Defence Ministry Has Cleared Deals Worth Over $3Bn To Buy 15 Chinook, 22 Apache Copters
Defence Ministry Has Cleared Deals Worth Over $3Bn To Buy 15 Chinook, 22 Apache Copters : The defence ministry has cleared two crucial deals worth more than $3.1 billion to equip the Indian Air Force with US-built attack and heavy-lift helicopters.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar has sent the proposals to buy 22 AH-64D Apache Longbow attack and 15 CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift copters — both platforms manufactured by US defence giant Boeing — to the finance ministry for clearance, a government official said on Monday.Defence Ministry Has Cleared Deals Worth Over $3Bn To Buy 15 Chinook, 22 Apache Copters

The Apache proposal went to the finance ministry on April 23, while the one to buy Chinooks was sent last week. The proposals will later go to the cabinet committee on security, headed by PM Narendra Modi, for final clearance. The latest price extension granted by Boeing for the choppers is valid till June 30.

The deals are, however, not linked to US defence secretary Ashton Carter’s upcoming visit to India, beginning June 2.

The proposals have clauses to place follow-on orders for 11 more Apaches and four extra Chinooks. Both platforms have seen combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. Boeing had beaten off competition from Russia, which had offered its Mi-28N Night Hunter and Mi-26 heavy-lift copters to the IAF.

Armed with fire-and-forget Hellfire missiles, the Apache attack choppers can track up to 128 targets in a minute and prioritise threats.

These missiles equip the helicopter gunships with heavy anti-armour capabilities. The army is moving a case to buy 39 Apache helicopters. The Chinook’s main roles include transporting troops, artillery and battlefield resupply.

Carter will be arriving in India four months after New Delhi and Washington renewed the 2005 India-US Defence Framework Agreement to deepen cooperation in several security-related areas. The agreement led to some major weapon sales to India, deepened military-to-military engagements, bolstered technical cooperation and strengthened the overall strategic partnership. India and the US will also be working on projects relating to co-development and co-production of military hardware and systems under the defence trade and technology initiative (DTTI).

India and US have identified four key “pathfinder projects” for joint development and production under the DTTI. These include next generation Raven mini-UAVs, roll-on and roll-off kits for C-130J Super Hercules planes and mobile electric hybrid power sources.

The US is currently the biggest supplier of weapons to the Indian military, having won deals worth over $10 billion during the last six years.

Russia’s Ka-52, Mi-28 Attack Helicopters Can Compete With US Apache: The Russian helicopter-manufacturing industry can successfully compete with foreign rivals, including the United States, Andrei Shibitov, Deputy Director of Russian Helicopter Holding, claimed. The modern Russian Mi-28 and Ka-52 attack helicopters are comparable with the US AH-64 Apache helicopter in their onboard electronic systems, Andrei Shibitov, Deputy Director of Russian Helicopter Holding, told RIA Novosti.

“Ten years ago some of our systems fell short by 10-15 years, but now I can say that our latest projects are practically comparable with our foreign competitors and colleagues. The hardware of the Mi-28 and Ka-52 is definitely as good as the Apache systems,” Shibitov said on the sidelines of a conference in Tatarstan.Russia’s Ka-52

He also noted that the Mi-28 and Ka-52 are more than just helicopters; they can be described as “helicopter complexes.”

Established in 2007, Russian Helicopters is one of the world’s leaders in the helicopter-manufacturing industry and the single helicopter designer and producer in Russia. The holding comprises of five helicopter-manufacturing facilities, two design bureaus, repair facilities and a service company. The holding sells helicopters to Russian ministries, airlines and major foreign and domestic companies.

In 2014 Russian Helicopters’ revenues rose by 22.8 percent, to 169.8 billion rubles ($3.3 billion at the current ruble exchange rate). A total of 271 helicopters were delivered.

We must neutralise terrorists through terrorists, says Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar

We must neutralise terrorists through terrorists: Asserting that terrorists have to be neutralised only through terrorists, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said India will take “proactive” steps to prevent a 26/11 type attack hatched from foreign soil.

“There are certain things that I obviously cannot discuss here. But if there is any country, why only Pakistan, planning something against my country, we will definitely take some pro-active steps,” he said at an event in New Delhi.

Speaking candidly, the Minister used the Hindi phrase “kante se kanta nikalna” (removing a thorn with a thorn) and wondered why Indian soldiers should be used to neutralise terrorists. He said the proactive steps could include pressure tactics.

“We have to neutralise terrorists through terrorists only. Why can’t we do it? We should do it. Why does my soldier have to do it?,” he said adding that this issue cannot be discussed beyond this.

He was speaking at ‘Manthan’ conclave organised by news channel Aaj Tak and was replying to a question on what would be government’s reaction if a repeat of Mumbai attacks or a Parliament attack takes place.

He said the best response would be to ensure it does not happen. Meanwhile, he said the army has been given orders to neutralise infiltrators trying to enter India.

“I can only say that anyone trying to infiltrate will be neutralised,” he said. He also aid that a terrorist who comes with a gun cannot be lectured on human rights. We must neutralise terrorists through terrorists, says Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar

However, the Minister added that instructions have been given to take precaution that there is no “collateral damage” and that no Indian soldiers die.

“Take precaution there is no collateral damage. Don’t touch civilians,” he said. Asked what has changed from the previous government’s tenure, the minister said, “Porosity on borders is less; intelligence has improved”.
Parrikar also said he will stand by the army at any cost if they are right.

Germany Lobbies India To Buy Eurofighter

Germany lobbies India to buy Eurofighters

Germany lobbies India to buy Eurofighter: Germany’s defence minister held out the prospect of more talks on a possible sale of Eurofighter jets to India and, on a visit to New Delhi, said Berlin stood ready to back a multi-billion-dollar Indian submarine project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has just marked his first year in office, cut through an impasse over a troubled tender for high-end combat jets by announcing a deal in France last month to buy 36 Rafales from Dassault.

India has since said the original tender, launched by the last government to acquire 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft, is all but dead, but rival jet makers are hoping the $14 billion tender will be reopened. The Eurofighter, made by Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain, was knocked out in the final round of the tender by Rafale. But controversy over the lifetime cost of operating the French plane blocked a final deal.

“I again conveyed to the defence minister the interest of the Eurofighter nations in continuing talks, should the Indian side be interested,” German defence minister Ursula von der Leyen said.

“That was was taken on board positively,” she added, after meeting her counterpart, Manohar Parrikar, on Tuesday evening.

Germany has taken the lead in the sales pitch to India for the Eurofighter, made by Alenia Aermacchi, a subsidiary of Finmeccanica, Airbus Group and BAE Systems .

A spokesman for the Indian defence ministry said the focus now was on finalizing the government-to-government deal for 36 ready-to-fly Rafales.Von der Leyen said Berlin was also willing to support a project initiated by India last autumn to build six submarines at an estimated cost of 530 billion rupees ($8.3 billion).

In a first stage, local shipyards would have to prove their fitness to build the diesel-electric subs, before being invited to bid for the deal, possibly with foreign partners.

“There is an Indian interest in industrial cooperation in building submarines,” von der Leyen said. “Talks are already under way and I made it clear that German industry is supported by the German government.”

Initial talks on submarine cooperation were under way involving ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, a unit of ThyssenKrupp AG , German media reported.

Von der Leyen met Modi on Wednesday and said the two had touched on the issue of defence equipment, but the conversation focused on sharing knowledge on high-technology areas.

Indian Army Forced To Train J&K Soldiers In Other States

Indian Army Forced To Train J&K Soldiers In Other States

Indian Army Forced To Train J&K Soldiers In Other States: Thousands of men in fatigues can be seen swarming into the Jammu Tawi railway station these days. Thesesoldiers are not there to counter any fresh terrorist threats or challenges of infiltration up north, but to board special trains bound for Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan where they will get to practise firing.

With the Mufti Mohammad Sayeedheaded Jammu & Kashmir government dragging its feet on renotifying the lease of firing ranges, the Indian Army is forced to send the soldiers long distances to other states. According to senior officers, this has an adverse impact on India’s preparedness along the borders.
Indian Army Forced To Train J&K Soldiers In Other States
There are ten firing ranges in J& K, but the PDP-BJP government has refused to renotify all the leases that have lapsed in the past one year. As a result, the northern command, which has the largest number of troops in the country, is sending hundreds of units from live borders to faraway states for annual firing practice.

The troops are away from their stations for more than a month as the units are being sent to the ranges of Babina and Mahajan in UP and Rajasthan respectively, by a combination of rail and roads. J&K chief secretary Iqbal Khanday said the delay was procedural. “Each firing range in the state is being looked at separately. The cases are at different stages,” Khanday told ET.

The firing ranges leased to the army are Khurbathang, Tartar, Mahe and Kulum in the Ladakh region, Kalith, Chorkhud, Jhallas Rajouri and Garhi in the Jammu region and Tosamaidan in the Kashmir region. Khurbathang, Kalith and Tosamaidan are the three main ranges for the firing of artillery and high calibre weapons.

For Tosamaidan firing range, Khanday said a committee was formed under his chairmanship but it is yet to decide on the matter. In Ladakh, the army has already specified a different location as the current firing range extended to sensitive wildlife areas.

“We are also holding public hearings in Jammu region to know about the opinion of locals regarding firing ranges,” the chief secretary said. Senior officers said the defence ministry has also taken up the matter with the state government.

How To Prepare For Psychology Round Of SSB For Indian Army SSC Tech and TGC

How To Prepare For Psychology Round Of SSB For Indian Army  SSC Tech and TGC: Psychology is the most important aspect of SSB as it is believed if one is rejected at this juncture no one has the power to get the recommendation. Rest cases might be considered in conference round of SSB. So one should be mentally prepared for this round of SSB. It consists of four rounds at SSB:

  • TAT– Where one is provided with 11 + 1 blank picture altogether where aspirants are expected to write stories in certain format. The things need to be written in certain format and assessors expect hero’s and not superheroes here.
  • WAT– where 60 words are flashed and aspirants are expected to write the sentences on them. Time is limited here so one needs to be fast in thinking and writing the things.
  • SRT– where 60 situations are given and aspirants are expected to write the reaction that will be instantaneously done.
  • SD – where one needs to write what others feel about you.

All the four rounds are equally important and should reflect your true self. If there is some disruption found in psychology it is believed that aspirants is acting smart and hiding something so it’s always suggested that one should be always true in SSB in whatever they speak or write. Though other rounds of SSB are of different nature but in all together they judge your personality and psychology. Aspirants must also be sure that the personality revealed at each and every place should coincide with the original you. This can be best done if you know yourself. IT is said that SSB is the easiest exam as a persona knows him best and no one should fail in it. But still why so many people get rejected in this. This is because:

  • One reveals a confused personality
  • One reveals a copied or modified personality
  • One reveals what he or she is not thinking that they can befool the assessors but let me tell you it’s just a fool proof system so don’t ever try that.

This can only be improved by studying life events and doing deep introspection. I have seen aspirants mail me that they have done introspection and have taken out the weakness which are not the real ones. Feel free to say about your most weak link also as if you don’t say they will catch you. They want to know personal weakness so tell that only. Psychology is something that needs time for improvement if you take right guidance. There is so remedy to improve it in a weeks’ time.   I will cover other parts of psychology in upcoming articles along with tips to deal with other things at SSB. Still If you have any confusion or feel to take individual assessment of personality for olq’s or prepare from your place itself through one to one interaction through my mentoring / counselling program drop me a mail at [email protected] or add me on Fb and drop in a message. Befitting reply along LoC, IB sent Pak running to UN

Befitting reply along LoC, IB sent Pak running to UN: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said India’s response to cross-border firing along the international border and LoC in Jammu & Kashmir was so strong that it sent Pakistan scurrying to the UN seeking intervention.

Speaking to reporters in Kolkata on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Modi government, Singh said, “When there were cross-border firings during the UPA regime, white flags were shown. But, we gave Pakistan such strong reply that they had to appeal to the UN to intervene.”

About alleged display of Pakistan flags in Kashmir recently, Singh said, “We will not allow anyone to shout ‘Pakistan zindabad’ slogans in this country.”

He stressed that Article 370 of the Constitution, that grants special status to Jammu & Kashmir, is on BJP’s agenda.

“However, for the first time BJP has got the chance to be part of a state government in J&K. Let there be development. Whatever we do, we will do it by taking the people of J&K in confidence,” said Singh.Indian army strong on pakistan

About rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits, he said, “We have allocated funds for their rehabilitation. We have already spoken to the J&K chief minister. He told us that land will be provided.”

Commenting on the recent controversy about 1993 Mumbai blast mastermind Dawood Ibrahim where the Centre had said it had no idea where the don was, Singh said, “On Dawood, I will only say we have not shut our eyes on him. However, there international compulsion, too.”

Amid the continuing tussle between the Centre and the AAP-led Delhi government, Singh assured there would be no interference and that everyone should work within the constitutional framework.

Singh’s comments assume significance, especially, after the AAP government moved a resolution in the Assembly against the Modi government’s notification giving “absolute” powers to the Lt governor on posting of senior bureaucrats and restraining the anti-corruption bureau from probing central government employees. Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia said the Centre’s notification violated the Constitution.

Singh said, “Everybody should work within the constitutional provisions. And, I would like to add that Delhi government has been elected by the people and the central government will not create any hurdles in the functioning of Delhi government. We will fully cooperate with them.”

Singh said the Narendra Modi government believes in constructive and cooperative federalism.

At a rally in Kolkata, Singh defended Modi’s foreign trips. “A lot of things are said about Narendra Modi’s foreign visits. I will request my friends in the media to look into the number of foreign visits of other PMs and Modiji, and you will see the difference,” said Singh.

He said when then PM Manmohan Singh visited foreign countries, there was nothing which was either new or worthy of attention. “But during Modiji’s visit to foreign nations, whether its Madison Square Garden in the US or Australia, lakhs of people came out to welcome him,” said Singh.

He advised Congress leaders and workers to feel proud as Indians instead of criticising Modi’s visit. Singh also mocked Rahul Gandhi’s “sabbatical”. “Modiji went to foreign nations for to attract investments and for the country’s sake. He did not go to foreign country to enjoy holidays,” said Singh.
