My CPSS Test And PABT Experience

0
CPSS test experience

Hello, my name is Ajay Sureka. Previously I have shared my SSB experience (Recommended For Indian Coast Guard (Pilot) In My 3rd Attempt) . Today, I am going to share my CPSS/PABT and medical experience with u. For all those pilot aspirant who are waiting for there AFSB this might help u out. I received an email stating to report for CPSS/PABT on 1 March 2016 (0645 hrs) at AFSB Mysore. Accordingly, I started preparing. Firstly, I tried to figure out the difference between CPSS/PABT but could not figure out exactly. Then I started reading about basic fight instruments and referred Youtube to check out the graphical description of every instrument. There are basically 6 instruments that one needs to look at 1)Air Speed indicator 2) Attitude Indicator 3) Altimeter 4) Turn Indicator 5) Heading Indicator 6) Vertical Speed Indicator you can go through the link to check out how exactly it looks. It’s better if u go through this before so that when u are actually attending it’s more like a revision for u.

CPSS:

CPSS is the computerized part of PABT and each one of u will be provided a system where initially there will be a video explaining all the basics about aircraft, then the instruments and then different positions of the aircraft. It’s very important that u remain fresh in orders to grasp and kindly listen attentively. Once the explanation part is over there will be officers who will be there to clarify ur doubts (plz ask any doubts if u have any but make sure that the concepts are clearly understood). Once this part is over there will be 5-6 tests. The first one will be questions related to the flight instruments (if u have clearly understood the instruments part u will easily be able to attend the questions, (plz do make sure that the attitude indicator is clearly understood as it is a bit confusing)). Once this is over the next test will be related to various position of the flight and u have to answer whether it’s diving, ascending, turning left or right.

To crack  SSB interview,  recommend you to get “Let’s Crack SSB Interview” book from Amazon.

Once this is over the next 3-4 test will be related to aptitude, reasoning (verbal and non verbal) people who qualify this will only be allowed for the simulation part. Unfortunately, due to misinterpretation I could not qualify this and was not allowed for the simulation part.

Once CPSS was over we felt that we would be send back home but then they said that u will also be subjected to PABT which is similar to CPSS except that u don’t have the aptitude but the first 2 test that is Instrument and position part will be there and there will also be simulation part which all will be allowed to take whether u clear the written part or not. It’s easy and even the simulation part was also quite easy. After that the results were announced and people who went through both the CPSS and PABT were selected, Unfortunately for us who could not clear the CPSS were not selected. It was quite disappointing that now u are not fit for flying branch but it was important to remain positive.

To crack  SSB interview,  recommend you to get “Let’s Crack SSB Interview” book from Amazon.

After that one of my friend who also did not clear the CPSS and was not fit for flying branch were in dilemma whether to attend the medicals or not which was to be at AFCME (Delhi). We, were told that u have to undergo medicals in spite of  whether u qualify the CPSS/PABT or not because there is always a chance that u might be transferred to ground duty branch . So accordingly we already had our flights booked from Bangalore to New Delhi.

Medicals:

Day 1:  We reported at AFCME, New Delhi on 2 march 2016 and requested them to start our medicals. Now we were a group of 5, (including me and my friend who didn’t qualify for the flying branch, the other two were the next batch recommended candidates for the flying branch and one was the AFCAT entry for ground duty). Although we didn’t qualify for the flying branch we were told to undergo the flying medicals (there is a difference in the flying and the ground duty medicals).

Day 1 we had our dental check up, height, weight, chest measurement.

Day 2: ON day 2 we had blood, urine test, ultrasound test,  x-ray test (We were asked to stand, sit, and lie down in different positions to check for any broken or abnormality in the bone structure of the body. (In this case there were few candidates who had a problem with the elbow angle),  and then there were several X-rays taken for the chest spine and the upper part of the body.

ECG: Sitting length and thigh length (for flying branch only ) and it gets completed within 15-20 mints

After that we had few eye test.

  • Color Combination: We were asked to stand in a dark room and there was a lantern with a hole in it. Colors were flashed through the hole and we were asked to identify the color. There were three colors: Red, green and white. This test is to check for the color blindness.
  • Distant Vision: This one is a routine test and we were made to read letters which were placed at a distance of 20 meters.
  • Pupil Dilation: We were given an eye drop and asked to put them in our eyes thrice at an interval of 15 minutes so that our pupil gets dilated to the fullest. After an hour we were called one by one and our eyes were tested with an instrument they had. PS: After putting the eye drops you wouldn’t be able to see clearly for the next 2 hours or so.

Day 3:

ENT: There were another few eye test that we were subjected through (for flying branch) and after that NT part started (often there is a confusion to get your ears cleaned for wax but it’s also necessary that there should be minimum wax). So, one day before I went and consulted an ear doctor and he said your ears are already cleaned and there is no need for wax removal.

Day 4:

This was the most funniest day as each and everyone of us asked were asked to remove our clothes and to stand wearing only the  innerwear. It was to check for elbow, flat foot, knock knees, sweaty palms. After that one by one was called inside a room and was asked to remove our inner wears to get our private parts tested.

Finally out of 5 only 2 were declared medically fit including me ( out of three 2 had eyes problems and 1 has spine problem and were given TR).

Happy, that at least I was fit and didn’t had any disability but was disappointed that I was not eligible for flying branch.  Nevertheless, u have to look at the positive side and being  more an  Army fan I aspire to join the elite “ PARATROPPERS” .

I would be really very happy if I could help someone.

My Contact no (Whatsapp)-9348033370 or u can drop me a message on facebook @ ([email protected]).

6 Basic Etiquettes That Every Armed Forces Aspirant Must Follow

0
Basic Etiquettes Defence Aspirant

The ambition of being an officer in the Armed Forces is a motivation in itself. Every aspirant works hard to get into this elite organisation. It is always said in SSB, that “we want a suitable personality for the Armed Forces”. So, it will be a good thing to inculcate some of the basic etiquettes of an officer in your daily life that affects your psychology and your living style. Below are some points that will make you clear about these etiquettes.

  1. Dress up like a Gentleman – You have never seen any officer dressed up like a shaggy person. He always maintains his gentleman hood. It’s not about the fashion or trend. But observe their etiquettes and way they appear. So should you. A gentleman hood is a mixture of good dressing sense and discipline.
  2. Always Stay Ready to Act – An officer is never off duty. So should you. Always stay ready to act in any situation. There is no place for excuses and delays in the Armed Forces. Lazy personality always stands last and an all-time leader stands first and ahead of the group.
  3. Catalyse The Situation In A Smart Manner – Everyday comes with a problem. The only difference is the degree of problems. In your casual life, always stand firm in solving and pacifying the situation. Be a mediator in the problem and catalyse the situation by pacifying the situation and untangle the problem.
  4. A Good Communicator Is A Good Leader – Before appearing in SSB, it is strictly advised to be a good and an effective communicator. An officer has to direct his men to make the task done and an effective communicator can clarify the task in a crystal clear way. So brush up your communication skill in your casual life and lead like a leader from the crowd.
  5. Pay Attention To Punctuality – Time is the resource that drives the Armed Forces. A soldier utilizes every second of his life and manages time to complete the task in time. Every Armed Forces aspirant must inculcate the quality of punctuality in his casual life. Measure every step of your life taking time as its standard unit. Delays are sin in the Armed Forces and cause of successive penalties. It not only impacts and inculcates an officer quality in you but also pays by improving your lifestyle and performance.
  6. Liveliness Is The Basic Requirement – An officer never descends his moral and always keeps his confidence on the peak. He lives every moment freely, even after getting burden from his seniors. You should also enjoy every moment and do correct work at the correct time.

To crack  SSB interview,  recommend you to get “Let’s Crack SSB Interview” book from Amazon.

Conclusion – Being an officer is a matter of personality and mind, but being a successful officer is the matter of Will and efforts. Try to behave and life an officer. It will structure your subconscious mind in an officer’s frame.  Inculcating these qualities will not only take you closer to your recommendation but will also make you a good and successfully person.

8 Ways To Build Up Your Stamina Like An Indian Army Soldier

1
8 Ways To Build Up Your Stamina Like An Indian Army Soldier

Army is one of the first organisations to extend a helping hand to anyone in need, be it during natural calamities or other missions. While many of them run out of endurance, our soldiers never back off, let alone the point of safeguarding borders like Siachen for months. No wonder how our soldiers are able to cope with the needs of people. Their stamina defines their extent to help, who need to be physically and mentally alert at all times.

Stamina is one’s ability to sustain a physical or mental effort for a long period of time and our soldiers are full of it. Every day, not only do the soldiers get tougher, faster and more efficient but discover who they are and what they can become.

While there are many tricks to increase one’s stamina, here’s what our soldiers follow during PTEs:

  1. Warm-up and Stretching: Walking briskly for five minutes or sprinting up to 100 metres is a good start for the day. This is followed by stretching of the.
  2. Interval Running: In interval running, you alternate between, sprinting, jogging and running. Walk for a few minutes, then start jogging and then sprint coming back to walking again. Interval training is the best option to increase your running stamina.
  3. Chin-ups, Sit-ups and Push-ups: These are to be done as many as you can in one minute. The more you are able to do, the more will be your stamina. Increasing the number of sets periodically and doing at least one more than that of yesterday will give a good boost in long run.
  4. Chest-touches: Make yourself in push-up position. Now, instead of doing push-ups, touch your hands to your chest altering between both the hands. At any given time, only one of your hands will be experiencing the weight of your body. Do as many as you can in one minute.
  5. Swim: If swimming is your hobby, it gives you an upper hand over others. Swimming warms up your whole body in one go. So yeah, you a replace points 1 and 2 with swimming.

This concludes the warmup session of the daily exercises. This is then followed by these exercises:

  1. Forward rolls and Back rolls: While most of the time, it is a punishment in the military, it is one of the best exercises to increase stamina. Rolling forward using your spine increases the endurance. Do it as many as you can in one minute.
  2. Squats: Raise your arms at your shoulder level in front. Keep your feet at least one meter apart. Now go down laying all your pressure on your thighs and slowly come back up. This should be done in sets of 4 with 15 squats each. This increases your weight lifting strength using your thighs.
  3. Stair climbing: Do this with your paws. Pick up a staircase which has 10-15 steps depending on how much you can and start going up and down using just your paws. And – no break until you come back down. Do 4 sets of 15 climbs each for optimum results.

Finally, after every exercise session, it is time to cool down your body. Perform a full-body stretch while holding for 5 seconds each. Then rest or meditate as you prefer.

7 Things To Know About ‘Air Force Station Arjan Singh’

0
Air Force Station Arjan Singh

UPDATE: Air Marshal Arjan Singh Passes away on 16th Sep 2017.

The IAF renamed West Bengal’s Panagarh air base as ‘Air Force Station Arjan Singh’ to honour India’s only living five-star military officer. It came on the occasion of 97th birthday of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh.

The renaming of the Air Force Station was announced by Chief of Air Staff Arup Raha on the eve of 14th April at a function in Delhi to mark Arjan Singh’s birthday, which was on 15th April.

Here is more about this advancement:

  1. This is for the first time that IAF have taken a conscious decision to rename an airbase after an individual who is an icon and a role model to every air warrior.
  2. The airbase comes under the control of Eastern Air Command. The chief of Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal C. Hari Kumar unveiled the new name to the air force station on Arjan Singh’s birthday.
  3. Located in Burdwan, 112 km from Kolkata, it is now set to be IAF’s second C-130J Super Hercules hub. The first being Hindon airbase, New Delhi.
  4. Air Force Station Arjan Singh will house the C-130J military transport aircraft from April 2017 onwards, capable of carrying out special operations. These planes will be flying with the Mountain Strike Corps along areas bordering China. The new 87squadron will start operations from the middle of August 2017.
  5. Constructed during the Second World War by the Allied forces, Air Force Station Arjan Singh played a key role as part of their China-Burma-India campaign.
  6. The base also played a significant role in 1965 and 1971 wars against Pakistan. During the 1971 war, it was again activated and hosted two fighter squadrons of the Sukhoi-7 and the MiG-21 aircraft.
  7. Panagarh is important because of its strategic and locational capabilities as it is in the hinterland and not close to the border. IAF’s assets can be kept here and in case of any contingency, the forces can be mobilised in any direction from this base.

It may be recalled that Arjan Singh was the IAF chief from August 1964-69, leading India through many wars including the 1965 Indo-Pak war. In recognition of the lifelong services of Arjan Singh, the government of India conferred the rank of the Marshal of the Air Force on Arjan Singh in January 2002, making him the first and the only five-star officer in the IAF.

He has been a role model to the soldiers throughout the country and continues to be an inspiration for many generations to come. SSBCrack salutes the sacrifices and services made by the Marshal of Air Force.
