Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Eastern Naval Command, accompanied by Mrs Priya Bhalla, President of the Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA), Eastern Region, visited INS Kattabomman to review the operational preparedness of the strategically important naval establishment and inaugurate several infrastructure and welfare initiatives.
During the visit, Vice Admiral Bhalla conducted a comprehensive review of the operational readiness of the base, assessing its capability to support the Indian Navy’s communication and strategic missions. He also evaluated the progress of ongoing infrastructure development projects and inspected newly created amenities aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and improving the quality of life for naval personnel.
The visit highlighted the Indian Navy’s continued emphasis on modernising its shore establishments through the development of advanced infrastructure while ensuring that operational capabilities remain aligned with evolving maritime security requirements.
As part of the programme, the FOC-in-C unveiled a statue of Veerapandiya Kattabomman, the legendary 18th-century freedom fighter and chieftain renowned for his courageous resistance against British rule. The unveiling paid tribute to his enduring legacy of valour, patriotism and sacrifice, values that continue to inspire generations of Indians, including those serving in the Armed Forces.
Vice Admiral Bhalla also inaugurated a new Integrated Office Complex, which is expected to streamline administrative functions, improve coordination and enhance operational efficiency within the naval establishment. The modern facility reflects the Navy’s ongoing efforts to create robust infrastructure that supports both operational and administrative excellence.
In a parallel initiative focused on family welfare, Mrs Priya Bhalla inaugurated the Sunbeam Crèche, a dedicated childcare facility designed to support the families of naval personnel. The new crèche reinforces the Indian Navy’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for service families by providing quality childcare facilities that contribute to the well-being of children and enable serving personnel to carry out their duties with greater peace of mind.
The visit also included a review of various welfare initiatives undertaken for naval personnel and their families, highlighting the Navy’s holistic approach towards balancing operational excellence with the welfare of its human resources.
The visit by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, reaffirmed the Indian Navy’s focus on maintaining high operational readiness while simultaneously investing in modern infrastructure and family welfare.
