Indian Navy’s Swift Response to Maritime Incident in Gulf of Aden

In a display of remarkable efficiency and swift action, the Indian Navyโ€™s INS Kolkata responded to a distress call from the Barbados-flagged bulk carrier MV True Confidence after it was hit by a drone or missile in the Gulf of Aden.

The incident, which occurred on March 6th, approximately 54 nautical miles southwest of Aden, resulted in a fire aboard the vessel and critical injuries to the crew, necessitating an urgent evacuation.

The MV True Confidence found itself in perilous waters when it came under attack, prompting the crew to send out a distress signal.

The Indian Navyโ€™s response was immediate and decisive, with INS Kolkata, already deployed for Maritime Security Operations, swiftly moving into action. Arriving at the location at 16:45 hours, the naval vessel wasted no time in initiating rescue operations.

Despite the challenging circumstances, INS Kolkata successfully rescued all 21 crew members of the stricken vessel, including one Indian national. Utilizing integral helicopters and boats, the naval personnel conducted a meticulous operation, ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on board.

Additionally, critical medical aid was promptly provided to the injured crew members, demonstrating the Indian Navyโ€™s commitment to humanitarian assistance in times of crisis.

Following the rescue operation, the crew of the MV True Confidence was evacuated to Djibouti, marking the successful conclusion of a mission characterized by professionalism, efficiency, and a commitment to maritime safety.
