Indian Navy Commissions First MH-60R Seahawk Squadron to Boost Maritime Security

The commissioning of INAS 334 with the state-of-the-art MH-60R helicopters underscores the Indian Navy's ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet and expand its maritime capabilities.

The Indian Navy has officially commissioned its first squadron of MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, designated as INAS 334, at INS Garuda, part of the Southern Naval Command (SNC) in Kochi. This significant addition to the Indian Navy’s aerial fleet is aimed at bolstering its operational capabilities, particularly in terms of maritime security.

The MH-60R Seahawk, known for its flexibility, reach, and versatility, represents a substantial upgrade in the Indian Navy’s ability to perform a wide range of missions. These include anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, naval special warfare insertion, search and rescue, and communications relay, among other tasks.

The newly inducted squadron, aptly named “The Romeos” after the helicopter’s designation, is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the Navy’s mission-based deployment and combat readiness.
