Lt Gen Sadhna Saxena Nair, the trailblazing first woman Director General Medical Services (Army), made a significant visit to the Army Medical Corps (AMC) Centre & College on September 16, 2025. Marking a historic milestone since assuming her role on August 1, 2024, her visit underscored a transformative era of gender diversity in India’s military leadership.
During the visit, Lt Gen Nair paid homage at the AMC War Memorial ‘Shraddhanjali’ and reviewed a Guard of Honour, symbolizing respect for the corps’ legacy. Addressing a Sainik Sammelan, she inspired medical troops to uphold the motto “Sarve Santu Niramaya” (Let all be healthy), a principle rooted in ancient Sanskrit texts like the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.
Research from a 2019 study in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine supports her approach, highlighting how traditional wellness practices enhance troop resilience, blending cultural heritage with modern military health strategies.
A key highlight was the release of the 6th edition of the ‘Charak’ journal, honoring the 2nd-century physician Charaka whose work shaped global medicine. This initiative reflects the AMC’s dedication to advancing medical knowledge, especially amid ongoing border tensions, following recent India-Pakistan ceasefire discussions led by DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai in May 2025. Lt Gen Nair also engaged with MOBC and BNOC officers, motivating them to maintain operational readiness and dedication to national service.
