In a significant stride towards bolstering indigenous maritime capabilities, the 25T Bollard Pull (BP) Tug, christened “Baljeet,” was ceremoniously launched on March 10, 2024, at M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd, located in Bharuch, Gujarat.

The launch ceremony, presided over by Commodore Rajat Nagar, WPS (Mbi), heralded the entry of “Baljeet” as a proud flag bearer of the “Make in India” initiative championed by the Government of India.

The construction and delivery of three 25T BP Tugs mark a strategic collaboration between the Indian Navy and M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd, an MSME, in alignment with the overarching vision of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.

Under the contractual agreement, these cutting-edge Tugs are being meticulously crafted under the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), symbolizing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance and innovation in the maritime sector.

The advent of these Tugs holds profound implications for enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy. With their formidable 25T Bollard Pull capacity, the Tugs are poised to play a pivotal role in supporting the operational commitments of the Navy.

Specifically, they will provide invaluable assistance to naval ships and submarines during berthing and un-berthing maneuvers, as well as navigating through confined waters with precision and efficiency.

Moreover, the Tugs are equipped with advanced firefighting capabilities, enabling them to swiftly respond to emergencies and provide afloat firefighting assistance to ships alongside, whether at the anchorage or in port.

Additionally, they boast the capability to conduct limited Search and Rescue Operations, further augmenting the Navy’s ability to ensure maritime safety and security in the region.

The launch of “Baljeet” and her sister Tugs underscores the Indian Navy’s unwavering commitment to fostering indigenous manufacturing and technological innovation.

By harnessing the expertise of domestic shipyards and adhering to stringent quality standards, the Navy is not only fortifying its operational prowess but also nurturing a robust ecosystem of maritime defense production within the country.

As “Baljeet” takes to the waters, she symbolizes the spirit of resilience, self-reliance, and progress that defines India’s maritime aspirations. Her maiden voyage marks a proud moment in the journey towards a stronger, more self-sufficient maritime domain, where innovation and enterprise converge to propel the nation towards new horizons of success and security.
