In a testament to medical excellence and the spirit of giving, the transplant team at Command Hospital Chandimandir executed a remarkable midnight operation, harvesting vital organs from a deceased veteran Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army. This noble act has provided a new lease of life to several terminally ill patients.

In a meticulously coordinated effort, the team harvested the liver, kidneys, and corneas from the Next of Kin (NOK) of the veteran JCO, who had expressed the wish to donate his organs. The operation, performed during the night, showcased the dedication and skill of the medical professionals involved.

Following the successful organ harvest, the Indian Air Force (IAF) promptly airlifted the organs to the Army Hospital Research and Referral (R&R) in Delhi. There, the organs were successfully implanted in patients who were in dire need of transplants, offering them a new hope for life.

This act of organ donation by the veteran JCO, even in his hour of grief, is a powerful reminder of the altruism and service that defines the ethos of the Indian Armed Forces. It underscores the profound impact of organ donation, transforming moments of sorrow into opportunities for new beginnings.

Lt Gen Manoj Kumar, Commandant of Command Hospital Chandimandir, praised the transplant team and acknowledged the immense contribution of the veteran JCO and his family.

The successful transplant operation also received accolades from senior military officials and the medical community. The collaborative efforts between the Command Hospital Chandimandir, the IAF, and Army Hospital R&R exemplify the seamless coordination and commitment to saving lives.

Dr. Rajesh Mehta, head of the transplant team, expressed his gratitude to the JCOโ€™s family for their courageous decision. โ€œOrgan donation is a powerful legacy that transcends life and death. The familyโ€™s decision in such a difficult time is incredibly generous and will have a lasting impact on the recipientsโ€™ lives. We are honored to have been part of this life-saving mission,โ€ he stated.
