The eighth edition of Exercise Lamitye 2018, is being held at Mahe Island is Seychelles archipelago. Exercise Lamitye is a military exercise between India and Seychelles. Here are 11 points to know about this exercise:

  1. Since 2001 India and Seychelles have been conducting joint military drill ‘Exercise Lamitye’.
  2. It is a bilateral military exercise between Indian Army and Seychelles People’s Defence Force.
  3. “Lamitye” means friendship in Creole, the Seychelles language.
  4. It is conducted biennially with the aim of enhancing military cooperation and interoperability between the two countries.
  5. The 2018 edition is being held at Mahe Island in Seychelles archipelago which is one of most significant and busiest sea transport routes of the world in the Indian Ocean.

  6. The day commenced with both the contingents undergoing physical training followed by lecture and demonstration on the raid by Indian Army Contingent at Seychelles Defence Academy, lle Perseverance Mahe Seychelles.

  7. The Indian contingent shared expertise on techniques of House Clearing, Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) & Small Team Concept in Counter Terrorist environment (CT) to enhance effectiveness.Lamitye 2
  8. Exercise Lamitye is conducted biennially between Indian and Seychelles with aim of enhancing military cooperation and interoperability.
  9. The aim of this year’s Lamitye is to fight insurgency, terrorism and piracy threats in the IOR.
  10. A team comprising of 4 officers, 5 JCOs and 36 ORs from arms and services are representing India in this exercise in Seychelles.
