Major General J Muthukrishnan assumed the appointment of Major General (Medical), Headquarters South-Western Command on June 1, 2026, marking a significant addition to the senior leadership of the Armed Forces Medical Services.
An alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Maj Gen Muthukrishnan is a distinguished Endocrinologist with extensive experience in military healthcare, medical education and hospital administration.
Throughout his illustrious career, the General Officer has held several important appointments, including Head of Department (Internal Medicine) at AFMC Pune and Colonel (Medical) at Headquarters Strategic Forces Command, where he contributed significantly to medical support and healthcare management within critical operational environments.
He also played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to the planning and execution of medical management efforts at Base Hospital Delhi Cantonment, one of the Armed Forces’ key healthcare institutions.
Prior to assuming his new appointment, Maj Gen Muthukrishnan served as the Commandant of Military Hospital Pathankot, where he was instrumental in enhancing patient care, medical preparedness and healthcare delivery.
On the occasion of his assumption of charge, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), extended her warm congratulations and best wishes to the General Officer for a successful tenure in his new assignment.
As MG (Medical), HQ South-Western Command, Maj Gen Muthukrishnan will be responsible for overseeing medical services, operational healthcare support, medical preparedness and the welfare of personnel across the Command.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen the medical capabilities of the South Western Command while continuing the Armed Forces Medical Services’ commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare and operational medical support to the nation’s soldiers and their families.
