Informative Guide to Goods and Services Tax (GST)

Informative-Guide-to-Goods-and-Services-Tax-GST

Since the beginning of the monsoon session in the Parliament, the term GST has been in thenews. Even before this, the term is being linked with parliament. Lets draw a light on this current affair terminology and gain some information about it.

What is GST?

As the term itself states its meaning, this tax is levied on goods and services. The tax will unify the India by replacing all the indirect taxes levied on goods and services in the country. Many other countries like Australia, Japan, Canada, and Germany, etc. have implemented GST and is fully successful in their nation. GST was first raised by BJP government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee regime in 2000. A committee was also framed to empower it under Asim Das Gupta. But the Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha in 2014 as Goods and Service Tax bill or the constitution (122 amendment) bill, 2014. The bill was passed by Lok Sabha in May, this year.

The issue has made lot of hype these days. This has got some pros and cons with reference to the global scenario and national conditions.

Pros

  • This tax is simple enough to be levied and is cost saving as it is the replacement of various indirect taxes reducing cascading effect of taxes
  • This will implement one India, one tax rate. Currently, different states have different tax rates. GST will make a single rate in the entire nation
  • GST will increase the tax revenue for government
  • It will reduce the cost of production which will make Indian goods and services competitive and will increase the export
  • This Tax is expected to lower down the corruption as multiple tax system will get vanished

Cons

  • The tax is expected to make customers unhappy as it will fetch the amount that is to be taken by manufacturers through tax credit system.
  • Some states like Jharkhand, who are dependent on their products, would have to share their revenue with government, making it a loss deal for them
  • The Center will get the power to share revenue with states making center more powerful and states to follow it.

Why in News?

Currently, as the mansoon session is running in the Parliament, GST, Lalit modi are the major points being drown in the session. Recently, the move for introduction of the constitution Amendment Bill of GST was supported by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Being a much-delayed bill, the finance minister pointed congress stating that the party is creating hurdles in country’s growth. On its contrary, the Congress leader Anand Sharma stated that GST can’t be discussed as it has not bee discussed earlier in the Business Advisory Committee and no time had been allocated for it.

Conclusion

Indian government is working hard to compete with the global progress. Indian economy is growing very fast and according to the survey, it will overcome china’s economy in future. Currently, china is facing tough times as its currency is facing fall down.  India has learned to regain the economic pace and with implantation of GST it will make Indian economy stronger. But the results lies in its implementation and feedback form the society.Informative-Guide-to-Goods-and-Services-Tax-GST

IAF Rescues 22 British, French Trekkers in Ladakh

Indian Air Force Rescue

Twenty-two British and French trekkers, stranded in high altitude Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir following heavy downpour, have been rescued by IAF personnel in the past two days.

“Braving adverse weather, IAF helicopters from Leh rescued 21 British Nationals and 1 French national on August 6 and 7 in a challenging casualty evacuation from high altitude in Ladakh,” Defence spokesman at Army’s Northern Command Col S D Goswami said today.

After five days of continuous downpour, all major rivers like Indus, Nubra, Shyok and their tributaries in Ladakh region were flowing above danger mark, he said.

Road and telephone communications were cut off. The Air Force Station in Leh received an SOS to rescue a group of British citizens who were stranded in the Markha Valley with some members suffering from asthma, he said.

‘Siachen Pioneers’, the premier IAF helicopter unit at Leh, was pressed into service, he added.

“Marginal weather and time of the day necessitated a search and rescue to be launched immediately. Two aircraft were launched, led by Commanding Officer Wing commander B S Sehrawat with Flight Lieutenant Cirag as formation leader, and Wing Commander KS Negi with Squadron Leader V Chauhan as his number two,” he added.

The pilots located the trekkers close to Thinlespa village on the bank of the river, the trekkers had made a temporary ‘SOS’ sign near the rivulet, he said, adding this distress signal on ground was instrumental in correctly identifying the location.

“The formation carried out one more shuttles and successfully evacuated a total of 10 British nationals,” he added.

On August 7, two sets of two Cheetah helicopters each, took off at sunrise, Col Goswami said adding that in a matter of a few hours the balance 11 Britishers were rescued.

Meanwhile, another request for evacuation of a French woman, who was badly injured, was received, he said. Even though she had severe spinal injury and broken ribs, she was evacuated to Leh airfield and promptly moved to the hospital, Col Goswami added.

Indian Army Killed 63 Pakistani Militants In J&K In 2015

Up to 63 militants, most of them local residents, have been killed in firefight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir since January this year. According to a police officer, many local militants have been killed in 2015 unlike in the past years. “In 2014, 110 militants were killed in the state and most of them were foreigners. But this year, more local militants were killed,” he said.

The police officer said more locals had joined militancy and they were more active in South Kashmir and parts of North Kashmir. “Since the militants are active in South Kashmir, the frequency of encounters in the region has also increased,” he said.

Militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen, LeT and the Jaish-e-Mohammad are active in South Kashmir comprising Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts, he added.

Police statistics show that 56 militants had been shot dead in encounters with the police, Army, CRPF and the BSF in first seven months of 2015. In the first two weeks of August, seven more militants were killed in encounters with security forces, taking the total number of militants killed by forces this year to 63.

The officer said foreign militants had been killed in firefights with security forces along the LoC and the International Border. The Army said 19 militants, mostly foreigners, had been killed along the LoC thus far. It claimed to have foiled 11 infiltration bids by militants.

According to police, 185-200 militants are active in the state and only 40 percent of them are foreigners.

General Officer Commanding Lt Gen Subrata Saha recently told reporters that educated youths joining militant ranks was a concern for all security agencies.
