All You Want To Know About INA – Indian Naval Academy

0
Indian Naval Academy

The Indian Naval Academy is the premier officer training establishment of the Indian Navy located on the coasts of northern Kerala at Ezhimala , Payannur in the Kannur District. It is the initial officer training establishment of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. It conducts basic training for all officers inducted into the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. NAVAC was established in May 1969, while its Ezhimala campus was inaugurated on 8 January 2009. It shares the 2,452 acres (9.92 km2) site with the naval base depot, INS Zamorin, and the naval hospital, INHS Navjivani.

Here I bring you some facts and all that you should know about the Indian Naval Academy:

1. Before independence, officer cadets of the Royal Indian Navy were trained in the UK with the Royal Navy. Cadets underwent four years of training in Dartmouth and were commissioned as Sub Lieutenants upon their return. In 1949, the officer training for the Navy began at the interim Joint Services Wing (JSW) of the Armed Forces Academy. The NDA was established in 1954 as the Joint Services Academy of the Indian Armed Forces. By 1968, the Navy realised that the NDA could not keep up with its expanding staffing requirements. It also needed additional space and facilities to impart advanced maritime skills to officers and sailors. In May 1969, the Indian Naval Academy was established in Cochin to consolidate facilities for naval training.

2. The motto of the institution is “Vidyayaa Amrutam Ashnute” which means to “Eat nectar through knowledge, i.e. be immortal through knowledge”.

3. Set up at the foot of seven hills of which Mount Dilli is the tallest ( 260 meters high ), this sprawling academy, which is also Asia’s largest, is spread over an area of 2,452 acres with a perimeter of 22 kms and is surrounded by a picturesque 7 km beach stretch. The serene Kavvayi backwaters in the region form an integral part of the academy which also has large forest area with a variety of flora and fauna.

4. This world class academy and a centre for academic excellence for the sea guardians of our country aims to provide University education to its young officers in a military environment in view of the growing complexity of Navy’s various responsibilities.

5. Apart from imparting quality training to the Indian Cadets, the INA, also trains the best cadets from friendly foreign nations like Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, etc.

6. The period of initial training, at INA Ezhimala, for 10+2 (Executive) and 10+2 (Technical) cadet entry is 4 years. The Naval Orientation course for Direct Entry is of 22 weeks duration. However, for cadets joining through NDA, it’s only 1 year at INA.

7. Upon joining, cadets have the option to opt for Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture and are awarded a Bachelor of Technology degree upon graduation. Upon graduation, cadets are commissioned as Sub-Lieutenants in the Navy. Cadets majoring in Naval Architecture have to undergo an additional 6 months of training at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam after graduation. They also have the option to enroll for additional post-graduate specialisation in the field at the IIT, Delhi.

8. The Indian Naval Academy, in collaboration with some of the best institutes imparting technical education like the IITs , NITs and BITS across the country also offers its cadets with a broad-based spectrum of understanding the subjects by sending them to these selected institutions on educational tours under a memorandum of understanding ( MoU ).

9. The cadets of the Integrated Naval Academy Course ( INAC ) at the INA undergo a 4 year professional B-tech training curriculum aimed at improving their technical expertise with a qualified degree in mechanical engineering and electrical and electronics engineering for the cadets opting for technical and executive cadres of the Indian Navy respectively .

10. The subjects are categorised broadly into Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Meteorology, Oceanography and computers. Naval related Service subjects are also covered during the training period. In addition to this, the academy also prioritises giving practical and hands-on training to the under-trainees in Seamanship, Navigation, Watermanship or Damage Control and Fire Fighting.

11. On reporting at the academy, cadets are assigned to any one of the 5 squadrons which are planned to increase up to 16. Each squadron consists of five divisions with approximately 40 cadets in each division. Each division is commanded by a commissioned officer of the rank of Lieutenant, responsible for monitoring, guidance and counselling of the cadets. The squadron is headed by an officer of the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Squadrons are generally housed together in the same dormitory through classroom instruction and outdoor training are conducted separately depending on the cadet’s selected majors and specialisations.Indian Naval Academy

Life As A NCC Cadet

1
A NCC Cadet

To be a NCC cadet is like being unique, hardworking, dedicated, punctual, and most of all, an achiever. It inculcates the attitude of never giving up, makes you optimistic and builds a lot of self-confidence and character. The life as a cadet is one of the best experiences one can ever have as it teaches them life as it is and shows how it is to be an officer in the Indian Armed Forces.

NCC, however is a bit underrated when it comes to joining the armed forces. As a matter of fact, NCC cadets live life like an officer without being a part of the premier Indian military training institutes like NDA and IMA.

Here is how it feels to live life as a NCC cadet:

  1. The total training period for a cadet is 3 years for seniors with an extension of 1 year permissible & training period for juniors is of 2 years. Every cadet of the Senior or Junior Division has to undergo service training for a period of at least 4 hours per week during the training year.

  1. However, no training is carried out during periods when the college or school through which a cadet is enrolled is closed for a vacation. Every cadet of the Senior and Junior Division has undergo service training for a minimum period of 75% of total hours during the annual college and school session.

  1. Every cadet (in case of JD, who has completed one full year of training and is in his second year) attends an annual training camp of 9–10 days, also known as National Combined Annual Training Camp. For SD/SW the duration is usually for up to 30 days. At the end of the camp training the cadets receive a certificate of successful completion.

  1. Unlike most of the military institutes like NDA or IMA, young girls are also allowed to join the corps giving them equal opportunities as that of boys. Infact, in most groups, girls are alloted a whole new and different unit.

  1. NCC takes part in Subroto Cup Football Tournament, Jawahar Lal Nehru Hockey Cup and Mavlankar Shooting Championship on regular basis. Other than this, NCC cadets take part in Mountaineering, Trekking, Cycle/Motorcycle Expeditions, Parachute Sailing, Para Courses, Slithering, Desert Safari and White Water Rafting. Seems like a good deal even while doing your graduation from outside, right?

  1. NCC also conducts Youth Exchange Programme. The aim of YEP is a country-to-country exchange of cadets belonging to NCC/equivalet Govt/Youth Organisations of friendly countries and participation in various activities and appreciation of each other’s socio-economic and cultural realities.

  1. It offers a whole new life of adventure as eight rock climbing camps are held each year to expose the cadets to the basics of elementary rock climbing and to inculcate spirit of adventure amongst cadets. Four of these camps are held at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and other four camps at Nayyardam near Trivandrum in Kerala.

  1. Apart from this, various other camps are also organised as follows: Republic Day Camp (RDC), Combined Annual Training Camps (CATC), National Integration Camp (NIC), Advance leadership course, Army Attachment Camp, Hiking And Trekking Camps, Thal Sainik Camp (TSC), Vayu Sainik Camp(VSC), Nau Sainik Camp(VSC), etc.A NCC Cadet

  1. And the best part, you have to attend the unit for parade, drills and practise only on weekends, that too, just for four hours!

  1. After getting your NCC ‘C’ certificate, you are eligible for direct SSB interview for the respective arms. So, direct entry!

On a final note, let me leave you with the pledge that every NCC cadet upholds to:

WE THE CADET OF THE NATIONAL CADET CORPS, DO SOLOEMNLY PLEDGE THAT WE SHALL ALWAYS UPHOLD THE UNITY OF INDIA. WE RESOLVE TO BE DISCIPLINED AND RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN OF OUR NATION. WE SHALL UNDERTAKE POSITIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE IN THE SPIRIT OF SELFLESSNESS AND CONCERN FOR OUR FELLOW BEINGS.

Wherever You See A Soldier Don’t Forget To Thank And Salute Him

0
Indian Army Soldiers

Countrymen this is a request to spare few minutes and read this article, think upon it and share if you want. To begin with I would like to say that long gone are the days when Country used to come first for us Indian’s.

Indian Armed forces have 1,325,450 soldiers on which there is a responsibility to protect 1,236,344,631 population of INDIA and to guard 3,166,144 sq kilometers area.

Rather than this in flood, earthquake, cyclone in all such tough situation they are asked to provide help.

They also do work like carrying INDIAN people who are in trouble in different countries due to home war etc.

They also help neighborhood countries in their tough times.

All above-mentioned things INDIAN ARMED FORCES do proudly with courage and dedication.

If we divide the total population of our country by total no soldiers you would be shocked to read that on each and every soldier there is a responsibility to protect 1000 people of INDIA.

And if we lose any of our soldiers the life of 1000 of INDIAN people get in danger. But due to our fascinated media we are not been able to get news like what’s happening on borders and how bravely our soldiers are protecting us.Indian Army Soldiers

So my request is that wherever you see a soldier don’t forget to thank him or to salute him because who knows which soldier is protecting you.

Start this movement tell the politicians and those who thinks that INDIAN people are irresponsible that we do respect our soldiers and their lives and courage is very important for us.

#RESPECT_SOLDIERS#RESPECT_VETERANS.

How To Be Positive : Self-Introspection

0
OTA Chennai Cadets

Hello Warriors! Many a times we feel our thoughts flying in despair thinking of what better could’ve been done to avoid that particular situation in the SSB or how you could’ve been done better in the interview. This is the negative state of mind. This is where one needs to show positiveness, an OLQ. Being positive not only makes you self-confident but also gives you a feeling of intense satisfaction on whatever you do.

After all, none of us want to be in grumpy, complaining, and sad company. By choosing to take a positive outlook on life, you can begin to shift out of a negative frame of mind and see life as filled with possibilities and solutions instead of worries and obstacles. If you want to know how to think more positively, just follow these tips:

  1. Think positive: Those who think positively double their chance to realize happiness and this is most important to conquer. But the ones who does it, increases their chances of success.

  2. Surrounding yourself with positive vibes: Optimists learn one lesson early on – the more positive your surroundings and companions, the more positive will your own outlook be towards life and its challenges. However, this is not completely in our hands. We can’t decide for the people around us. They have to make their own choices. However, what can be done is to slowly and steadily limit contact with those who bog you down every time they speak to you. If the relationship is important, don’t cut off all contact but do take care to limit your conversations and the time spent with such people. Also, take care not to share anything of consequence with them – focus on small talk.

  3. Have self-confidence: Happy people believe in themselves. They believe in their goals, their wisdom, and their power. They see themselves as winners. They believe they will prevail in the long term.

  4. Understand the benefits of being a positive thinker: Choosing to think more positively will not only help you take control of your life and make your everyday experiences more pleasant, but it can also benefit your mental and physical health as well as your ability to deal with change. From an increased life span to lower rates of depression and distress, a positive person has a more natural ability to form relationships and cement bonds.

  5. Take responsibility for your attitude: You are solely responsible for your thoughts, and your outlook on life is a choice. If you tend to think negatively, you are choosing to think that way. With practice, you can choose to have a more positive outlook.

  6. Keep a diary to reflect your thoughts: Recording your thoughts can enable you to step back and evaluate patterns in your thinking. Write down your thoughts and feelings and try to spot any triggers that lead to either positive or negative thoughts. Taking just twenty minutes to follow your pattern of thinking at the end of every day can be a valuable way to identify your negative thoughts and make a plan to change them to positive thoughts.

  7. Visit a peaceful place: It can help to have a personal escape when you need to turn your attitude around. Many people find that spending a little time outdoors improves their mood. And nothing is good than a fresh air with so many trees around.

  8. Focus on the brighter side of a given issue: Every situation will have two sides to it – one favorable, one not quite desirable. Optimists, when confronted with something that cannot be prevented or circumvented, are the people who immediately shift their focus to glean out all that’s good about it. This helps them make the best of the situation – with the results, sometimes, turning out to be even better than what would have come otherwise.

  9. Dreaming big and generously: Don’t shrink your thoughts. Eternal optimist is the person who knows that only when you dream big can you achieve something that’s worthwhile. If you’ve set your goals small, you’ve limited the scope of your life.

  10. Being passionate about all that you do: For optimists, SSB is more than just the feeling of getting recommended. It is also an opportunity to learn, grow, and do better. Love what you do because that is what’ll take you places.

  11. Practicing mindfulness at all times: Optimists don’t revise their past constantly. Nor do they make castles in the air of the future. They are happy because they are realistic. And realists stay in the present. They know that the only time that matters is the present. It’s the only time when you have any real power to do anything.

  12. Fake it until you make it: Do you know that a happy person tends to smile? If you don’t, it’s a fact that being positive and happy brings you a smile on your face. However, studies show that the reverse is also true, i.e., if you smile or just fake a smile, you are more likely to be happy and positive.

  13. Learning to accept failures as inevitable steps towards success: Finally, optimists learn to accept failures for what they are – part and parcel of life, must-haves for future success, learning opportunities, bitter medicine: tough to swallow and yet necessary for good health. Choose whichever description you like but remember not to get bogged down the next time you fail.OTA Chennai Cadets

Always remember this one thing when you feel low or less motivated; It has been billions of billion years since earth came into existence and it will last for another billions of years while you’re gone. Your life of approx 70 years (in India) is just less than that of a drop of water in the ocean. No one will remember you as a negative person but will surely do as an optimist who had influence on their lives. So, ask yourselves to be happy in this very fragment of the life of earth because life is too small to be sad.

Come on, smile now, time is running out!

Hello Warriors! Many a times when we feel like demotivated for joining the armed forces, we look up to our fathers, uncles or relatives who are serving/had served in the armed forces for inspiration; while some others look up to the passing out parades of the academies. Life of APJ Abdul Kalam In Brief

0
APJ_Abdul_Kalam

Writing this one amidst huge grief. The 27th day of July 2015, will sadly be remembered as one of the black days India has seen. With the dawn arrived the news of a terror attack in Gurdaspur and before midnight we saw the Missile Man of India flying away in the sky. The flood of messages related our beloved late president, show how much he was loved and the grief which surrounds the country.

It is rare indeed to see the good done by men living after them. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was not just a scientist, or the former president, he was a visionary, a hard worker, a common man whose work and thoughts made him rare, a teacher imparting knowledge to everyone, a philosopher conveying the way of life, a preacher who practiced first, a leader who set an example, a citizen who inspires every fellow being to be like him, a writer with real stories. A Superhero in a true sense.

Dr. PJ Abdul Kalam, born and raised in Rameshwaram, was the son of a boat man. Struggling in his early days, he did everything possible to learn and get educated. He tried and failed in his attempt of becoming a pilot in Air Force, and then started his career as a scientist, being one of the finest world has produced. A student of physics and aerospace engineering, he spend major portion of his career working as a scientist in ISRO and DRDO. He was pivotal in Integrated Guided Missiles Development Program (IGMDP), under which ballistic missiles such as Agni and Prithvi were developed. He played a crucial role in Pokhran-II nuclear tests. Not only in physics, he has a contribution in health care as well.

APJ_Abdul_Kalam

Dr. Kalam was elected as the 11th president of India in 2002. During his tenure he was affectionately known as People’s President, a title well deserved considering his concerns and reach regarding common people.

The Missile Man loved to teach, and taught technology and imparted knowledge in a number of colleges. Not only science, he was a master in giving life teachings as well, bestowing doctrines of life on people. Today the internet is filled with his quotes and teachings, which were not said specifically on any occasion, but every word coming out of his mouth was like a teaching. He received a great number of awards due to his consummate contribution in science. He received the highest civilian honour of “Bharat Ratna”, in 1997, a veritable Bharat ratna indeed. A notable writer, whose books reflected his unparalleled personality.

Now that he is no more amongst us, it is just his body that has taken abode of heaven. His thoughts and work will live forever. His focus on education and learning needs to be followed by us, the generation next in which he believed. A true respect can only be paid if we live his mission of development and putting all our efforts in whatever we can do best. There lies a hero in all of us, Dr. Kalam is an example, which inspires us to awaken that hero and work. He believed in innovation and definitely young minds are full of ideas, just focus in the right direction to shape them and then you’ll be truly paying homage to the great man.

Quoting a tweet “So the moral of the story is superheroes die too, all you got to do is make sure that their superpowers don’t”
