How To Clear Screening Test In SSB Interview

With so many things coming for personality development and other related articles aspirants have been writing me to get back to basics. I had been writing a lot about how to start preparation for SSB and also about the basic cycle that should be followed by the aspirants for sure shot success. The way of how to start preparation has been given in my previous cycle. Try to follow it for maximum utilisation of time, else the things might not be utilised properly. In this article I would like to suggest the basics of how to clear the very first day. Let me make very clear to the beginner’s that only those who clear day 1 of screening test are allowed to stay for the rest of four days at the centre and they can only give the rest of the rounds. Rest aspirants are asked to return on the day itself from the SSB centre.
Screening test consists of basic testing of aptitude followed by PPDT. Aptitude has been covered by me in separate articles, so let’s focus now on the PPDT, which is picture perception and discussion test in which a hazy picture is shown and the aspirants need to write a story based on the observation. Once the story is written people are divided into sub groups, so that the GD can happen where it is expected to deliver a common story. The main part which helps in selection in screening test is the way the story is written which needs a positive perception and the individual narration. Also the GD should be good. So let me give some mantra of success to write a good story:

How To Clear Screening Test In SSB Interview

  • Story should be related to your personality rather than something which you copied from some How To Clear Screening Test In SSB Interviewsource or some book. Everything at SSB should be personality specific. So remember a story can help one person to get recommended while if followed by someone who has different personality can lead to screen out as result. So write what suits you.
  • Also the story should have all the basic elements which are expected by the examiners there which they actually narrate while starting the exam. Pay attention to all the instructions and mark things accordingly in the answer sheet.
  • Once the story is well written the key to success lies in the individual narration also, so it should be time bound and flawlessly spoken.
  • Stories written should perfectly reveal your qualities also so that the assessors know that you are an officer material and can select you.
  • Action of the story and marking the replica in the box given looks like small things but are equally important so follow the rules while writing and marking.
  • Don’t go at SSB just like this, prepare, introspect, visualize, change yourself as per need and then go to SSB with full preparation. Though it is said that you have to be yourself but the real exercise is to start early n realise what you actually are beforehand for sure shot success.

Body language and how to perform in a GD in such an exercise is very important and I would deal it in a separate article. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for OLQ’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Though I keep on saying that SSB is the easiest exam but it can only become easy if your preparation’s are appropriate and the efforts are done in the right direction.

Women In The Armed Forces: A Broader Perspective

1
Women In The Armed Forces

There has been a debate over the roles and equality between men and women since the inception of mankind. From the ancient period to the modern era, the issue of women and their role in the society has remained a hard nut to crack. We have indeed come a long way to the 21st century where women can not only match men step to step but can even better their achievements. We have had women CEOs of multinational companies, prime ministers, entrepreneurs and what not. Women have even ventured into space. Having said that, we still live in a society which has a parochial mind set. Or to put it straight our society is still more or less patriarchal. And when it comes to the role of women in the armed forces, we have a sacrosanct and definite role for them.

Women In The Armed Forces – BACKGROUND

The induction of women as regular officers started in the year of 1992 in the Indian Army with a short Women In The Armed Forcesservice commission course. After this the other two forces navy and air force followed suit and started recruiting female candidates into their establishment. Prior to 1992, women were only part of medical, nursing and dental corps. We have indeed come a long way since then and women are inducted every six months on a regular basis in all the three armed forces. The maximum term up to which women can serve as a regular officer is 14 years except the medical corps.

Women In The Armed Forces – CURRENT SCENARIO

As things stand, women consist of about 2.65% officers in the Army, 3.1% in the navy and about 7% in the air force. However, their services are limited to administrative, logistic and back support. Women are not considered for full fledged warfare and battlefield duties in all the three services. Women play their part pretty well in fields like medical, education and technology but when it comes to exposing them straight in the face of the enemy, the armed services have employed a policy of strict refusal. Many reasons have been cited to back this decision but there is a longstanding debate about equality and status of the fairer sex. Some people also argue that when women have come a long way in this globalised world, why they can’t be considered for a battle field position. People also feel that there is a gender bias prevailing in our services and women are treated as second grade officers. People allege that when BSF can have an all women battalion why other forces cannot?

Women In The Armed Forces – A PRAGMATIC VIEW

There is no doubt that women have achieved tremendous feats like climbing the Everest, leading the contingent at RD parade and winning various laurels but when it comes to the issue of national security you cannot let sentiments take over. Yes, women are really active in the forces of countries like Israel, USA and Australia but even these countries do not let them face the direct attack of enemy. India is not as technologically advanced as the developed countries. Most of our equipments have to be manually operated and this limits the role of women in battle duties. Moreover, the conditions during the war are really nerve wrecking and no country would want their women to face such horrific circumstances when there are suitable men for the purpose. As things stand there is absolutely no doubt about the potential of women in any aspect related to the defense of our country but there are certain other factors which need to be addressed first.

Women In The Armed Forces – PERSONAL COMMENT

Let’s not become emotional about this sensitive subject. Every step taken by the armed forces has to be in the direction of improvement. Although there would be many women who are as capable as their male counter parts to confront the enemy directly and give it their all for the country, it is for the top brass to decide what needs to be done next. The issue is not a very simple one as it also involves the safety of women in the forces because I can vouch for the fact that women are treated with utmost respect and courtesy in the armed forces. Therefore, no decision should be taken in a huff, all the parameters must be considered and ultimately it should be the flag of our country which Flies High!!!

Indian Army Requiring Modernization

Indian Army Requiring Modernization

If there is one thing permanent in this mercurial and ever changing world, that is change. The world today is moving as fast as ever, if one wishes to catch up with it, one has to incorporate constant up gradations and modernizations in oneself. As far Indian Army is concerned this statement is an understatement. Yes, the Indian Army is India’s prestigious and most revered institution but there is a feeling that the needs and demands of the Indian Army have not been met more often than not. Therefore, Indian Army is fettered by its technological and governmental limitations.

Indian Army Requiring Modernization WHAT IS THE PROBLEM

  • We all are aware of the fact that we are numero uno in the list of arms exporters of the world. We Indian Army Requiring Modernizationare majorly dependent on countries like Russia and Israel to meet our hardware demands.
  • As the world is changing rapidly there is an utter need to include modern and advanced equipments in the arsenal of the Indian Army. Given the governance system we have in place, there are lots of bureaucratic delays and spanners in the path of equipment procurement.
  • The governmental institutions like the Ordnance Factories Board (OFBs) and DRDO have been rattled with technological and procedural delays which only exacerbate the situation.
  • As a result most of the equipments are on the verge of obsolescence or in dire need of up gradation. If India wants to keep enemies like China and Pakistan at bay, it has to undergo a revamp.
  • The mechanized infantry comprises of tanks such as Arjun MKI, T-72, T-72M1s, MBTs (Main Battle Tanks). Most of these tanks are bereft of adequate ammunition and also lack night fighting capabilities except for Arjun and T-90.
  • There is an extreme and inordinate shortage of ammunition. All the weapons are of no use without the ammunitions. Army has a critically low level of ammunition reserves and therefore it is forced to buy them at highly beefed up prices.
  • In addition to this when we talk about artillery, in the past 30 odd years no new gun has been included. India’s indecision about replacing the 180 mm caliber guns with the 155 mm has only made matters worse.

Indian Army Requiring Modernization POSSIBLE SOLUTION

  • All that wars we fought and won be it the 1971 war or the 1965 war underlined our dependence on a foreign nation (Russia) to help us win. In this unpredictable and precarious scenario we can take no one for granted. There is no other option than becoming self sufficient.
  • The procurements of equipments will take time no matter what. Making indigenous equipments will lead to more delay. Therefore, we need to prioritize the things which we require. For example new up gradations can wait but bullets cannot.
  • The government has to get its act together and show its indulgence in the defense of our country. Over used equipments have taken precious lives of our men already. No further slack can be tolerated
  • A long term procurement and production policy needs to be set up. The Make in India campaign is good initiative to draw foreign companies in defense manufacturing.
  • Partial or full privatization of Ordnance factories and inviting private players to stir up the competition is a good idea.
  • Transfer of Technology route can be taken to address immediate woes.
  • Last but not the least, youngsters have to be encouraged and motivated to join this rather challenging field of defense equipment production.

This was it in the article about the modernization prospects of Indian Army. I hope you people have deciphered each and everything in this article; you can contact me on [email protected] for any query. Till then stay strong stay focused!!! JAI HIND

The Armed Forces humanitarian assistance mission in response to the floods was named Mission Sahayata (assistances). Northern Command’s humanitarian assistance to Civil authorities was named ‘Operation MEGH RAHAT‘. The Indian Army, Air Force, and the Navy, committed large resources to the assistance mission including over 30,000 troops ( 21,000 in Srinagar, and 9000 in Jammu), 15 engineer task forces, 84 Indian Air Force and Army Aviation Corps fixed wing transport aircraft and helicopters, naval commandos and rescue specialists, and Base Hospital, four field hospitals, over 106 medical detachments. “Operation Megh Rahat”, ended on 19 September 2014, but “Operation Sadbhavna”, the relief and medical assistance support, according to government press release, will continue in “close synergy with the civil administration and the police”.

The Jammu and Kashmir floods, described as a ‘tragedy’, by Lt Gen DS Hooda, Northern Army Commander, “became evident”, on 7 September, 14, the third day of incessant rains, when flood waters breached the banks of Jhelum, and submerged Srinagar, including the Badami Bagh Cantonment, disrupted “ electricity, water supply and civil communications” and flooded the headquarters of XV Corps, which was responsible for “coordinating all rescue operations”. The flooding of headquarters XV Corps, and the Srinagar Cantonment, Hooda acknowledged, delayed the army’s rescue operations in Srinagar but “only for a few hours ”. The rescue operations however, did not affect rescue work in “South Kashmir”, the worst affected area in the first three days, and the Jammu region. In Srinagar, where the “Army does not operate” except in the “Badami Bagh Cantonment and the area of the airfield”, the General said the rescue operations were mainly conducted by “Kashmiris” from Srinagar based Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Centre. Responding to media reports that locals were discriminated against, he said that it is hardly likely that soldier of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry would discriminate against the Kashmiris in carrying out the rescue mission.

During the first few days the search and rescue operation were hindered by shortage of boats and bad weather. Boats were airlifted from all corners of India, including from far away Tamil Nadu. In the absence of civil boats the army pressed into service its BAUTS, more appropriate for assault river crossings than rescue assistance during floods. By the 11 September, there were 224 army boats and 148 NDRF’s inflatable boats in the affected area conducting rescue and search operations. For those who were stranded on roof tops as flood water menacingly swirled around them, Air Force helicopters with IAF Garud Commandos help winch the stranded people to safety. Several hundred were rescued from rood tops. In some cases the Indian Air Force(IAF) commandos had to break through the roof to rescue the trapped people.

The Army Commander denied media reports that it had “embedded journalists”, and that army has conducted its rescue according to “a hierarchy of importance and influence“, rather than “on the first-seen-first-saved basis”. On the incidents of stone throwing by some people, he said, “the incidents were very few” and “blown out of proportion. Most people rescued were extremely appreciative of the Army’s effort”, and that the rescue mission was assisted by “local volunteers who have contributed immensely.”
