Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, recently visited the Konark Corps (Desert Corps) in Jodhpur to assess its operational preparedness along India’s western desert sectors.
During the visit, Lt Gen Seth received a detailed briefing on the modernization initiatives undertaken to make the Desert Corps more agile, self-reliant, and technologically advanced. The Army Commander also reviewed programs aimed at improving the quality of life for troops stationed at the Jodhpur Military Station.

Commending the corps for its readiness, Lt Gen Seth emphasized lessons from Operation Sindoor, which tested adaptive tactics against hybrid threats including drones and cyber attacks. He urged all ranks to maintain mission readiness and resilience in facing evolving security challenges across Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The visit also included a ceremonial recognition of distinguished personnel for their professionalism and dedication, reinforcing the corps’ legacy of operational excellence. Established in 1987 during Operation Trident, the Konark Corps derives its insignia from the Konark Sun Temple, symbolizing strategic reach and resilience in sun-scorched terrains.

The Southern Command continues to focus on innovation and technology adoption, ensuring India’s desert borders remain secure and the Desert Corps remains a capable, modern force
