The Indian Army has launched ‘Operation SHIVA 2025’ to ensure the secure and smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath Yatra, working in close coordination with the Civil Administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The initiative underscores the Army’s commitment to safeguarding thousands of pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey through the challenging terrains of Jammu and Kashmir.

Designed to establish a comprehensive security framework, Operation SHIVA 2025 incorporates dynamic counter-terrorism strategies, prophylactic deployment, and corridor protection. These measures are especially critical in the wake of increased threats from Pakistan-backed terrorist groups following the recent Operation Sindoor. The protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) implemented this year will serve as long-term security guidelines for future yatras.

Over 8,500 troops have been deployed along the Northern and Southern Yatra routes, supported by an array of operational and technological assets. These include more than 50 Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) and electronic warfare systems to neutralise drone threats, regular UAV surveillance missions, and real-time monitoring of the Holy Cave and surrounding tracks.

Infrastructure and disaster preparedness have also been prioritized. The Army has deployed engineer task forces for track widening, bridge construction, and emergency response readiness. Medical support includes the presence of more than 150 doctors and staff, two Advanced Dressing Stations, nine Medical Aid Posts, a 100-bed hospital, and 26 oxygen booths supported by 2,00,000 litres of oxygen.

The Army has established Signal Companies for uninterrupted communication, EME detachments for technical maintenance, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, and Quick Reaction Teams. Emergency rations for 25,000 people, tent cities, water stations, bulldozers, and excavators have also been positioned for immediate use. Indian Army helicopters are on standby for rapid evacuation and crisis response.

To maintain constant situational awareness, convoy movements from Jammu to the Holy Cave are being tracked in real time using high-resolution PTZ cameras and drone feeds. This live monitoring system enables quick threat identification and rapid deployment of forces, ensuring continuous coordination among all security and support agencies.

Operation SHIVA 2025 highlights the Indian Army’s proactive and technology-driven approach to internal security and disaster management. With its seamless execution, the operation aims to provide a safe, uninterrupted, and spiritually enriching pilgrimage experience to all Amarnath Yatra devotees.
