Medicals Experience at AFCME (New Delhi)

1
AFCME Medical Test Full Procedure

Hi all. This blog is about my experience at AFCME(New Delhi). We had a briefing there about what all documents would be required and soon all the students were taken to the registration desk. We were given accommodation in Camero officer’s mess.

The medical examination takes 3-4 “working days” at AFCME Delhi. Please make sure that there is no holiday within 3 days of the date you choose for the medicals.
PS: I had to wait for 2 days for my medical conference (Saturday and Sunday) though all the tests were over.
Now let me share my own experience.
Day 1:
The first 2-3 hours was spent in form filling and after that we (group of 5) were asked to wait in the cafeteria. After some time we were called for document verifications. After the verification was over, the following things were noted down:
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Chest
That’s all.
The hospital timings were upto 3:00 pm so after that we went back to the Camero officer’s mess where we were given accommodation.
Day 2:
The following tests were done on the second day.
  • Ultrasound: We were asked to report at 7:00 am without having anything for breakfast. Ultrasound
    SSB+Interview+medical+letter

was the first test that day to check for any abnormalities (fatty liver problem is very common for those who eat oily foods or drink alcohol)

  • Blood Test: If your weight is normal then the blood sample would be taken only once but if it’s not (over weight/underweight), you will be made to drink a glass of glucose and then come back after 2 hours to give the sample again. (This is to check whether your body is able to break down glucose effectively or not). PS: Since I was “only” 17 kgs over weight, I had to give the sample twice.
  • X-Ray: We were asked to stand, sit, and lie down in different positions to check for any broken or abnormality in the bone structure of the body. (In this case there were few candidates who had a problem with the elbow angle)
  • Eye test: This is the most time exhausting test of all. The following are the tests which were done  to check our eyes
  • Color Combination: We were asked to stand in a dark room and there was a lantern with a hole in it. Colors were flashed through the hole and we were asked to identify the color. There were three colors: Red, green and white. This test is to check for the color blindness. PS: White color might appear as yellow and I did say yellow for the first time and then I was asked by the officer to calm down and answer patiently. Probably it was because of the excitement.
  • Distant Vision: This one is a routine test and we were made to read letters which were placed at a distance of 20 meters.
  • Pupil Dilation: We were given an eye drop and asked to put them in our eyes thrice at an interval of 15 minutes so that our pupil gets dilated to the fullest. After an hour we were called one by one and our eyes were tested with an instrument they had. PS: After putting the eye drops you wouldn’t be able to see clearly for the next 2 hours or so. And do take sun glasses to the hospital as you might be asked to go back to the mess after this test in the sunlight (This is what happened to us and trust me it was very difficult to even open our eyes.) With this the second day ended and we went back to our mess.
Day 3:
ENT
  • Ear: There was some pressure check in the ear and after that we were given a head phone and a bell. We were asked to press the bell each time we heard a beep through the ear phone. The beeps were of varying frequencies and some were very faint and therefore one needs to be extremely careful during this test.
  • PS: Get your ear wax removed before going for the medicals otherwise they wouldn’t even let you take this test. This will extend your stay at the AFCME and waste your time.
  • Ear, nose and throat: The entire normal checkup was done and then we went for lunch in the cafeteria.
  • Surgical: Now comes the part which all of us were praying didn’t take place. Anyways it did and the following is what happened. We were asked to take off our shirts and trousers and wait for our turn. We were called inside a room one by one and were examined by a doctor. Knock knees, B.P, any surgery marks and private parts were examined by the doctor.
  • Dental: We were taken to a different hospital for the dental checkup as the experts are not available at AFCME. They check for proper number of dental points and if there is any abnormality. In our group  a guy was declared unfit because he had open bite or close bite.
  • ECG: This took 5-10 minutes.Sitting length, thigh length (for flying branch  only). This was our last test and it was over within 15 minutes.
Medicals Experience At AFCME (New Delhi)
The time was 2:45 pm and since our files could not be compiled in such a short span of time (the President leaves at 3:00 pm) we were told that our medical conference will be held on the next working day. And since I did not have much idea I had chosen Wednesday as my date and hence we all had to wait till Monday for the results.
On Monday we had our conference at 11:00 am. I was given TR for the following reasons:
  • Over weight
  • Deranged LFT
  • Right eye myopic (6/9)
PS: The myopic thing was a human error and I was told by the president that I would clear it in the appeal medical board.
So I applied for the appeal medical board and I got a call exactly after 30 days and had to report at the base hospital. In the 30 days, I had reduced 17 kgs and since the other two problems were minor (maybe error also) were also solved.
I was declared medically fit for all the branches of IAF.
Advice:
  • Be patient as you might have to wait for even hours for your turn to come.
  • Listen to the instructions carefully otherwise you might piss off the doctors which is not good for you.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I find it to be an immense pleasure to share my SSB experiences with you all. Firstly I would like to thank the Almighty God, my family for their blessings and the faith my family had on me; i would also like to thank SSB CRACK for it helped me in providing important tips related to the whole SSB process and of course the guest posts column which motivated me at each step to realize my dream. I hope that the experience that I have gained giving all the SSBs should be put to good use and provide important information to the defense aspirants.

Of course the whole journey to the recommendations is not all smooth. Before these 3 recommendations, i was conference out in NDA SSB and then we (my brother and me) forgot to fill up the forms for the next NDA. By the time we realized this; we were quite late and so dropped the idea and moved on to complete engineering. But one thing that got all over my mind after rejection is about joining defense services only and the rejection provided me the impetus and made me focused towards it.
I filled up the form for Air Force, gave AFCAT (went & scored well) and got call for SSB on 9th Dec., 2013, Dehradun. The desire to again go to the SSB and correct all my previous mistakes was quite intense and i prepared for each and every event of the SSB well enough as a result of which i felt quite confident, optimistic since the time I sat foot on the Dehradun platform. Ladies and Gentlemen believe me, if you have a strong preparation, then no matter what happens, you will never be able to lose your cool and confidence. Another thing is that for Air Force SSBs, do have your well updated CV along with the important certificates that you’ve earned in school or college with you, they ask for it just before the interview.

At the SSB center, Dehradun, my GD of the first stage went well; I spoke 2-3 times and was contented with

ssb+interview+batch

my performance. A helpful tip is that don’t point out other members of the group when asked whom you will nominate to conclude the discussion, instead nominate yourself since it shows your confidence and imitativeness. The verbal and non verbal tests were somewhat tricky wherein I felt that I could have improved. There is always scope of improvement which can be achieved by practicing the questions back at home and tackling the problems in an efficient manner so as to waste no time fumbling at the questions. So, with the blessings and hard work, I got in and felt quite relieved. Later I was allotted room with the freshers & I was the only repeater in that room and it was a good thing because I made a lot of good friends.

The next day, before the psychology tests, I along with the fellow gentlemen were called for the PABT (despite spectacled, I decided to fill up for pilot so as to give and have the experience of the once in a lifetime test: the PABT. Even the officer also asked me regarding my choice to give PABT). After PABT, the psychology tests were held which went well. I was able to complete all TATs, WATs and SRTs well in time. The trick that lies in SRTs is that the conclusion of all the situations, if thought of carefully, are somewhat related to each other. Also in SRTs, your focus should be on the action that you’ve taken and don’t create imaginary scenarios. About TATs, they are quite easy to write upon and of course, the outcome has to be positive and with a message. In WAT, be natural and also in some cases, you may face some words which are repeated, so it is important to write the same sentences for the such words as it shows stability of mind. Self Description should be written with honesty in a clear format as you will find questions related around your Self Description.
The next day & day after it, Group Tasks were held. Since in my group all were repeaters, so GD and GPE went quite heated. To some degree, fierce; but still I was able to put up my points. An important tip is that if you have a good point in GDs or GPE, then don’t wait for the “CHANCE”, because no one will give it to you unless you happens to be a kind of person who hasn’t spoken for the whole time and out of pity, others members of the group and as well as the officer points him/her out to speak; don’t let that happen to you because it will definitely dim your chances to a large extent. Everyone comes to the SSB to make his/her career, so don’t keep on waiting for the right moment, the whole moment is the right moment for you. In GPE, after putting your points, try to nominate yourself for giving the conclusion (if nominated, clearly include timings and number of person performing a particular task while you tell the officer and the other members of the group the GPE conclusion). In FGT, PGT & HGT if you have an idea, then only go to the front, otherwise it will be just wastage of time. IO, I was able to complete 8. Of course higher the numbers of tasks, more points you get, but try not to do which you can’t do. It’s important to leave a task which you cannot do than to go for it and then retracting from it mid-way, clearly irritating the GTO and reducing your chance of selection. Command task is important and during the task, try to be interactive by continuously motivating your subordinates and thinking smartly to overcome the obstacle. The timings should also be taken be taken care of. Lecturette is all about the practice. Do as many as you can before coming for SSB.
The next day was my interview. The officer was very friendly and good natured. The first thing he told me after I settled down on the chair that “This is not an interview, just a formal discussion”. He asked me about AWACS, I was not able to give the answer properly, he said “The general knowledge can be learnt, anyways lets go over to you”. Then he asked about me, friends, family, girlfriend and Sunday schedule (last question). An essential tip related to the interview is that don’t ever try to brag, lie and being over smart during interview. The officer knows everything about it and will catch you no matter what counter measure you take afterwards. Also try to learn about the organization that you are going into. GK is also equally important (both about the organization & the about the general country/world news). I was pretty confident of getting recommended after the interview. The next day was free, if your interview takes place in between or at the end of the SSB, then it’s better to go out, watch places, note them down and a gather some information about them as they will help you in interview and in the conference.
The final day was the conference, it took a reasonable time before I was called in, a few basic questions related to the stay, food, places and that’s all. Later on the result was declared. Before the main result, PABT result was declared and I along with many others cleared that exam. For the main result, i was already hopeful of getting in and so I was called in at 4th place, felt very happy, thanked God. Total 6 out of 80 were selected. Later on we were taken for form filling which was hectic as it took us 6 hours. We dined at AFSB mess and then we were taken to bus stop from where we boarded to our home. We were given the date for the medicals as AFCME.
For all those who wanted to know my AFCAT score, its 185. I believe that regular practice of the mock papers, previous year papers and you can easily raise your score above 200/250. Moreover, regarding coaching, I haven’t taken any, I won’t restrict you to take/don’t take coaching but I will just say that it’s all about the right attitude which if you have, then nothing can stop you.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this ends the first part of my SSB experience. I will be posting about my Navy SSB experience soon. Wish you all the best for the SSBs. Any queries related to SSB, you can mail it to me at: [email protected].

No, absolutely not, I am not going to bore you for the next 15 to 30 minutes, depends entirely on your reading speed. You would find plenty of experiences on SSBCRACK of course, so I just tried to deviate a bit, I sat on to write something related to my SSB interview and when I completed it, I gave a look at the bottom of the laptop, and I had already written 14 pages covering over 3300 words, no of course don’t go after the stats, just sit back and enjoy my journey…

“ Dear,  Rahul Pareek, report at NSB Agrani, Coimbatore at 6000hrs on 05 may 2014”.
Yes I had received the call letter for attending the much awaited SSB interview for 10+2(Btech) finally. When everything goes fine, there is something which will try to oppose your flow, the same happened in this case and my externals were scheduled from 5th May itself. Now I had two options, attend the interview for getting into the life that I have always dreamt of or attend the externals. And then I thought, five ‘Fs’ in the mark sheet would not be so beautiful but if it is engraved on it for attending the SSB interview then it is quite acceptable.
5:08 AM, and 12626 Kerala Express reached the Coimbatore Station (2 minutes before time!!).
One more day, and the NSB correspondents will come and take us to the NSB. So had one day, enough time to use and explore the city, by then I had met three more SSB aspirants who were also there for the interview, we booked a room in a hotel, nearby to the station. We went through the city temples, restaurants to have a taste of the Tamilian food, as I always love to have a break from the routine food. The place was quite good, people too (please don’t raise your eyebrows!!) and worth mention Rachin, Saksham and Nitish made the pre-SSB day quite fun.
DAY 1
Sharp at 6 AM, the NSB bus came down to the Coimbatore station to take all of us to the centre. I roughly guessed the number of candidates arrived, they were around 100-150. Their faces could be easily read, as the next five days were going to decide their, I mean “our” fate.
Reached NSB Agrani, a formal environment started getting built up, may be because all of us were asked to immediately change into formals, luckily I was in it already. We were made to stand in a line by the duty CHM and chest numbers were allotted to us, I was chest no. 49, then our documents were verified and then we were sent to the dining room to have our breakfast. There I came to know that total 91 candidates were going to face the first stage of the SSB Interview, scheduled to be held the same day itself.
Gyan  1: Please do bring all your documents as mentioned in the call letter, to avoid returning back home, it really causes embarrassment.
SCREENING TEST
We were asked to stand in a queue and then move inside a large auditorium. There we were handed over the TA and the identification form, after which the Screening test started.
Officer Intelligence Rating Test
The first series of test that was to be administered was a verbal and non-verbal test collectively known as OIR. It was scheduled at 8:30 AM, the tests were quite easy and I was able to do 45 of 50 questions in the first half and 47 of 50 in the other. So the test was quite good.
Gyan 2: Do only those questions that you know well, don’t waste time on the questions that appear difficult. I did the same thing.
PPDT
After that we were briefed about the PPDT. The picture shown was quite blurred as I had read everywhere on SSBCRACK, you would not be able to figure out the exact image just use it to stimulate your mind and write the story in time, with a hero in it, mentioning the past, present and the future of the picture.
I wrote a story of a social worker who was helping the poor and uneducated people to get educated and be a responsible citizen of the country. Gave positive qualities of the hero, and concluded positively.
Followed by this, we were assembled for the group discussion, 15 in a group, we sat in the Ante room, in front of 3 officers, but we were asked not to look at the officers in any case. I was quite confident as I had already done some GD in my college and had a good command on English. First we had to narrate our story and then discuss on it. I narrated the story confidently with eye contact with all the group members. Then the GD started, I initiated it, appreciated a few chest numbers whose narration and story I liked, the discussion was really good as all of us were active in it except a few. Though we could not bring down a conclusion, but discussed well and were very near to it. One of the 3 officers ended the GD and appreciated it.
Gyan 3:
  • Try to write a story related to your own life or the life which is very near to you.
  • Be imaginative, add positive qualities as at the end of the day, it’s your qualities that you are tested for.
  • In the GD, narrate your story, coolly and calmly, with proper English and confidence. Try to appreciate others, if possible initiate the GD and try to keep the GD cool in the house.
  • Do not make stories confined to army, navy or airforce. Many did it, and it acted upon them negatively.

After having lunch, we were again asked to stand in the queues, as the result for the stage I testing was to be announced. I was quite nervous inside but confident outside, I really did not want to return back the same day and somewhere down I was sure, that I will get screened in.
“Gentlemen, here I announce the name of the screened in candidates of stage I.
Chest no. 16…
Chest no. 25…
Chest no. 39…
Chest no. 58…
Chest no. 49…
And yes I would be staying for more 4 days and the white pairs and formals would not be wasted. I was now chest no. 12.
Total 24 candidates were screened in, and we then assembled for a group photo.
screen+in+candidates+ssb+interview

All the screened in candidates were then briefed by the duty GTO about the do’s and don’ts that we have to follow during our stay at the SSB.
DAY 2
And here comes the psych tests, as these tests are conducted early in the morning, we woke up at 4:30 AM.
There was no alarm to wake us up, it was the duty of the one who wakes up first to wake others up. We were to bath in a common bathroom under 6 showers, it seemed as if we all are buffaloes being made ready for the morning milk.
After the showers, we had to wear formals ( formals were compulsory every time, except when we are sleeping..) along with our chest numbers and go to the dining room for having our breakfast. We were served with noodles along with bournvita. A quick headcount took place and we were taken to the testing hall.

PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS
I won’t stress much upon what these tests are, as I know many of you know it quite well with details of time durations.
I just made sure, that I will project my qualities in every given chance. In the TAT, I wrote stories with practical solutions and qualities of the hero, I had already prepared a story for the blank one and thus completed all the stories in time.
In WAT, I completed all the 60 words.
In SRT, I was able to write 39 reactions only, but with proper solutions.
In SD, I wrote all the paragraphs in time.
I made sure, no chance is left untouched. Soon the psych tests were completed and we were asked to go back to our barracks back.
Gyan 4:
  • Be as imaginative as you can, and give your first response always.
  • Dont think much, write what comes in your mind first.
  • Try to give the characters the name of your friends, it will save time.
  • Prepare a story well before for the blank slide, with good qualities.
  • SD is like a leaked question paper, so prepare well before, give balance between your good and bad qualities, giving weightage to good qualities. Above all be truthful, as you will be crosschecked by the interviewing officer related to the psych tests.
  • In SRTs, keep the quality over quantity, its not that how much you do, its all about how you do. Dont just give reactions, give actions too.

The time for our liberty was 2.30 PM to 7.00 PM. Again we had to go in formals even if we were going for “Maal” seeing!!! The duty officer who administered our stay was a strict cum funny man, who soon became an entertainment mode for us due to his funny English.
“ Aye buddy, no one do unky-funky here now, tomorrow your GTO I day now, come in queues, go in queues, no unky-funky.. aye what now..”
His frequent uttering of ‘Unky-funky’ got him a name by us by the same rhyming words.
Soon all 24 candidates had become a good friend, to name a few, Rohit, Sreerag, Aman, Rachin (he made our 5 days heaven by his funny jokes), Clinton, Basil, Lovesh, Shivam, Akshay, Shashank, Yagyavalk and many others.
Many faced their PI on day 2 itself and few were left.
DAY 3
The same routine was followed again. All of us were looking sporty gentlemen in those white shorts and T-shirts. As advised by ‘Unky-funky’ we made ‘queues’ and head count started. It was GTO I day, so adventure and fun were guaranteed, but our fate played with us and it started raining heavily. It was for sure that everyone is going to get a tough time but still the Josh was on its height. We were taken to the GTO ground and asked to sit under a shed were 8 chairs were placed( 24 candidates were divided into 3 groups of 8) I was in the 2nd group from Chest no. 9 to 16. Our GTO turned up, a gentlemen no doubt, he introduced himself to us and asked us general queries about our stay. We then headed towards the 1st task of the 9 tasks of the GTO series, which was Group Discussion.
Group Discussion
In the GD I tried to keep my points clearly, did not dominate, appreciated others, spoke relevantly and encouraged the low speakers to speak and contribute. Both our GDs were good, even the GTO appreciated it.
Gyan 5:
  • Its a common myth that if you initiate you get advantage, yes of course you get, but at least speak relevant to the matter, there is no point speaking rubbish just to initiate the discussion, of course it is taken negatively.
  • Be bold, speak clearly, don’t hesitate, and remember the KISS theory, I mean Keep It Simple Silly.
  • Dont over speak, let others speak, don’t interrupt if someone is already speaking, listen to them and then speak.
  • And above all be cool and calm.

The same instructions follow for the GPE, and you have to be very practical over there, remember you are not a superman.

Gyan 6:
  • In the PGT, be a team member, listen to everyone’s solution and if you are leading then implement the common solution, do not dominate i.e. let others give some ideas too. Remember team goal is very important in the GTO series.
  • In the GOR, the same instructions follow, just be active and at the same time don’t suppress.
  • Be supportive and a team worker and leader in HGT.
  • Speak fluently in the lecturette, make eye contact, don’t elongate your talk unnecessarily, speak relevant points only.
  • In Individual Obstacles I was able to do 8 properly, but then got exhausted. As it had rained, all of us struggled hard to tackle them, its unusual so be energetic and sporty.
  • I followed the same things in FGT too.

After the completion of the GTO tasks, our GTO had a small talk with us, he briefed us about the conference day that was to be held the next day.
We then got fresh as we all had turned muddy in the quenched Coimbatore. As I was left with the interview, I was intimated to get ready.
Dressed in formals, and confident enough I took my seat at the Candidate’s waiting area, I tried to keep calm and cool, had my lunch already done and water to not to dehydrate me at least in the interview (of course that was not going to happen).
I had not prepared for the interview, but I was prepared for the interview.
The bell rang, I stood up, stood up my heart beats, stood up my confidence to take over the interview. I knocked the door, entered the room, a gentlemen was standing in front of me, the person who was going to analyse me for the next 45 to 60 minutes.
IO: ( with a tight handshake) Good morning Rahul, how are you?
Me: ( with a confident smile) Good morning Sir, I am absolutely fine.
IO: Please Sit down.
For the next 45 minutes he asked me questions about my parents, friends, education, my stay at the SSB, the friends I made.
IO: Where do you position yourself in your group?
Me: (after a pause of 3 seconds) At the top Sir ( with a smile).
IO: Okay, and who according to you should be the next?
Me: Chest no. 16 Sir.
I was confident through out the interview, I talked sense, spoke short but crisp. He asked me few technical questions too, some I answered, few I could not. I tried to project my qualities well in front of him, I just wanted to show, what I am, and nothing else. As I could imagine that a few days ago I just used to dream of this day, the interview, the entire SSB interview, hardly there had been any section left in the SSBCRACK website that I had not gone through, and now, I was realising my dream interview here, in front of a senior officer of Indian Navy, who a few minutes ago, had stood up for me, to greet me. Its passion, its zeal, its love, true love, believe me there is nobody in this world who can teach you or coach you to do well at SSB, because if you are taught to do something, its not your dream. And remember, If you are confident, passionate for the armed forces and really enjoy everything about it, then cracking SSB is like walking on a smooth cake.
In the night we were again debriefed about next day’s proceedings of the conference.
“ Aye buddy, make queues and koi unky-funky nai karega, ayei chest no. 7 idhar udhar kya dekhta, buddy girlfriend ko khojta hai kya.. so what now, tomorrow your conference now..” and thus went the speech of our dearest ‘unky-funky’.
That night those 24 pair of eyes slept with dreams inside, some where going to be reality the next day and some not.
DAY 5 ( The D Day)
All of us woke up late at 6 AM and much to the astonishment of all defence workers, finished our routine before 7 AM.
Recommend for Indian Navy from NSB Coimbatore

Dressed up in formals again, lined up for breakfast and then we were seated in the Ante room, our duty CHM came and tried to make the environment light by cracking some jokes.
We were taken to the conference hall, an elevated blue coloured rectangular huge container, from outside and a first class U-table with 12 chairs placed in the same sequence and a single chair placed at the end of the U.
I was made to wait for five minutes approx but it seemed 50 minutes to me, and then the ball rang, my heart started beating abnormally. My legs started moving towards the ‘Big’ gate.
I knocked the door and entered.
Me (to the president of the board): Good morning Sir.
IO: Good morning Rahul, have your seat (smiling).
Me: Thank You sir (with a smile).
IO: So Rahul, how was your stay at the NSB?
Me: It was fine sir, I enjoyed these five days a lot.
IO: How was the food here, any complaints?
Me: No sir, It was absolutely fine.
He asked me few questions that I was unable to answer in the interview and I answered them there.
IO: Any suggestions that you would like to give us.
Me: No sir.
IO: If I insist you?
Me: No sir, everything was really fine.
IO: Rahul, I am insisting you.
Me: I have already said this to the CHM that after every GTO tasks the candidate should be provided with light refreshments so that they could rejoice their energy.
IO: Okay, thank you Rahul, we will try our best to implement it.
So tell me any four qualities that you found in yourself in these five days.
Me:
i) Leadership
ii) Convincing power
iii) Power of expression
iv) Social adaptability
IO: This means you did not know these qualities before coming to the SSB?
Me: No sir, I knew it before too, just SSB gave me a better introspection in my personality.
IO: Okay Rahul, nice to talk to you, all the best (smiling).
Me: Thank you Sir.
After the conference we again assembled in the ante room.
The IOs came and briefed us about the selection procedure, and the same thing but in a different way was said.
“ I your mother ask you to buy fresh tomatoes from the market, but you find that only few fresh tomatoes are available and the rest are rotten, but in an another basket fresh apples are kept, what would you buy? Of course fresh tomatoes . So same is the case with us, we look for the Officer like qualities in you, when we find it, we take you in. “
It was consoling but not appealing, atleast not for me, who had already decided to devote his life for the armed forces, a U turn was not an option for me.
The officers went back, and the ante room, which once used to be filled with laughs and masti of the young gentlemen boys, now was filled with tension everywhere, dreams in eyes.
Then came the time for the results, a technical officer took the podium meanwhile my legs, my hands were near to unconsciousness.
“Gentlemen, here I announce the name of the SSB recommended candidates, the chest no.s does not resemble any seniority, please spell your name as your chest no. is called.”
Chest no. 3…,
Chest no. 5…
Chest no. 16…
My chest no. had already been crossed and my head had gone down. When came in my ears.
Chest no. 12..
“R A H U L space P A R E E K”
I spelled my name in excitement, and I was on cloud 9.. yes I had cleared the renowned and awaited SSB interview in my first attempt. The day which I just used to see in my dreams, I was actually realising that, Yes I had proved myself, YES I HAVE IT IN ME!!!
“If you have will, and you can put in your hard work along with your determination to realise the dream that you have woven in your eyes, the day would not be too far, when
YOU WOULD BE LIVING IT MY FRIEND!!!”

Determination, hard work, patience, Self confidence etc these are not only words which we use in WAT and TAT but these are the actual mantras of success. I think without these things it’s difficult to achieve anything. Anything means everything. So this is my request to all of u to develop these things in you and you’ll definitely be there where ever you want.

So let’s begin with my valuable experience i.e my previous attempts. Some feel shy of telling their attempts because they consider them as a bad experience. The reason behind is they don’t learn from their experience and I m not taunting anybody but I am telling u that pls try to learn from your past experience and introspect yourself. So let’s begin my  roller coaster ride. I started my journey in 2012 with TGC-115 and dere I got screened out  and this is not it. In next 4 attempts the result was same ie in SSC-39,TGC-116, SSC-40, TGC-117. Then comes the day when I got screened in Bhopal in July 2013 in SSC-41 , almost after a year. But I had no regrets about the year in fact I was happy that I got screened in. Now from dere onwards I was shifted to conference out lot and I was out for 5 times continuously from SSC-41, TGC-118, SSC-42, Navy PC(EDU), TGC-119.

Now comes my 11th attempt and this was special because this time it was CDS entry (OTA). The pros of cds entry is that the candidates are less as comparatively to other entries, so chances are more but u need to perform as per their standards.  I reported their in Bhopal on 8th may . Total 60 candidates came there.(Advantage). So they took us to the SSB center. They showed us our lines allotted us rooms and called us at 4 pm for the documentation. So they checked the documents and after that one officer came their and briefed us about the next 5 days, then we were asked to report at 6 next day. I made some friends on first day. So I just shared rooms with them.

Day 1 :- OIR and PPDT

One of the most important day. Here anything can happen. They gave us OIR and it was simple just try to solve some verbal and non verbal questions at home and you will be able to solve it. Then comes PPDT they showed us a hazy picture and in that two persons were there in a jungle . So I made a story on Archeological theme, I narrated well but many people in discussion were sticked  to adventure camp so I moved with them and concluded it with that theme. Then after lunch, results were out and out of 60, 30 were screened in. So they gave us new chest no and mine was 27 lucky 9.

Day 2 :- Psychological test

ssb+interview+candidates+Its not that simple. So practice the TAT , WAT and SRT at home. Don’t write pre conceived stories because they will defiantly catch this. So write the stories around a theme which they show you there . In WAT write some observational sentences and in SRT there is a practice book in SSBCRACK.com so download it and practice it and prepare a SD according to your life don’t copy it from any site or from ur friend’s book.
After this test I was the first person whose interview they had already scheduled. So I was nervous because I had to go to Commandant of Bhopal (Major General). But I calm my mind and went inside the room and answered him confidently and if u don’t know the answer just say sorry don’t give your college guessing fundas. This will make a bad image of yours in IO’s mind.

Day:-3 and 4 GTO

We were 10 candidates in the group. We started our day with GD. Be calm in GD, listen to others and give your valuable knowledge and try not to make fish market . Our topics were “Reason for road accidents and reason for migration” then comes PGT, HGT, FGT in all these try to help others so that your group will complete the task . No words for snake race , do whatever you want . GPE , try to make a practical solution and while making think that can you actually do it or not in real life ???and then discuss it calmly. IO, depends on your stamina and I did 13 …….lecturette I got Judicial system, read newspaper and magazine to collect  information. In Command Task  try to analyze your task and then do it.

Day :- 5 Conference

This time I waited for 3 or 4 minutes outside the room then they called me. I wished them and they asked me about my experience and then they asked me that for instance here you fell short of one mark then how you will convince us. I analyzed this question and  told them my strengths and told them what I have improved during my journey and then they asked about any suggestion . I said no and came out of the room.
Out of 30, 4 got recommended. I cleared my medicals and now waiting for the merit….All the best to all J
ssb About Akash Sharma: Akash with his strong motivation and hardwork cleared the SSB interview and Medicals from Bhopal in his 11th attempt.

Why General Knowledge is Important

0
Wouldn’t you make a fool of yourself if you don’t know a little about a lot of things going around you or in general things that happened? Or wouldn’t you feel awkward if your friends or people around you, are having some healthy discussion and you’re not part of it because you are neither able to contribute your comments nor even able to understand what others speak.

You’ll definitely feel inarticulate because without proper general knowledge your socialization factor becomes a little constrained. If you don’t have a little knowledge about a lot of things you won’t be able to figure out what it is that you want to be, decision making very difficult without proper knowledge and you have to rely on advice of the other people. That is why general knowledge is a very basic need of human life. We need to experience the world at least through books, magazines, discussions or other sources before we tie ourselves to one anchor.

Generally, speaking people with a good knowledge base exhibit greater retention of facts and figures and are regarded more intelligent.

SSB Perception Management, State of Mind And Focus by Col. Kataria

SSB Perception Management, State of Mind And Focus by Col. Kataria

SSB is a unique test; one cannot compare with your previous experiences. That is why candidate remain unsure about it – how to crack, how to face, how to prepare so on. Most of these questions create numerous conflicts in the mind of candidates until they go through the entire process of SSB. Facing SSB is nothing but it’s all about how you manage your perception, state of mind and focus.

  1. What is perception management – Perception means when you look    at an object or stimulus you see two sides of it – positive or negative or another possibility deny it. When you reverse your actual perception means distortion of perception.  That is why most of the candidates commit mistake in their approach in handling SSB process. Remember perceive as shown to you, whether negative or positive and never ever deny it. It is a myth that you always have to think or write positive.
  2. State of mind – SSB is all about expressing your intellectual level whenever you are required to do so or given a chance. Leader always think, apply his mind and lead from front. Go with relax mind so that brain can function at its best. There is nothing in SSB, which you cannot handle. It’s all about applying your self at the right time and place.
  3. Focus – Regular preparation and focused approach would make you   confident. Improve your listening skills, as during SSB you have to listen then act as per instructions whether it is interview, GTO or psych testing.
    GTO Task
As per my experience, how does most of the candidates approach or perceive SSB. They;
  • Treat SSB like university or school examination.
  • Have fear of unknown in spite of having numerous feedbacks.
  • Perceiving stress in the environment, this leads to low-level performance.
  • Candidate displays inconsistent behavior during the course of SSB, which he manifests from highly stressful to over confident state of mind during the course of SSB, both of these will take him nowhere. What matters is balance and consistent performance.
  • Take ideas from non- assessor, rejected or selected candidates or from books available in the market, which create lot of confusion in mind.
Managing your perception, state of mind and focus will help in doing well in SSB. What do you do;-
  • Always clarify your doubts from expert so that your perception is not confused.
  • Always perceive as shown to you and do not distort your perception whether it is TAT, WAT or GTO Tasks.
  • There is nothing in SSB that you cannot do then why have fear of unknown.
  • Learn to express 15 officers like qualities through various tasks.
  • Handle one task at a time. Do not start thinking of next tasks when first one is going on.
  • Each test and task carry equal weightage so keep on performing to achieve positive result.
  • Do not give up even if you have not done well in one technique or task.
  • Concentrate on your personal performance in relation with your group.
How to  approach  – Manage your perception – Go with relax state of mind – focused approach – good listening skills –  You have all qualities in you , express them at right time and right place – Remember your selection is based on demonstrated performance , if you have it in you, learn to demonstrate it. I am sure you will make it.

How To Achieve A Balanced Personality?

As we all are aware of the fact that there is no quickie scheme that will make us a successful person. So how do we go about realizing what is truly important to us? How do we recognize our weaknesses? How do we become balanced? How do we open that magical door that will show us the way to personal growth and success? Well, there are many qualities that shape a successful leader and having a balanced personality is one of them.

A balanced personality is a sum total of the certain desired characteristics, so that an individual life leads to peace, harmony and success. It is an integrated structure, just as a building is more than bricks, cement and wood, similarly personality of an individual is more than basic elements or parts. Thus, any change in one part of the structure definitely influences the other. Since a healthy personality is not only a part of the person’s hereditary endowment but is developed through learning and life experiences, almost everyone can have a balanced personality. A balanced personality is marked by good physical appearance, emotional stability, high intellectual ability, high degree of social adjustment and many more qualities. The characteristics of a well balanced personality serve as guidelines for one’s improvement which in turn leads to the creation of a better and well balanced human being whether it is in terms of physical, mental or social aspects. It makes one good at making decisions, both sympathy & empathy.
