“When in school, essays titled ‘The Best Day in My Life’ was among my favourites. I would write about different days, but today, I really want to pen down December 12, 2009, as the best day of my life,” says Ravi Shukla, son of a farmer from a small village in Lakhimpur Kheri, who received the coveted Sword of Honour and the President’s Medal for the Best Cadet at the Indian Military Academy’s (IMA) passing out parade last week.

From among 535 gentleman cadets, 22-year-old Lieutenant Ravi was chosen to receive the top honours on December 12.

“I knew that I was among the top three cadets, but the President’s Gold Medal and the Sword of Honour were indeed something that gave me a happy surprise,” said Ravi, while speaking to The Indian Express over telephone.

Commissioned in the 6 Kumaon Regiment, Ravi is not just the first in his family to join the Indian Army, but also the first from the Baraula village.

For the 1,800-odd villagers here, Ravi is a hero. Pramod Kumar Sharma, a neighbour whom Ravi calls his guide and who helped him prepare for the competition, said: “We have never had anyone from the village make it to the Indian Army in the past, leave alone winning the top honours. Ravi has not just made his family proud, but also his entire village.”

Having nursed the dream of being in the Indian Army since schooldays, Ravi made all efforts to join the UP Sainik School at Kanpur after passing Class VIII from St Don Bosco School in Lakhimpur district on the India-Nepal border.

“Even when he did not make it to the Sainik School, he kept alive the dream of joining the Army. It is his hard work, blessings of the entire village and destiny which helped him make it to the IMA and win the honours,” said Badshah Shukla, the proud father who owns 13 acres of land in the village.

In addition to Badshah, Ravi’s family comprises Devki (mother), sisters Sadhna and Prarthana and brother Pradeep, all elder to him.

Incidentally, Ravi could not make it to the Academy in his first attempt even when he had passed the exam. “When the call came, he was busy with his intermediate exams. The second time too, he passed the competition but when the call came, the date clashed with his sister Sadhna’s wedding. He requested for more time. A few days later, another call letter came and we sent him to the Academy,” said his father.

Also having aced the IIT-JEE, Ravi was in two minds about joining the NDA. “Both letters came almost simultaneously. Perhaps the dream of being a soldier was much stronger and finally, it was the Indian Army where I found my calling,” says Ravi.

Last Convo Of A Russian Soldier Asking Airstrike On Himself Will Give You Goosebumps

Last convo of Alexander Prokhorenko

A Russian soldier, Alexander Prokhorenko is supposed to have called for an airstrike on himself in Syria to kill ISIS operatives after touching and inspirational last words about love for country and family.

He was ordered to move to safety by his commander before the air strike but he told his commander he couldn’t escape the area, before adding: “Conduct the airstrike now, please hurry.”

His wife Ekaterina, who married her 18 months ago, had allegedly ‘no idea’ that her husband was serving in Syria fighting the ISIS. His wife was pregnant and they were expecting their first child when the brave officer ordered an airstrike on himself to blow the enemies along with him.

This was the reportedly the last conversation between Alexander Prokhorenko and his commander after he ran out of ammo:

Prokhorenko: They are outside, conduct the airstrike now please hurry, this is the end, tell my family I love them and I died fighting for my motherland.

Command: Negative, return to the green line.

Prokhorenko: Unable command, I am surrounded, they are outside, I don’t want them to take me and parade me, conduct the airstrike, they will make a mockery of me and this uniform. I want to die with dignity and take all these bastards with me. Please my last wish, conduct the airstrike, they will kill me either way.Last convo of Alexander Prokhorenko

Command: Please confirm your request.

Prokhorenko: They are outside, this is the end commander, thank you, tell my family and my country I love them. Tell them I was brave and I fought until I could no longer. Please take care of my family, avenge my death, good bye commander. Tell my family I love them!

Command: [No response, orders the airstrike]

The soldier died heroically calling for airstrike on himself, after finding that terrorists had surrounded him. The parents and wife of Alexander Prokhorenko were notified about his sacrifice and the entire Russian village of Gorodki mourned with loved ones, friends, classmates and co-workers of the Russian officer.

May his soul rest in peace. He gave inspiration to the generations of soldier to come by.

5 Life Lessons Military Brats Learn Early In Life

0
5 Life Lessons Military Brats Learn Early In Life

Being a military kid is different. We military brats live in a diverse subculture where we experience the military life as well as the civilian life which involves going on road trips, shifting and moving from place to place, meeting new people, adapting to the new surroundings, interacting with people from all age groups and so much more.
The military life shapes the entire personality and the life of military brats. Being born and brought up in the military one is for sure, you won’t be the ordinary child, your life experiences will be different than your civil counterparts, your family dynamics will be different, your definition of normal will be different, your perspective in life will be different, pretty much everything about you will be different.

While there are these differences in lifestyle, there are also certain values and lessons that military brats learn way too early in life. Lessons, which help us understand life better and make us the way we are.

  1. Nothing substitutes hard work.
Be it keeping our rooms organized, helping the parents with the home chores or doing the school projects and assignments in time, if there’s one thing military brats learn quite early in their childhood then it’s the value of hard work. We understand that though we may not be getting much fruitful results for our dedication and hard work now, we will someday. While many others struggle to keep up with the stress and chaos in their adult life, military kids are so accustomed to systematic work that no task seems too big or chaotic. Dedication does pay off. Sooner or later.
  2. No task/work is too small or below you.
The sense of humility comes early in military kids. The military parents always nudge and encourage their children to do their work on their own. The feeling of being independent and to be able to do any task with the thought that it’ll help you learn and grow and it’s good for your development is common to every military brat. Each task is done to empower oneself and no task is adjudged to be something that we ought not to do.
  3. History is important.
Us military kids get to go places along with our parents to different stations on postings and we get to visit different areas and cities and learn new things. With a rich history and culture like ours, one can’t help but be proud and if you happen to be a military brat then it’s all the more reason for you to be familiar with possibly all the places in the country and know the achievements of the Armed Forces and the history of our country.
  4. Diversity is enriching.
With moving from place to place every two- three years, there’s not just a change in the city/state but also the food, the sports, the culture and getting to see and know all these differences from an early age is something that really makes the military brats able to see thing from a different, (holistic rather) viewpoint. Different ideologies and different viewpoints enable the military kids to see things in a manner which is quite different from others. The interaction with people from different backgrounds enriches the overall personality of military brats.
  5. Importance of relationships.
With their father/ mother being posted somewhere and they themselves living elsewhere, and changing schools every two- three years and becoming the new kid everywhere they go, it’s possible that a child may end up having adjustment problems. However, the military brats look at this as a challenging to overcome and in time they realise that relationships are invaluable. Making friends in every station that they go to and remaining friends after several years, ability to start a small talk with anyone and to be in a long distance relationship are all examples of how the military brats can manage their relationships well from an early age.

Story Of Lt. Suchit Nautiyal Will Make You Emotional Also A Lesson For Young Officers

0
Lt. Suchit Nautiyal

I barely update my status on facebook, but today iam going to upadate and a long one !  Iam going to write something about a person who was my childhood friend , batchmate, ssbmate, tution friend, coaching friend, he was my mentor and motivator, much more than that he was my brother , we were real brother from different mother .  It is the story of a person who was truely dedicated to indian army , he was Lieutenant Suchit Nautiyal

Life & destiny had stolen my best friend from me , not a friend from me , but a son from a mother , a brother from a sister , an idle from children and a true friend from our group.

The story begins in 2010 when we both started dreaming of ARMY OFFICER together we filled the form , we gave exam , prepared for SSB but he succeed and I failed , he used to tell me each & everything happend in SSB from very first day to till conference & I was praying for him at home . He was unhappy when I failed but I was happy that he had done his work , he cleared his first ssb from 18 ssb ALLAHABAD . Later on he also cleared TES ssb from same board . But he joined NDA .
On 11-01-2011 he departed from dehradun and on 13-01-2011 he reported at khadakwasla , PUNE for his further studies. But before leaving d.dun he said me ” bhai ! I also wana see you there asap ” never give up , keep on trying till last ! . I let him believe , sure I will be with you soon . Later on when I cleared indian navy he was the happiest one among all but unfortunately I was medicaly unfit . He gave me moral support by saying ” bhai teri kismat mai kuch bada likha hai ”
He was very intelligent boy , a great artist and a fabulous BOXER , he always wanted to serve his nation , he cleared almost all the exam which he had given ! No one knows he left IIT for NDA . He used to call me from there whenever he got time he told me how he used to cry when he was in 1st sem , but when he became “DUKKI “(means in 2nd year ) he started enjoying there , he also told me how his seniors took his punishment by the system of PAIL , he also told me about the NDA SPECIAL TRAIN how he enjoyed whole night . He was very generous , inteligent and down to earth boy. He was gold medalist in boxing at NDA . He passed out from NDA in 2013 and on 13-01-2014 he joined prestigious IMA nearby his house . Lt. Suchit Nautiyal
He spent his 1 year in IMA , he taught cadet there how to drill properly to clear DST . He was very positive and cheerful boy , never got upset by anyone . He was the one who was with me in my on & off, when I was conferenced out from 18ssb allahabad , he was very upset , (I took some imp tips from him and his room mate Mukul Saini ) his words were ” bhai mujhe hamesha is baat ka malal rahega ki tu mere sath academy mai nahi hoga ” but don’t give up . “If I have done it , you can do it and you will do it . ” believe in yourself and be original . .if today iam still crazy for army just because of him. He was the one who knew everything about me , and I knew everythng about him , I enjoyed my life fullest with him . He taught me swimming, he always helped me whenever I was in problem . He was an extraordinary boxer , he won silver medal in IMA . , owing to small height he lost final bout with his oponent , I said bhai big things come in small packages. He replied bhai ” LIFE IS A GIFT ACCEPT IT ” he said later I will try for OLYMPIC from army everyone appreciated him for his kind nd coperative behaviour ,whether he is juniors /seniors to him . I still remembered that day when we both were in ima canteen one of my friends come and said ” YAAR NAUTIYAL SIR TO BHOT BHENKAR HAI ‘SWORD OF HONOUR ‘ KE CANDIDATE HAI ” But he stoped him by saying ‘ ye sab kuch nai hota just give your best & always be honest to your work and yourself ‘
Last year on 13-12-2014 an auspicious day of his birthday he passed out from IMA . I was very happy and that moment brings me to tears when the shower of flowers was put over G.C. But I was little upset that he didn’t get the “sword of honour ” he was JUO in academy. He said me ” bhai ye sab moh maya hai , bhanu pratap singh bhot acha and hard working genius cadet tha isliye use mila, dono ne same post pe jana hai and OUR MAIN AIM IS TO SERVE & SAVE OUR COUNTRY . We enjoyed alot after P.O.P for next 18 days . He got 8 GORKHA RIFLES. . On 31st -dec -2014 he called his adjutant from IMA I WAS WITH HIM. his officer asked him to report on 3rd of jan at chandigarh and from there he had to go kargil . He had 1 year attachment with infantry . On 3rd of jan he arrived at chandigarh and started the 2nd phase of life to serve the nation as an army officer. During this 11 month he moved different different places with his unit like kargil , leh , ladakh , batalic and an intense area like kupwara . He loved and give respect to his troup . Once when he came home we went to garhi cantt for some official work, one soldier check our identity he saluted suchit he said ” aap mere papa ki age ke hai jab dress mai honga tab kariyega abi mah. Civilian hu . It shows how down to earth he was. He was thinking to bringing up of one student whose parents cannot afford for studies, even he had given 2 to 3 thousand rupees per month for his education and look after . He wanted that education is our birth right and one must get it . ! ! ! He gave his last 11 months to indian army at the intense area like kupwara , kargil , leh etc . He fought there with natural disaster with great passion, once I dint get his call for few days then he told me that he had strucken in snow and went around 5 to 6 ft down the surface at batalic for 3 hours, but one of his troops saved him but unfortunately that troop met with a mine and there was a great blast and has been admitted in base hospital, chandigarh . Suchit was very upset for few days . Before coming , dehradun he called me nd said bhai finally I have given my 11 months to indian army here . And. I enjoyed alot here. Bas 14 din bache hai ye kat jaye sahi se . On 3rd dec he messaged me bhai mai kal garh aara hu and I got posting in pune finally . . . On 5th dec. Around 12.30 pm, I and Abhishek Semwal went to his home just to meet him . But his brother told “bhai wo bua ke garh gaya hai ” he bought new bike for his younger brother on diwali , so that he can go college easily . He was thinking to buy a car in pune but god has already written something for him . Suddenly I got a call from ROHIT , WHERE IS SUCHIT ? (everyone was thinking he was with me ) I said ” wo garh agaya apni bua ke yaha hai ” he told me ” uske garh pe bhot bheed hai , he met with an accident and WOH CHALA GAYA ” I SHOUTED WHAT !!!!
I went to his home and the scenario was improbable . I never screamed in my life but that day it was unstoppable. I was remembering all those precious moments which we had enjoyed together . I was remembering your those words why you called it again nd again “bhai shaheed ho jaounga par road accident mai nahi marna gharwale bhot rote hai . ” I was stunned. I wish if I were be with you that time result might be different . I have visited best place of my life with him the only place where we have never been to that was CEMETRY. Although this time was also with you yet never thought it’s for you bro !!:'(Lt. Suchit Nautiyal In IMA
But at the same time you showed me again how anyone can get respect even after death. From soldier to Maj General everyone was presented to gave him guard of honour . When your body was taking away for funeral , I silently stood in the corner and cry on that fateful day, I refused to say goodbye because I didn’t want to see you go away . I wanted to u see last time he was lying down with the great smile.
I heard that chat between the Brigadier and your commanding officer that it is the loss of country , he was a great young officer who could go upto the post of GENERAL because he was too young !! But …………. )

Our friendship is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Talking to you made me smile and meeting you set me free. I can’t believe that fate is taking you away and ripping us apart. I just want to say that I will miss you from the bottom of my heart.

Life and destiny had stolen my friend away from me but nothing can take away the precious memory !!

I don’t want you to like it !!
but I want you to share it.
He was very environment-friendly he always wanted to plant trees ! .if u respect indian army and our soldiers please must plant a tree nearby your locality and wherever you want ,as today(13 dec ) is his birthday it will be great tribute to him.
Although he has lived short life yet the work done by him was great .
He was also a great motivational speaker he always motivated youth to join indian army . So I also request you on his behalf , JOIN ARMY ! And feel that awesome feeling of wearing dress and serve the nation .

Please drive with care someone loves you !!!

Thanks !!
Rip bro !!

9 Unofficial Punishments By Seniors You Will Get At Military Training Academy

0
9 Unofficial Punishments By Seniors

Firstly I would like to clear up the air about the word ‘Punishments’. The meaning of the word at defence training academies in India is not what is commonly understood as a moral rebuke or penance to make amends for a wrong doing. It’s more matter of factly like Penalties.

A punishment just means a ‘WTF’ interruption in your routine plans to chill out or do something you’ve been planning on catching up with for the past week – in my time back in 1988, it usually meant writing that letter or tidying up the billet or catching up with assignments etc. It does not mean ‘Ragging’ as made out in pop media – not by a long shot!

Disclaimer : The narrative below is from my own training at IMA in 1988. A lot may have changed since, so please don’t judge these wonderful institutions from outward appearances. If it was possible, the blood in my veins would be of Olive Green color!

UNOFFICIAL ‘PUNISHMENTS’ BY SENIORS :

  1. Swimming on the Rocks: Crawling on gravel with arms locked behind the back clad only in IMA swimming costume. I did plenty of that every day during the break between training hours and sports.
  2. Rogering Nite (Summers) : Front Rolls > Back Rolls > Side Rolls in random combination of 10 each after consuming at least two bath mugs full of water post dinner. Duration Two hours or maybe more. Venue – Billet compound which usually had grass to soak up the vomit many would throw up. Kit – Swimming Costume. Battle Cry – Cannot be printed. Too saucy! Mind you there was neither inclination nor energy to go take a shower before hitting the sack. Just stagger in wipe body with the towel and dive in forget the odour. We all smell the same.  No wonder we had a dozen bed sheets and towels apiece.IMA OTA Punishments
  3. Missourie Nights (Winter) :  Front Rolls > Back Rolls > Side Rolls in random combination after consuming at least two bath mugs full of water post dinner. One bath mug of water to douse the body and stand at Savdhaan (Attention Position) for a few minutes. No trembling allowed. Then the senior would one by one ask each cadet to count the total number of lights visible in Mussourie (16 KM away as the crow flies)Naturally there was no correct figure. One person would be arbitrarily picked out as the correct answer and would be told to do the honour of pouring a mug full of water over the heads of the rest of the platoon. Believe you me the guy doing the honour was anything but relieved because he would be told to drink up the rest of the water in all the buckets and then the whole platoon would be ‘dismissed’ to go and fill up another bucket full and get back into parade in double time. The straggler would be told that the whole batch would have to repeat the whole shindig because he got too late.
  4. Muster Bluster
Muster Call at 0430h. Since it is expected GCs would be sleepy after a long night Ragda session, the received wisdom of the senior cadets used to be that put them through their paces first thing in the morning so that they don’t get sluggish while going to the PT fall-in. Thereafter they will keep going through the day.
Patti Parade – change from sports kit to outdoor Dungaree to indoor formals and back to PT  Kit.
  5. BAJRI ORDER :
Type I : Single Pack : Rucksack ‘A’ Scale filled with gravel. Minimum 30 min of  Sit (on haunches) Stand Sit – Stand, Sit – Stand, Sit – Stand… Dress Dungarees. For special occasions – swimming trunks.Type II : Two rucksacks ‘A’ Scale strapped together filled with gravel. Scores of Sit (on haunches) Stand Sit – Stand, Sit – Stand, Sit – Stand …Type III :  Two rucksacks ‘A’ Scale strapped together filled with gravel and a cycle held in bare hands and raised over the head. Stand Attention or the more favorite Sit – Stand, Sit – Stand, Sit – Stand …
  6. Endurance Run :  Time after dinner. Dress dungarees and ammunition boots.
  7. Hackle Order :  Full ceremonial cadet dress with IMA hackle clipped onto beret / turban. Done to throw the fear of the Company Commander into a persons hide. It meant, do this the next time and you get marched upto the Coy Cdr and that could mean anything from 14 restrictions onwards … (For official punishment Restrictions see below)
  8. Push Ups (Military Style ie. arms locked to the side of chest and not akimbo like pehalwans) anything from 100 to 500. I could reach well beyond 100 after that the ‘Shamming’ started. The seniors notice, you get yelled at but the game goes on in all seriousness. Oh well! Wish there was a rewind button in life. Would gladly return to belove IMA!
  9. Sit Ups : (Arms locked behind the head legs stretched out)  Infinite ie. as many as can be squeezed into the night. I have personally done 650 (Helped me a lot. I am arguably the first person in the World to reach Rohtang Pass on an ordinary cycle (Hero Brand) with a three speed gear added on after cycling all the way from Dehradun 550 KM (3985 Mtrs Lat 32.371627 Lon 77.246681 Google Earth) Rohtang to Pathankot via Dharamsala 353 KM
