8 Things You Should Know About Odd Even Rule In Delhi

Paris summit has led several nations to bring down the pollution level in the future by bringing some changes in current industrialization and energy usage frame. INDC (Intended Nationally Determined Contribution) committed by India before the Paris summit was a blueprint of what India is playing to contribute in global mission to deter pollution and shielding ongoing nature’s deterioration. In India, the major work to be done is in metro cities and mostly in Delhi. Previously the circulation of CNG fuelled vehicles and implementation of the Bharat Stage IV was a step to curb pollution. With the increase in pollution level, Delhi government gave the green signal to Delhi’s new pattern of odd even pattern to bring the pollution level down. Now here we are having some key points of this rule that SSB aspirants need to know

  1. It is a trail of this rule – The new odd, even rule began in Delhi from the commencement of the New Year on a trial basis for 15 days. According to the rule, odd numbered cars will run on odd dates and even numbered cars will run on even dates.
  2. Relaxations in timing – The rule will be active between 8 am to 8 pm and Sundays are exempted from this rule.
  3. Legal exemption – 25 categories have been exempted from this rule which include women accompanied with children of age below 12 years, two-wheelers, CNG vehicles, VIP’s vehicles and convoys, medical vehicles in emergencies. The Delhi high court has shown its concern over the exemption of women and two-wheeler from the rule. Delhi CM and legislator are not exempted from the rule.ODD EVEN rule
  4. Exceptions by WILL – US embassy and Justice Thakur were exempted from this rule. But they showed interest in following the rule and told that they will follow it.
  5. Fine– Rule breaker has to pay a fine of Rs. 2000. Parking may be denied for violators and their vehicles may be towed.
  6. Support framework – Delhi government has started a website and helplines for people if they encounter any problem with odd even rule. The helpline is 011-42400400 and 011- 41400400 and the website is ‘odd-even.com’.
  7. Kids to compromise studies for 15 days – Schools were instructed to stay closed till 15 January so that school buses can be used for public transport.
  8. Additional support to commuters – Delhi government has arranged 3000 more public vehicles on the roads to provide sufficient transport service to public. Delhi metro has also decided to increase its service to manage the burden of commuters.
