Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Shri Praveen Kumar, IPS, formally conferred the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) on three senior officers during a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in New Delhi on August 3, 2026.
The officers promoted to the rank of DIG are Shri Satish Kumar Shashtri, Shri Amar Bir Singh and Shri Pramendra Kumar. All three officers were serving in the rank of Commandant before receiving their new rank insignia.
During the formal rank-pinning ceremony, the Director General adorned the newly promoted officers with the insignia of Deputy Inspector General. Senior BSF officers and family members of the promoted personnel were present to witness the occasion.
The ceremony marked an important milestone in the professional careers of the three officers, who will now take on greater leadership, administrative and operational responsibilities within the Border Security Force.
Promotion to the rank of DIG places an officer in a senior command position, involving the supervision of major formations, coordination of operational deployments and implementation of organisational policies. Officers holding the rank may also be entrusted with responsibilities at sector headquarters, training establishments, specialised units or the Force Headquarters, depending on their appointments.
The presence of family members at the ceremony added a personal dimension to the occasion, recognising the support they provide throughout the demanding careers of personnel serving in the force.
DG BSF Shri Praveen Kumar and personnel across all ranks congratulated Shri Satish Kumar Shashtri, Shri Amar Bir Singh and Shri Pramendra Kumar on their promotion. The force also conveyed its best wishes to the officers for continued success as they assume their new appointments and responsibilities.
The promotions reflect the BSF’s established leadership progression system and acknowledge the officers’ experience, service and readiness to shoulder higher command responsibilities.
The newly promoted DIGs are expected to contribute to the force’s operational preparedness, personnel management and effective execution of duties while upholding the professional standards and values of the Border Security Force.
