Indian Navy Exercises With Royal Navy Carrier Strike Group

Indian Navy participated in a two-day bilateral Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Royal Navy Carrier Strike Group (CSG)-21 led by HMS Queen Elizabeth in the Bay of Bengal from 21 to 22 Jul 21. The bilateral Maritime Exercise was designed to hone the ability of the two navies to operate together in the maritime domain.

The maiden exercise between Indian Navy and the Royal Navy’s latest Aircraft Carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth included participation of CSG-21 comprising Type 23 Frigates and an Astute-class submarine in addition to the other surface combatants. Indian Navy was represented by IN Ships SatpuraRanvirJyoti,Kavaratti, Kulish and a submarine. Anti-Submarine Warfare capable Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft P8I also participated in the exercise.

With the presence of the CSG-21 in the Indian Ocean, the ongoing exercise has afforded excellent opportunity to engage over the entire spectrum of maritime operations including ASW, Anti-Air and Anti-Surface warfare. The exercise also witnessed the maiden participation of the F 35 B Lightning which operate from the deck of HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Indian Navy Petty Officer (PT) Tajinderpal Singh Toor broke the national and Asian record when he registered a throw of 21.49m with the iron ball in June, 2021 to book his place in the Tokyo Olympics 2021. Toor is part of the 26-member athletics contingent for India at the Tokyo Olympics. Toor initially started with cricket in his school days, but eventually shifted to shotput. He hit the sporting headlines around the country as he broke records in 2017 with his best personal throw of 20.40m in the National Athletics Championships in Patiala. However, his personal best was not good enough to steer him to his first World Championships. He won his first major title with the silver medal in the Asian Athletics Championship in 2017, falling short of the gold by 0.03m with a throw of 19.77m. After a disappointing 2018 Commonwealth games, Toor punched above his weight to emerge as the Asian Games Champion in 2018, breaking the games and national record with a 20.75m throw. He repeated his Asian glory in the Asian Championships in 2019 by winning yet another Gold medal.

Indian Navy Petty Officer POCOM (Tel) Madari Pillyalil Jabir became the first Indian athletes in 33 years to seal a berth in the 400m Hurdles event in the Olympics after PT Usha’s debacle in the same event back in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Jabir was ranked 32nd in the World Rankings, and sealed qualification on the ranking quota where the top 40 in the world would take the prestigious flight to Tokyo Olympics. Jabir’s first major title win was the Bronze Medal finish in the 400m Hurdles event at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championship with a clock speed of 50.22 seconds. He bettered his numbers to 49.13 seconds to win his second Bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2019 as well.

Muhammad Anas Yahiya (Men’s 4x400m Relay)​

Seaman RP (U/T) Muhammad Anas Yahiya will be part of the Indian quartet in the 4x400m Men’s Relay event at the Tokyo Olympics. Yahiya is teamed up with Amoj Jacob, Arokia Rajiv, Noah Nirmal Tom and Naganathan Pandi for the 4x400m Men’s Relay. The Indian sprinters qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after a splendid performance in the Inter-State Athletic Championships in Patiala and sealed their quota on the basis of world rankings.​Yahiya has previously won gold and silver medals in the 4x400m Relay event at the Asian Championships in 2017 and 2019 respectively. He was part of the Silver medal finish in the 4x400m event in the 2018 Asian Games as well.

(a) Due to COVID-19 pandemic, an exception is being made in the public interest wherein no INET (O) entrance examination for the Jan – 22 course is being held for shortlisting candidate for SSB. The final merit list for induction will be prepared based only on SSB marks.

(b) These vacancies are tentative and may be changed depending on availability of training slots.

(c) NCC Candidates. NCC ‘C’ certificate holders will be given relaxation in cut off marks towards shortlisting for SSB.

Who Can Apply: Candidates who have graduated or in the final year with minimum 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA from a university incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities/Autonomous Universities

NDA 1 2021 SSB Interview Date Details:

  • SSB interview of NDA – 147 and NA – 109. Candidates of NDA-147 and NA-109 Course are not required to carry their UPSC admit card/application at the time of SSB interview. They are required to carry identity proof with requisite documents mentioned in the call-up instructions of the SSB center. Their credentials will be checked against details received from UPSC.
  • Registration NDA-147 & NA-109. The candidature of all the candidates whose Roll Nos. are shown in the list is provisional. In accordance with the conditions of their admission to the examination, “candidates are requested to register themselves online on the Indian Army Recruiting website joinindianarmy.nic.in within two weeks of announcement of written result. The successful candidates would then be allotted Selection Centres and dates of SSB interview which shall be communicated on registered e-mail ID. Any candidate who has already registered earlier on the site will not be required to do so. In case of any query/Login problem, e-mail be forwarded to dir-recruiting6- [email protected].”
  • SSB Date Selection (All Entries): There are no absentee batches for any entry. Candidates are advised to select their dates with due diligence.

DRDO Successfully Flight Tests Surface-To-Air Missile Akash-NG

Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested the New Generation Akash Missile (Akash-NG), a surface-to-air Missile from Integrated Test Range (ITR) off the coast of Odisha on July 21, 2021. The flight trial was conducted at around 12:45 PM from a land-based platform with all weapon system elements such as Multifunction Radar, Command, Control & Communication System and launcher participating in deployment configuration.

The missile system has been developed by Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories. The launch was witnessed by the representatives of Indian Air Force. In order to capture flight data, ITR deployed a number of Range stations like, Electro Optical Tracking System, Radar and Telemetry. The flawless performance of the entire weapon system has been confirmed by complete flight data captured by these systems. During the test, the missile demonstrated high manoeuvrability required for neutralising fast and agile aerial threats.

Once deployed, the Akash-NG weapon system will prove to be a force multiplier for the air defence capability of the Indian Air Force. Production agencies Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) also participated in the trials. 

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, BDL, BEL, Indian Air Force and the Industry for the successful test. Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO applauded the efforts of the team and said the missile will strengthen the Indian Air Force.

DRDO Successfully Flight-Tests Indigenously Developed MPATGM For Minimum Range

In a major boost towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat and strengthening of Indian Army, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested indigenously developed low weight, fire and forget Man-Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM) on July 21, 2021.

The missile was launched from a man-portable launcher integrated with a thermal site and the target was mimicking a tank. The missile hit the target in direct attack mode and destroyed it with precision. The test has validated the minimum range successfully. All the mission objectives were met. The missile has already been successfully flight-tested for the maximum range.

The missile is incorporated with state-of-the-art Miniaturized Infrared Imaging Seeker along with advanced avionics. The test brings the development of indigenous third-generation man-portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile close to completion. 

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and the Industry for the successful test. Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team for the successful test.

Jammu And Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Passing Out Parade

The Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre showcased its latest batch of 605 passing out young soldiers from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. According to a press release the Recruit Course Serial number 125, on having completed one year of strenuous training were attested on July 19 at a glittering parade at the Bana Singh Parade Ground of JAK LI RC.

The attestation parade, depicting the graduation of a recruit and his transformation into a Young Soldier, was reviewed by Brig Sumesh Seth, Commandant JAK LI Regimental Centre.

The dauntless young soldiers of the Regiment hailing from all regions and religions of the state of J&K, marching in precise unison, with a singular aim of devoting their lives in service of their nation, singing their regimental song ‘Balidanam Veer Lakshanam’, inspired one and all as their voice echoed in the Kashmir Valley. Their salute to the Tri-Colour with National Anthem playing inspired patriotic fervour amongst all present during the parade, further added the press release.

The press release further stated that the commandant congratulated the young soldiers for their immaculate parade and impressed upon selfless service towards the nation.

He praised their contribution towards encouraging more and more youth from J&K to come forward to join the Security Forces and also highlighted the vital role played by their parents in motivating their wards to join this noble profession.

The young soldiers who excelled themselves in varied facets of training were also felicitated by the Reviewing Officer. Recruit Arshdeep Kumar was awarded the Sher-e-Kashmir Sword of Honour & Triveni Singh Medal for being adjudged ‘Overall Best Recruit’ and Recruit Pankaj Singh was awarded the Chewang Rinchen Medal for being ‘Best in Firing’.

1.) What is your family background?

I come from a civilian background. My father’s name is Mr. Manish  Saxena. He runs coaching to prepare students to get into institutions like RIMC, RMS, and Sainik Schools. My mother’s name is Dr.Mrs. Anupam Saxena. She is an associate professor in NIFT, Bhopal. I have an elder sister. Her name is Ms. Damini Saxena. She has recently completed her M.Sc from NIT, Surat.

2.) Tell us about your educational background?

Till my class 6th, I had been studying at St Joseph Co-ed School, Bhopal. Then I entered RIMC, Dehradun, and completed my class 12 from there.

3.) What motivated you to join the RIMC and NDA?

I was motivated to join RIMC and further NDA by many factors. First was that I have always lived near a cantt, so I saw the everyday life of the forces. I also got motivated by many interactions with officers.

4.) How did you prepare for the NDA exam and Interview?

I prepared for the written exam using nda na mathematics and pathfinder. I also used crown gk and social books of school level. For SSB, I prepared for tat, wat etc from YouTube and some play store apps. Rest I only read daily topics.

5.) You have scored 697 marks in NDA written exam, which is a record in itself, how do you feel about it?

I feel very good about the feat I have achieved and am very happy that all my efforts, my family’s efforts, and RIMC’s efforts have paid.

6.) Which services (army, navy, and airforce) you are interested in and why?

I am interested in joining the navy as the navy has the largest scope for the growth of an engineering aspirant.

7.) Your message for the future defence Aspirants?

I would only tell them to give their best efforts and practice the hardest so as to reach their goal.
