How To Write Good Stories In PPDT

2
thematic-apperception-test-tat

PPDT is the test that is conducted on the very first day of SSB screening day where the major crowd is eliminated. Hence the screening day is called the rejection day also which eliminates the nonserious crowd of the people who visit the SSB.  This round is conducted after the aptitude /written test. This test has two parts:

  1. The first part is where aspirants needs to write the story where certain things are expected and a complete story is needed at the end
  2. This part has a detailed discussion on the basis of the stories written by the individual where each one in the group is first provided with the opportunity of narrating the individual stories and then the GD happens in the group. How to perform in the GD can be seen in my previous article.

In this portion we will see how to write best in stories as there are few expectations from the side of examiners that needs to be fulfilled. Also whosoever survives in this round only gets a chance to stay for four more days and live the complete life at SSB. The following might be helpful when aspirants prepare for these rounds:

  • Utilize the 30 second given to frame the context in which you story will lie and your hero survives. This time is sufficient to do so, so utilize wisely.
  • Also in PPDT you need to fill a box provided in the answer sheet with the exact replica of the picture you percept. This is also important because knowingly the picture shown to you is made hazy which makes it difficult for everyone to percept in their own way.
  • Here only the psychologist quickly judges aspirant on the basis of thinking and ability of viewing a material. This haziness only makes stories different for different people and brings interest while doing GD where everyone fights for getting their own stories accepted by the group.
  • A title needs to be defined for the given picture. Remember that title if read should be such which tells the complete essence of your story. So design the title carefully.
  • Now the main work of writing the story starts where it is expected that the aspirant will describe the following :
    • Age
    • Sex
    • Character
    • Mood
    • Past of the story which led to the present scene
    • Present scene description and what happens in and around
    • Future that will happen
    • Hero should be there
    • General description
  • While drawing the replica in the box instruction of the assessor should be correctly followed and do listen how he/she describes the markings that needs to be done.
  • Write stories genuinely and mention essential facts.

Do’s And Don’ts For WAT In SSB

Do’s And Don’ts For WAT In SSB

WAT is the second test conducted during the process of psychology during SSB. This test is assumed to be the toughest one as the time available to attempt the test is very limited. This condition is kept because the test intends to judge the real self of the person by making sentences through the process of flashing of words.

The TAT might be a easy test as sufficient time is given for writing and thinking of the stories but in WAT each word is flashed for 15 seconds in which the aspirant needs to see the word and write the sentence based on it. In this process a series of 60 words are shown one after the other. Please follow the following which might help in performing the best:

  1. You should write your first reaction to the word and the thought that comes to your mind. The idea is to see the reaction of the taker towards the positive and the negative words that come in a prearranged sequence.
  2. I suggest prepare beforehand for this test as you will get no time to think over there. If you try to think then you will miss on the word which is again not a good indication.
  3. Try to attempt all the words as missing a word creates a wrong impression in the minds of the examiner.
Do’s And Don’ts For WAT In SSB
  4. Practice beforehand to see what you right and see whether you are able to deliver your qualities which should be implied and not directly written.
  5. Never try to use word like I, and other truth that are widely known. You are not a new person to tell such things again.
  6. Try building habit of seeing words and using it in a sense of making sentences that could really bring your perceived qualities or yourself in sentences. Remember this is not a sentence making competition where you just form sentences and you expect to get selected.
  7. Always get your psychology assessed by experts who can devote time all alone with you as through all the psychology tests you are showing yourself not the other person, so even if you get some wonderfully formed sentences from somewhere or from a sample copy they might not benefit you as they are not closer to yourself. This can be a dangerous case and can backfire you.
  8. Try to show positivity in sentences and try to reveal your aim of life, benefit you cause and your strengths only.
Keep practicing high for psychology as this forms the toughest part of SSB which seems to be simple but is really a tough one. Still if you have doubts hovering your mind and need personalised mentoring for preparation or want to resolve any dilemma related to SSB drop me a mail at [email protected]or add me on facebuk and drop the query in the message . It would be a pleasure to help you in this journey towards your dream.

How To Perform Well In PPDT Narration

3
ppdt picture

PPDT is a first day exam held at SSB on screening day. It is held after the OIR test which has aptitude questions to answer. The test of PPDT is perception based evaluation where you need to write a story based on a hazy picture shown on the screen and based on it you need to define the characters, action and other parameters. Now this seems to be an easy task as story writing that too based on a picture, but believe me it’s not. The major rejection that happens in a SSB is on the day of Screening only where all non serious candidates or the people who have not done properly are eliminated. Hence it’s the most important round for any aspirant because good performance here sustains you at SSB for four more days.

How To Perform Well In PPDT Narration

So start preparing well for this round first, and once you gain confidence then only move ahead. Preparation for PPDT and TAT in psychology is same with few minor differences. The following way of preparing can help you sail through easily with this round of SSB:
  • Practice narration beforehand as sufficient time is given after writing the stories and starting of GD, so utilise it to the fullest.
  • Remember what have you written and keep it in your mind as to what can be told to officers when individual narration option is given.
  • Individual narration is the best opportunity to utilise your chance to reveal your qualities and showcase your strength.
    ppdt
  • Once the group discussion starts in PPDT always try to look for the common story and remove from mind that only your story should be accepted.
  • Practice at home the way the original exam is conducted as it can save you from getting nervous.
  • Try to showcase your qualities in the story and don’t think it as a story writing competition where usage of good words or wonderful phrases might get you a award. Such stories might be neglected if the real essence is missing.
  • Practice deeply at home and try to narrate the story in one minute. Remember the instruction given clearly specifies that in a limited amount of time you have to narrate. Don’t allow the examiner to say NEXT which means that you have crossed the given time and it creates the worst impression and could even be your chance for being thrown out in screening.
  • Remember SSB is so individualistic that relying on books and such material can only guide you how to do things. If you use the same theme in your personal story without revealing yourself and you qualities, it can adversely affect your selection.
Always work under expert if you lack knowledge in a field and don’t become part of large groups during guidance as they can only give suggestions but cannot solve your problems and deal in with your queries personally. Still if you are in a dilemma or need personalised mentoring for any query, drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on facebook and drop your query in a message. Looking forward to help you.

Preparation Needed Before The Interview

Preparation Needed Before The Interview

Serving in defence forces is not just the a job its more than that. It’s offering the service to the motherland and to protect it from any intrusion. We should analyse ourself that is that what we want to achieve ourself, because Defence is not a place where you go for a luxury life, respect, or earning money. This needs complete devotion and that is what checked through the process of SSB. We need to analyse ourself deeply so that we can reveal the truth in SSB and reveal what our original personality is. This analysis will definitely help aspirants for psychometric examinations that is held at SSB.

Especially the PI is a wonderful exercise where you need to revisit your life along with the interviewer visiting different phases, studying problems of life and celebrating the success moments. The following analysis beforehand can be fruitful for preparation:

  • How do I tend to spend my time and utilise it?
  • Where do I see myself in future and what work pleases me?
  • How good am I in time management?
  • Am I helping others with dedication?
    Officers-Training-Academy
  • What are the types of people I love to spend time with?
  • What are the qualities that I appreciate in such people?
  • How do my friends react to me and what are their comments on me for my preparation?
  • What are my hobbies that please me to spend time?
  • What’s that thing which i love to do and I am best at?
  • How do my parents look at me and what improvement they want in my personality? Actually parents are really a good source to gather your weakness as they would reveal the reality. So don’t bang your head in creating your fake weaknesses which are easily called off, just ask you parents this question and you will get the best answer.
  • Recreation time spent in what?
  • Do I love sports and which one? Why do i appreciate this sports and what’s special about it?
  • Am I interested in the happenings in the world and how do I realise what improvements can be brought and what could be the possible role I can play?
There are lot of things that needs to be done and prior preparation and guidance can save you in increasing your attempts which unnecessarily creates stress in mind. If you really know your mistakes in the previous attempts then analyse them and improve because they look for perfection in SSB and something less than that does not actually work. Look for a mentor who can guide you individually not in a group as you are all together a different person with different set of qualities. How can you be taught  in a group where all different set of people are sitting. Want to know more about yourself, get yourself assessed or want to resolve your queries, just drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on facebook and drop queries in message. Hope to help you satisfactorily in this journey of perfection and success towards your goal.

The Unforgettable Event Of My Life, Recommended For Indian Navy (Pilot)

0

Hello everyone! I am Ayan, recommended for Indian Navy (Pilot). It is my immense pleasure to share with you my success story. I am thankful to Almighty God, my parents and my friends who kept inspiring me. I would also like to thank SSB Crack where I learnt so much about the SSB process. In my first 2 attempts I was screened out and which was a huge disappointment for me, especially the first one because it was for the Flying branch in Air Force. That was my first and last attempt for Flying Branch as from next entries I was not eligible. I was feeling down as I was seeing my dreams of flying in the sky getting drowned. There was hardly any day when I didn’t think about what I missed in my life. I used to pray to the God that if only I could get one more chance.

Ten months later, the God fulfilled my prayers. I went through an advertisement from the Indian Navy and I was overjoyed to see it because it was for the flying branch as a pilot and I was eligible. I saw my dreams reviving. I filled the form without wasting a moment and sent my application to Navy HQ. I was shortlisted and called for the SSB at 12SSB Bangalore. The date was 22nd June and the reporting time was 1400 hours at Bangalore City Junction (SBC). The way of my preparation was I brainstormed to bring out the major events I have had in my life and the major decisions I had taken. I knew in interview these things have high probability of being discussed. Also I started making opinions about my present job like why I like it and what I would like to change about it. Also just 2 days before leaving for the SSB, I practiced the Verbal and Non- Verbal question for the intelligence test. I am currently working in a private company so I maintained a decent routine for my days so that being organized and being disciplined reflects in my attitude. Rest my job had taught me well how to take charge of the things and be a leader to execute them properly.
Recommended For Indian Navy

D-Day: I reached Bangalore on the same day in the morning and went to my friends place, freshened up and reached SBC. Just outside the station a huge crowd was waiting. Then the vehicles came and it took us to the selection center. There we were greeted by the CHM saab and the tester JCO saab. Then usual form filling was done. After that we were allotted our chest numbers, chest number 1 to chest number 140. In the evening an officer came and welcomed us and briefed us about dos and don’ts, the facilities we can use and the next day procedure. Then we were taken to our lines and from there we headed the mess. We all had our dinner and came back and went to the bed. The next day the reporting time was 0630 hours, so almost everyone woke up by 4 and started getting ready.
D+1 Day: Next day the first round was Intelligence Test and it continued for somewhere around 2 hours. The test was simple and I could do more than 95% of the questions. After that, it was the turn of PPDT. The picture shown was very hazy and I could only see 3 identifiable big spots on the screen. Somehow I managed to write down whatever came to my mind in about 10 lines. Before discussion we were supposed to narrate our stories one by one. I narrated very well and it was also much better than the last two times. While we were waiting outside before the Discussion test started, I had gone away from the group and practiced speaking out my story to myself. I tried that for 5-6 times and I think it helped me a lot in a fluent narration. As soon as the discussion started, it went out of control. I tried to speak my point 2-3 times but then the situation was such that I thought not to add the count of shouting people. And in just one minute, the GTO (one among 4 officers) told us, “get up and get out”. We had our lunch and then an officer came to announce our results and he gave a motivational speech. Although initially I was very nervous in the morning owing to my result in my last attempts, I gained some confidence because of the intelligence test and my narration. The results were announced and yes I was in. I WAS IN. 35 candidates were screened in. I was happy for myself and my new friends who made it but was sad at the same time for those who couldn’t. In the evening we went out and timing was 1430 hours to 1830 hours.
D+2 Day: The next day testing started with psychology. The first test was TAT followed by WAT, SRT and SD. In TAT, I couldn’t write one story. In WAT, I could do around 50 and in SRT I could do only 42. For SD we were given 15 minutes. In the afternoon I had my interview. The interview was totally about my past, present, education and the people associated with me. I answered everything very confidently and spoke the truth. But sometimes you need to cook stories on the spot to justify yourself, happened with me :P. At the end of the day I was having a mixed feeling. I felt I wrote very good stories but I was afraid about the story I hadn’t written. Response in SRT, WAT were normal as I have read many experience with same kind of response. The interview was also great as I answered the questions very well but there were many questions which I skipped (Actually the IO was asking a series of questions and then in your turn you have to answer them)
D+3, D+4 Day: So the next day was the day for GTO. Our day started with scolding from the GTO as none of us had done shaving properly. Anyways the first task was GD. Even in one of the two GDs, we got another round of scolding for drifting off the topic. But then after that we managed to get back on track. Next was GPE. My plan that I had written was literally shit. It didn’t have any plan at all but thanks to the discussion, we discussed and made a really good plan. Next were PGT, snake race, HGT, IO and lecture. In lecture, I could only speak for 2 mins and after that I had nothing to say but I stood there trying and thinking and then returned after concluding as I heard the warning bell. Also during PGT, I got scolded many a times by the GTO. But the next day was a surprise for me. We had our CT left. During my turn the, I felt the GTO talked with me for a really long time as compared to others. He was asking about my parents, my job, my earlier attempts in SSB and the NDA exam I had cleared but couldn’t attend the SSB. We really had a very long discussion about the naval ships, then types of air craft carriers in Navy and the difference between them, about WWII and he also suggested me some movies to watch. Then he gave me a very simple task which I was able to finish in couple of minutes with the help of my team mates. Then we had our FGT. So at the end of day I was having positive vibes.
D+5 Day: The next day was the conference day. I was nervous. They simply asked me about what are my thoughts about my performance and how will I improve them for the next time and what rating would I give myself. I gave myself 7 but later many people told that you should always rate yourself full. They asked about the stay and any suggestions to which I replied I had a very pleasant stay and no suggestions. When the result was announced I was overjoyed by the fact that after getting screened out twice I made it straight to the recommendation. I felt really proud of myself to hear my name among the 3 people recommended. But then had to say goodbye to all the new friends I had made. Next in my mind was the journey to 2AFSB Mysore for PABT.
We 3 took rest for a few days and then we reached Mysore on Monday evening. The test was supposed to take place the next day (PABT takes place on every Tuesday in Mysore). So we were given a room in candidates’ line in AFSB. The next day, for the PABT we were joined by 16 more screened in candidates from AFSB and as I was earlier screened out from AFSB, this time I got the opportunity to stay in AFSB too ;). In the first part of test which was a written test, 4 among the AF candidates couldn’t qualify. The next was machine test. All 3 of us qualified it, don’t know about the AF candidates as we were told our results separately and were sent back immediately. So we returned happily and from the next day the medicals were supposed to start.
Getting recommended for flying branch is a huge turning point in my life. It helped me forget the pain I faced every single day for not being able to succeed.
What I think was the reason of success, I wrote the stories in which I presented myself in front of the reviewers (thanks to the brainstorming I did). I told the IO what I really am. I simply told him that I want to improve my current affairs and there was no question from him on that at all. After continuously getting scolded by the GTO, I kept trying and didn’t show any mark of disappointment, at least to him. My only suggestion to the aspiring candidates is be aware what you are inside and what you have done in your life. This is what they want to know.
I hope my experience will help the fresher in getting some idea about the procedure. If you want to know anything more about the process you can contact me at: [email protected]

How To Perform Well In UES Entry College Rounds

1

UES entry is the most coveted entry seeks after by the defence aspirants because of its multiple advantages that it offers to the person who gets selected through this entry. This entry allows you to apply in the pre final year and provides a golden chance to be the part of Indian defence forces. This entry allows you to enter any of the force of your choice. Navy and army approves candidates of pre final year through college rounds where the teams of the defence forces visits various selected campuses to select youth and send them directly to the SSB.

Each level the aspirant is judged on numerous parameters through various rounds but the most important parameter to judge is the psychology of the aspirant. The college team conducts GD/ PI depending on the number of applicants and apart from judging on the various parameters and basic etiquettes of these rounds the psychology of the candidate is judged. The following pointers can be helpful in preparation:

  • Prepare for GD thoroughly and pick up the latest topics. Prepare them well. Also few topics that are related to social evils can also help aspirants as they are most sought after by the college team of forces.
  • How to do well in GD can be looked in my previous article for the same. Also try not to dominate, just try to put forth your ideas and views on the topics and what suggestion you can offer for the improvement as a responsible youth for the country.
    UES Entry
  • Always quote examples that could be relate to the topics which always attract attention of the examiners and tells them that you prefer being in touch with the latest happenings and also reveals you capability to link up things.
  • Follow the instructions given by the examiner as they can immediately stop discussion and ask to summarise or conclude from any individual so don’t feel left out be with the group so that even if you don’t get chance, you can show up your talent.
  • PI has a simple funda that you have to reveal your personal qualities to the maximum and should never be fake at any step. Remember it’s better to say than to cook up false stories and get negative marks.
  • Do take up mocks and prepare thoroughly before attempting any of the college rounds. Try to look for a person who can mentor you individually motivating you for the final stint of SSB. Working in large groups might not help gaining confidence in psychology rounds.
  • SSB is not an easy game to play where hit and trial works. No, here you are judged rigorously at every point so don’t go there with a hope of trial and looking the world .always appear when you are satisfied with your preparation.
Prepare well and utilize this chance of UES entry to know where you stand in crowd. Though there will be many opportunities later but it’s better to achieve your goal earlier and even if not getting through, you will realise your weak areas and course of future action. Still if you have any doubt or need individualised help for preparation or to resolve queries feel free to drop me a mail at [email protected]Lets cover the success path together.

SSB: Think Positive To Live Your Dream Of Defence

SSB: Think Positive To Live Your Dream Of Defence
Already thought of joining Indian defence services?  Alas… You are on the right path. Indian defence is one of the best services one could opt for being in India. It is a place where you could live for your country and think of serving and protecting its rights. Being surrounded by neighbours who do not tend to have good relations with our country it’s the need of time. Every youth want to contribute to its motherland but the real right is bestowed to the defence personnel’s only.

They are the real heroes and have the power to do so. If you want to be one, identify the need of service for motherland in your heart and brain and then move ahead. SSB a wonderful 5 day stint and the gateway to be an officer with Indian defence requires a synchronisation between your body, heart and mind. You should have the following:

  • Always think positive and even develop the competency of looking the positives or at least appreciating the positives for even the negative things.
  • The protection of motherland never gives another chance to think what’s next? Think coordinated with your mind, body and soul working together and you should not be a confused personality and should be ready to take decisions instantaneously.
  • No duality of thought should exist. You should be very clear for the path you have to traverse and act like a leader because many lives will depend on you.
  • The parameters are stringent and are not changed for anyone. So don’t feel that any random noise will work for you there. Luck does not play its role at SSB. Only proper preparation can save your day.
    OTA Chennai
Don’t be afraid of working hard. Smart ways usually does not work in SSB as its a competency based psychological assessment which is a very developed technique to test the real of you.
The mantra for success is the positivity one carries in life. You are tested to look how positive one can be in adverse situations. Positivity changes way of thinking and can convert an adverse situation into a good one. This is a tested formula and yes it has worked for years for the defence personnel’s in acquiring the right talent. The officers that get recommended not only have a different approach to look at situations but are daring enough to think differently than the so called “civilians”. You should have a positive thought process and it should be developed since the inception. Be happy in every situation you face. The thought process of positivity is something that takes time to build in and it cannot be developed immediately when you get a SSB call. Start preparing and changing the mindset now as time is flying off. If you need help in knowing the ways or in preparation through mentorship do send your queries to me at [email protected] . You can also add me on facebook and drop queries through message. It would be a pleasure to help budding future officers.

Why SSB Is A Lifetime Experience?

Why SSB Is A Lifetime Experience?

This article will take many of the veterans of SSB, down the memory lane and to those who are yet to experience this golden moment; it will provide an account of what they will be going to experience. So as we know SSB is the biggest hurdle you have to cross in order to become an officer in the forces. Or it would be more appropriate to say that if you want to become an officer you have to clear SSB. It is said to be the trickiest and most difficult interview in the world to crack, simply because it monitors your personality and your suitability from every aspect. In the end whether you get recommended or not, you always have something to gain. I can very confidently say that the five days at SSB teach you a lot more about life, than any school/college can in an year’s time. SSB is not just an interview to crack in order to get a job, it is much more than that. It is a well proven fact that everything teaches you something beneficial. SSB is no different.

From the moment you receive the call letter, a lot of things change. Since your dream is to clear the SSB and become an officer, so you never want to leave any stone unturned in order to reach your goal. So as soon as you receive the call letter you start collecting information about the SSB. What all is done there, how you can succeed etc. Thus begins the change. Since you collect information about SSB, you learn a lot of things. You learn to develop your personality overall, to do things which you might have never done before. Right from the physical fitness regime you start, to the regular newspaper reading habit, from the oratory skills to the quest to know yourself more, every aspect helps you to develop your personality better.

Why SSB Is A Lifetime Experience

Once you are done with your preparation and go for the SSB, you meet a lot of new people. People from across the country, different regions, and different cultures, all united under the similar dream of achieving the uniform. Once you meet new people you again get a lot of things to learn from them. Then the stay at SSB, everything in discipline. You get a chance to see the life of Fauj from the closest view (for the civilian aspirants). The tasks you perform there teach you teamwork. Every exercise conducted helps you to get to know yourself more.
Everything in SSB helps you to know more about yourself, know your strengths, your weaknesses, how to overcome and enhance them. The friends you make are priceless, since you spend every single moment with them, without any phone, without any other distraction. You learn a lot about yourself, about the world, about people. And in the end if you get recommended it is like cherry on the cake. All you need to do is give your best and put in all the efforts to perform well. Definitely SSB will be few of the golden days of your life. A must have experience which you’ll always cherish!
