The whole experience of being in love is delightful; however it gets even better when you are in love with a soldier! Fauji relationships arenโt the regular type and being in a relationship with a man in uniform isnโt easy too, but for what itโs worth, it is completely life changing. The feeling of loving and to be loved, by a person who constantly faces danger, every time, every day for the safety of the people of our country is something that words canโt describe.
Being a fauji girlfriend is a different experience altogether, having said that following are some of the things that all the fauji girlfriends can relate to:
- Youโve become so familiar with the Army jargons that they are now a part of your vocabulary. When you use these โnot so commonโ and โpeculiarโ words, you get quite a look from your civilian friends.
- Part of the reason that you are this strong woman today is because of n number of times that heโs cancelled his leave (because he has to), however, the heartbreaks donโt matter when you finally get to see and meet him.
- When heโs posted away, you phone becomes your best friend. You never (never, ever) let it go out of your sight. You even wake up at 3am just to have a two minutes conversation with him and in a weird way, it makes your day.
- Youโve become extremely patient in life. Waiting comes naturally to you, all thanks to the months and months of planning your leaves together and waiting for the execution of your plans ( that youโve so joyfully made!) to happen.
- Being addressed as maโam is now very common for you, since thatโs what his friends and known people call you.
- You have a souvenir/ gift from each place of his posting.
- Every piece of news about the Armed Forces and especially about the area in which heโs posted grabs your attention right away.
- You spend most of your ideal time counting Days Left for Him to Come Home and making an endless list of plans and things to do when heโs around ( most of which just involves cuddling).
- When heโs on a course (young officerโs course, etc.) you become his source of motivation and push him to perform his best.
- You understand the sacrifices and the hardships of the Army life so much better now and you couldnโt be any more proud of him.
- Your entire schedule and priorities change when heโs on leave.
- The exchange of letters is what keeps the spark alive in your long distance relationship.
- Even though the two of you are miles apart, he is always the first one to know of your every sadness and every joy. His love and support are what makes it all worthwhile.
- Movies like LOC Kargil, Lakshya, Pukaar, Border, Yahaan, and Holiday are your all-time favourites. Songs from these movies fill your heart with so much love and sadness.
- The number of times youโve met each other is probably far less than the months that youโve together for.
- You have spent days without hearing his voice and months without meeting him, but all this only strengthens your love and pride for him.
- When heโs back, you both spend most of your time making as many memories as possible (clicking pictures, etc.) and these become your saving grace when you both are apart.
- You are super-duper proud of your man in uniform. Irrespective of all the hard times that you face while being away from him and being in this unusual long distance relationship, you wouldnโt have it any other way and for what itโs worth, youโd do it all over again.
ย
P.S. โ My utmost regards to all the fauji girlfriends out there. You girls are amazing and Iโm sure your soldier loves you more than anything else. Hang in there ladies!
Jai Hind!
