Kochi, July 25, 2026: The Indian Navy marked another significant milestone in the training of its aviation personnel as the Ceremonial Divisions for the 103rd Naval Air Operations Course were held on 25 July 2026 at the Naval Air Operations School (NAO School).
The ceremony celebrated the successful graduation of four officers of the Indian Navy and one officer of the Indian Coast Guard, who completed the specialised course and were commissioned as Air Operations Officers, a vital cadre responsible for planning, coordinating and managing naval aviation operations.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the coveted ‘Wings’, symbolising the successful completion of the demanding course and the officers’ readiness to undertake operational responsibilities in the field of naval air operations. The Wings were awarded by Commodore P.G. Thomas, Commodore (Training), Southern Naval Command, in recognition of the officers’ achievement.
The Naval Air Operations Course equips officers with specialised knowledge and practical skills required to manage complex air operations involving naval aircraft and helicopters. Air Operations Officers play a crucial role in mission planning, airspace management, flight coordination, surveillance, search and rescue operations, and ensuring seamless integration between aviation assets and maritime forces during both peacetime and operational deployments.
The inclusion of an officer from the Indian Coast Guard in the course also reflects the growing emphasis on joint training and interoperability between India’s maritime security forces. Such collaborative training enhances coordination during maritime surveillance, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions, search and rescue operations, and coastal security tasks.
Congratulating the graduating officers, Commodore P.G. Thomas commended their dedication, professionalism and perseverance throughout the rigorous training programme. He encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of operational excellence and continue contributing towards strengthening India’s maritime aviation capabilities.
