Reflecting India’s strategic vision of JAI – Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation, the Southern Command conducted an impressive joint air defence demonstration titled Exercise Sudarshan Vayu Sanchar as part of Exercise Trishul in the Desert Sector. The exercise underscored how jointness across the Army, Navy, and Air Force is redefining the nation’s air defence architecture through integration, technology, and precision.
The large-scale exercise brought together Army Air Defence units, Indian Air Force elements, and naval surveillance components under a unified command framework. The forces operated within a single, integrated control and reporting network, ensuring real-time threat detection, identification, and engagement. This joint network validated concepts of airspace management, inter-service coordination, and multi-domain command integration — critical pillars in achieving layered and resilient air defence.
In an era of rapidly evolving aerial threats, Exercise Sudarshan Vayu Sanchar demonstrated how fusion of sensor data, AI-enabled tracking, and automated decision loops enhance situational awareness and response times. Indigenous radar systems, AI-driven algorithms, and encrypted communication links showcased India’s technological self-reliance — a hallmark of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The integration of these indigenous platforms with existing military infrastructure highlighted the transition toward network-centric air defence, emphasizing speed, precision, and operational adaptability.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, commended the professionalism and synergy of all participating formations. He emphasized that true air defence superiority stems not just from advanced weapon systems but from integration, communication, and shared operational awareness.
Through this exercise, the Southern Command effectively translated the vision of JAI from concept to combat, reinforcing Jointness through seamless inter-service coordination, Atmanirbharta through indigenous systems, and Innovation through adaptive, technology-driven operational design.
The demonstration reaffirmed India’s commitment to maintaining a secure, synchronized, and sovereign airspace, strengthening national defence preparedness for the challenges of modern warfare.
