The Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force, conducted an Orientation Programme for newly posted officers at the Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles (DGAR), Laitkor, Shillong. The event aimed to familiarize the officers with the Force’s organizational structure, ethos, operational responsibilities, and welfare initiatives.
The programme was graced by Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles, who interacted with the newly inducted officers and shared his strategic vision for the Force. In his address, Lt Gen Lakhera emphasized the importance of professionalism, leadership, and commitment to the nation’s security, urging the officers to uphold the rich traditions, discipline, and values that define the “Sentinels of the North East.”

Through interactive sessions and briefings, the officers were oriented on Assam Rifles’ multifaceted roles — from counter-insurgency and border management to humanitarian assistance and community development across the North-Eastern region.

The initiative reflected the Force’s continuous efforts to ensure that newly posted officers seamlessly integrate into their roles with a clear understanding of operational dynamics and welfare mechanisms, thereby enhancing overall effectiveness and esprit de corps.
