerged as the school topper in Class XII with an impressive 97 per cent marks.
Known for his academic consistency, Nithin maintained excellent performance throughout all six terms at the NDA, earning recognition among both faculty and fellow cadets for his dedication and discipline.
Speaking after receiving the award, Nithin said the honour was one of the most memorable moments of his life.
“I have been allotted the Navy service at NDA. The officers and teachers at school have always been my inspiration. I feel very proud of getting the trophy and award from Dr Kiran Bedi. It is a moment that I will remember throughout my life,” he said.
Nithin credited his success to the guidance and mentorship of his teachers and officers at Sainik School Korukonda, who inspired him to pursue excellence and a career in the Armed Forces.
Having been allotted the Indian Navy, he is now set to continue his journey towards becoming a naval officer. His achievement reflects the NDA’s enduring commitment to developing academically accomplished, technologically proficient and professionally competent military leaders.
The convocation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the graduating cadets of the NDA’s 150th Course, with 236 cadets receiving degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University before progressing towards their commissioning into the Armed Forces.
