How to Avoid Sweaty Palms & Feet (Hyperhidrosis)

6
sweaty palm cure ssbcrack

Hi all Defence aspirants. By now most of you would have got a good knowledge on all aspects of the SSB interview. Thanks to SSB Crack J But little do we know about the medical examination that follows the Conference. There are many posts in SSB crack regarding the medical examination procedure and the medical standards that one should satisfy in order to get into the armed forces. So in this article I am going to share my knowledge and experience on hyperhidrosis. In simple language, “Sweaty palms and feet”.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

It is a medical condition in which the body shows excessive sweating, irrespective of the body temperature. It is quite normal for our body to sweat in order to regulate the body temperature. But a person with hyperhidrosis, sweats excessively and unpredictably irrespective of the surrounding environment temperature or humidity levels. Its hard to predict when and how much they would sweat. There is a lot of information on the internet regarding Hyperhidrosis. For some basic info, read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperhidrosis

What causes it ?

Though there are various claims till present day, no one knows the primary cause for it.
Hyperhidrosis: Permanent Rejection Criteria in the Indian Armed Forces
ssbcrack
Fig: An excerpt from the “Medical Standards for Officer Candidates”

How to cure Hyperhidrosis?

Till date there is no concrete cure for this medical condition. Even I was left helpless when I got to know this. But soon I realized that there are lot of ways to mitigate the intensity and frequency of sweating.
For mild hyperhidrosis, the best cure is to apply antiperspirant lotion like klima, drysol etc. in your palms and feet every night. But do consult a dermatologist in prior to avoid any allergy.
For advanced hyperhidrosis, the best cure would be the Iontophoresis technique.

What is Iontophoresis?

It is a treatment used extensively in hospitals and clinics worldwide that passes mild controlled ‘Micro’ electrical currents into the skin in areas where excessive sweating is a problem. The current is transferred to the body in most cases using simple tap water alone.
Treatments are simple to perform at home and unaided. Simply place electrodes in the provided trays, fill with tap water, switch on the iontophoresis machine setup. Then simply place the hands and or feet into the trays and the circuit will close and treatment will begin automatically.
Do it yourself Iontophoresis device:-
Things needed:
  • Plastic trays (30 cm x 20 cm approx.) – 2 Nos.
  • 9 Volt radio battery – 1 No.
  • 9 V Battery Clip Connector – 1 No.
  • Alligator clips – 2 Nos.
  • Aluminium foil sheet (used to pack hot rotis)
  • Connecting wires
  • Baking soda
  • Table salt

How to make and use  the setup?

  1. Cover the Plastic trays with aluminium foil. Connect the battery to the covered trays using wires and alligator clips.
  2. Pour tap water to a certain level (so as to cover your palms) and add some table salt and baking soda (1 teaspoon) to make the water more conductive.
  3. Place your both your hands in the trays in order to close the circuit and let the current flow through your body. You might feel a little tingling sensation but do not worry, as the current intensity from a battery is not high enough to give you a shock.
  4. After doing this for 15 mins, now interchange your hands and keep it in the other tray (left hand in right tray & right hand in left tray) and continue the treatment for another 15 mins.
  5. Take this treatment more often initially i.e. once in a day during the 1st week and then gradually reduce it to just two times in a week, as you may start noticing a reduction in your sweat levels from the second week itself.

My experience at the SSB

6
My experience at the SSB
Hello! My name is Neha and I got recommended for 24 SSB Bangalore for NCC 34 Special Entry (W) Oct 2013 course. My merit ranking was 8th and the vacancies were 4, so I didn’t make it to the academy. However, this article is a result of an old promise I made to myself to share my experience for aspirants who need all the tips and help they can get and who keep searching the internet for the same; like I was doing some months back.

Screening

Officer Intelligence Rating: There’s a lot of data available which you can use for practice. Practice whenever you can, try and attempt all. I read somewhere that a good OIR score helps you later in your career.
Picture Perception and Description Test: The hazy picture was a women-oriented one. I wrote a story which included some community welfare, innovation, helpfulness, initiative etc. During the discussion, I realized that my story isn’t similar to others’ so I didn’t bother too much with pushing my story but just ensured that I make important inputs in the group story. In any case, I went ahead with my plan which was- 1. Speak at least 4 times 2. Make sure everybody listens to you when you speak (for this to happen, you need to make sense) 3. Be very co-operative, don’t fight for bandwidth and do agree to people’s inputs in the story. 4. Girls, please make sure you don’t sound too gentle and feminine; speak with a loud voice and lots of confidence.

Psychology Tests

I am a creative writer by profession so making up stories comes easily to me. 😉 However, psychology is a great technique to do well in. Just practice from the data you get online. Work on your speed, positive thought process, handwriting and focus. Try and finish all the WAT words, SRT situations and stories (I attempted everything). My blank story was about an NGO’s role in disaster- relief (the Heroine was the director of this NGO). Self description is the easiest part because you just have to appreciate yourself. The only and most important thing you have to remember here is- Don’t simply mention qualities which you don’t possess. Because when you attend your interview, the IO will ask you the same question in a different manner. If the qualities you have mentioned in the test don’t match the qualities you tell your IO, it’s a problem. Be honest and think of qualities through some self- introspection, 4-5 good qualities are enough; just stick by them. If the psychologist asks you to jot down negative qualities, write one or two. Write qualities which can be worked upon and changed easily.

GTO

For+SSBCrack2Group Discussion: It’s your first chance to make an impression on the officer. Please utilize it well. Remember these things: 1. Speak with confidence and in regular intervals. 2. Introduce new points and dimensions to the discussion. 3. Show faith in your country, system, governance when you are speaking on international topics. 4. Be a good listener, positive, cooperative, cheerful and make sense.

Group Planning Exercise: Time to show your brains! Read it properly with a lot of focus, prioritize well and take active part in the discussion which follows.  I would recommend some practicing for this. (I am blaming my goof-up in GPE for my merit ranking; I forgot to write a solution for one of the tasks)

Progressive Group Task: Be in the thick of things! Be the one to either say the ideas out loud or the one who directly acts on the idea. Be active, do not stand and sulk because ‘you are not getting a chance’. Grab your chance; this is one task I have noticed where some dominance is allowed. However, don’t be rude outright. Dominating the task while being co-operative is an art (which I and some of you don’t possess, so shy people like us just have to give our best shot and do extra well in the half-group task)

Half Group Task: I am told that this task and tasks after this are all from the confirmatory series, the officer must have already made a preliminary evaluation about you. In any case, it’s the same as PGT, give ideas, or act on your own ideas. Be cooperative; utilize this task optimally if you feel you weren’t very active in PGT. I did well in the HGT than in PGT, gave major ideas.

Group Obstacle Race: Have fun here! Be a team guy, help others, smile, observe rules, motivate.

Lecturette: My topic was communal divides in politics (or something of that sort). I spoke for 2 and half minutes. Just read in advance on varied topics for this task. Choose a moderately difficult or difficult topic. Try and speak for the whole 3 minutes.

Individual Obstacles: What matters is courage, resilience and determination. Show that and you are through this task.

Final Group Task: This one was super-easy for our group. It got over in 2 minutes. If you are not the one putting the plank, at least be the one to help others cross, or the one to ensure all the loads have been crossed over. Just participate somehow.

Interview

My interview happened before the GTO tests. Just one thing got me through this interview- Honesty. The IO asked me questions based on my PIQ and on the supporting statements that I was making. I think the interview lasted for 45-50 minutes. I will list down a few of the questions I was asked- Why I want to quit my current job and join the army. Lots of questions about my current job. Rapid-fire regarding my education. Who I am close to in my family. Since I said I am close to my grandmother, do I know what medicines she takes. Whether I drink. What’s the biggest mistake of my life. What’s the most courageous thing I have done. He asked me two secrets which I have told my best friend. Whether I have attended coaching for SSB etc. I was honest throughout and it seemed like the IO sensed it. For you aspirants, the only interview related advice I would give is- Nothing from your past is unmentionable as long as you have a logical explanation for it. Nobody has a perfect life so don’t try to hide yours. Just show the IO your sincerity and determination in joining by not lying in any manner, being confident and logical reasoning. It’s easier that way. He asked me questions about current affairs; I personally love reading news so it helped me a lot. That’s about it.

Conference

My IO asked me to tell him good eat-out places in Bangalore (since I live in Bangalore). He asked me whether I was satisfied with my performance. He asked me whether I had any suggestions.
About myself
I have attempted the AFSB interview for flying branch twice before this. I was conferenced out in the first attempt and screened out in the second. My greatest learning out of all these three attempts is- If you somehow know that you have it in you, and if it is true, you will get recommended someday. You just need to maintain that level of confidence in yourself throughout. The officers sense that confidence more than anything. The lack of confidence messed up my 2 earlier attempts and its presence brought me so much closer to my dream this time. I personally also believe in being knowledgeable, well-read, being a little intelligent and honestly respecting the Indian Armed Forces and the way this institution functions. In any case, just keep working hard and even if you never make it, know that you died trying. 😉

PS: Any questions? Shoot in the comments section below.

Preparing for AFSB Interview 2021

3

AFSB is nothing but SSB for the Airforce. AFSB stands for Air Force Selection Board and has four selection centers, 1 AFSB Dehradun, 2 AFSB Mysore, 3 AFSB Gandhinagar, 4AFSB Varanasi and 5 AFSB Kanchrapara. In order to get commissioned as an Airforce Officer, you have to give your SSB at one of these centers. Since AFCAT 2 is over and many of you would be sure of getting above the cutoff marks keeping in mind the previous cutoff percentage. So why not start preparing for the AFSB from now only, since it is a time-consuming job. To begin with, let’s see what all you need to prepare.

SSB Interview Preparation Material [ 100% Recommended]

Communication Skills

This is a very important part of AFSB. You need to have good communication skills in order to speak in a large group in discussions, in the personal Interview, and also in order to interact with your group mates. Since SSB requires a huge amount of social adaptability hence you must be good enough at interacting with others and communicating your ideas to them. You must start practicing speaking in English. Psychological aspects and your speed of response: You need to be really fast in your thinking process in order to do the best in TAT, WAT and SRT. So you need to start building that habit from now onwards. Take sample tests from whichever source you can say for example SSBCrack has an ample number of Sample practice series for TAT, WAT, and SRT.

oir test and ppdt

Physical Fitness

You must start practicing running, jogging, and mild cardio exercises in order to increase stamina and physical endurance. This will not only improve your physical appearance but will make you look fit. Also, this will help you in enduring the long sessions of tasks done in the GTO series at a go. It also helps you to maintain a good body posture which is very important in AFSB. The way you sit, the way you walk everything counts hence be straight while walking and sitting and do not slouch.

General Awareness

You need to definitely have a good general awareness of the issues of national and international importance. Especially the issues related to Pakistan, Middle East, West Asia, and China. You must be aware of all the things that led to the problems and the whole history of the problems which are currently occurring in the world. You must also have strong views about certain problems and views can be made only if your knowledge about that particular problem in depth.

spot_img

You and Your Family

You must be aware of the work of your family members and their good and bad qualities same applies to your friends. You must have details of the job your parents or siblings are in. You need to know about yourself in-depth, your likes, dislikes, good and bad qualities, the reason for joining the Air force. If you have a certain hobby or like to play a game you must be aware of it fully. If you have played something on some good level then you are expected to know about the rules in detail and about major tournaments and players of that sport. You should be aware of your percentage in 10th, 12th, UG, and PG. You must also be having good knowledge about your subject studied in Graduation, B.Tech, etc.

Airforce Awareness

You need to know some basic things about Airforce like its commands, ranks, aircraft, and missiles. If any of your family members is in Airforce then you are expected to know in much greater detail. Don’t forget to read about recent Defense deals and defense upgrades. These are a few things you need to start preparing for improving your chances at the AFSB. Remember practice makes everybody perfect hence keep practicing will full dedication.

Improving Communication Skills

Improving Communication Skills

SSB involves a lot of communication. You need to communicate your ideas, thoughts. You need to interact with other candidates, make friends with them and emerge as a leader in your group. For doing any of these things you need to have good communication skills. Now communication skills are not something which can be built in a day or two. You need to practice it continuously and systematically for a long period of time. Here are a few tips on how to develop communication skill for the SSB.

Voice and its tone

Your voice is what makes you different from the crowd. When 10 people are speaking simultaneously then there is only one person who is listened to in the end, it’s like survival of the bestest. In order to be a good speaker/orator you first need to identify that at what level your voice sounds the best. Of course while interacting with friends and the IO you must have a lower tone in comparison to that which you’ll have in the GD. So identify that tone for yourself, and speak like that only. If you have a shrill voice remember not to raise it much otherwise it’ll sound not that good.

Improving Communication Skills

Way and Manner

When you speak then you are either having a strong point to put or just making your presence felt. This marks the difference between successful and unsuccessful candidates. In order to mark your presence you must have a strong point to put in the GD’s or anywhere. So you need to organize what you speak, to do this you must have a good knowledge about the general awareness type of issues and things. Also while putting your point you must be capable enough to put the important thing in beginning and less important one’s in the end.

Flow and command over language

You can attain a good flow only if you practice. Well command over language is the same thing the more you speak the more fluent you get. Fluency is utmost important while communicating. If you are fluent then your audience will have a certain level of interest. Especially in lecturette, interview and GD. Thus you need to practice a lot of speaking, stand in front of the mirror and practice or catch a family member. Also you must be good and fluent in English if you have studied from an English medium school. Many of you say that Officers communicate in Hindi with men and all these things but let’s admit it being fluent in English gives you a certain level of advantage you can’t deny that. So instead of applying your brain and arguing so as to why English is considered more important and not Hindi, it’s better to practice English and be fluent in it. You are not going there to debate and protect Hindi, Hindi is our mother tongue and we all respect it but it is said “When in Rome do what Romans do”. Your aim is to get recommended isn’t it?

Gestures and Eye Contact

These are two most important parts of effective communication. When you are speaking something its power is enhanced if you are doing some hand gestures with it. Maintaining an eye contact with the listeners makes them interested.

Body Language

You must maintain a respectful body language while speaking. Getting alarmed and rising up from your chair while GD is not a sign of a good body language.

Be a good listener

You must be good listener in order to be good speaker. This is last but one of the most important points of effective communication. Letting others speak makes you appear more adaptable and respectful towards others. It gives an impression that you care enough to listen to them and are ready to accept their views which makes you more adaptable.

More Myth’s Regarding SSB

More Myth’s Regarding SSB

Aspirants you would have heard about various myths and rumors related to SSB’s. Here are some of them and as per best of my knowledge the truth behind them also.

Myth 1- Regarding ‘Rejection Boards’: You have to go a place called a Selection board where your SSB testing takes place. It is a wide belief that some of those boards are not the selection boards but rejection board. It is said that those boards reject people more instead of selecting them. Some examples are Allahabad Board for Army and 4AFSB for Varanasi. This is entire crap! There is no such thing like rejection board. In defense they are searching for qualities and thus the best fit and not the best candidate. You might be excellent in other things but if you don’t fit in their criteria they won’t take you. This applies to all boards. It is sheer rumor that they are selecting more and they are selecting less. The officers who conduct the SSB’s are trained in the same way and they are transferred on a regular basis. They consist of the board and hence the procedure is same for everywhere. The number of selections depends entirely on the batch/lot which has come for the testing.
Myth 2-Repeaters have fewer chances of selection: Again a myth. Repeaters have been through the process once and hence they have an advantage instead of disadvantage. See once you have been rejected for something then it means that you lack some qualities which are demanded there, and it is really difficult to cultivate qualities. This applies to repeaters as well, once they are rejected that means that something is lacking and very few have the ability to identify it and improve. I am sure a real defense aspirant has the quality to fight hence keep fighting till you get in. So remove this myth.
Myth 3- More Fresher candidates are selected in comparison to repeaters: Well obviously! It is simple mathematics. There are a lesser number of repeaters who come for SSB in comparison to fresher hence fresher are selected more. See suppose total 100 people get screened in out of them 20 are repeater and 80 are fresher. Suppose 8 fresher get recommended and 2 repeaters get recommended then the percentage remains the same. 8 is 10% of 80 and 2 is 10% of 20. Hence you get the simple math? So don’t get disheartened and put in more effort.
Myth 4- People of a ‘certain’ Background have more chances of selection: They are looking for Officer like qualities of which background or family background or English medium school is not a part. Of course belonging to a good family makes you a good person and everybody has a good family. Family creates an impact on your personality it is that impact which makes you fit or unfit for selection. Being from a village background or from Hindi medium doesn’t creates a difference if you have OLQ’s you’ll make it if you don’t then you won’t. You might be fit for being the president of India like our Missile Man APJ Abdul Kalam who is a magnificent personality but was rejected by SSB. So if you have IT in you you’ll make it irrespective of the background you hail from.
So these were some major myths regarding SSB which do nothing but demoralize you. So ignore these things and concentrate on your preparations.
